Jack - if you're out there, it'd be great if you could Skwosh these rumours.

Weideman showed in his first game against the Hawks that he'll be a player.  Whether he "makes it" or not isn't in question.  Footy brain and courage in the air.

He's 3-4 years away from his best footy, but he'll develop quicker at AFL level.

I hope he plays at least 15 games this year.  He's the future and games are an investment.  And he's not so far away that he's going to be a liability.

Pretty disappointing if it's true.  If he doesn't play again next week, and there is no explanation, then something is up.  Otherwise it may have been down to a slight injury he got in the intra club.

Not saying you're wrong, just that I'll reserve any sort of judgement until we know more.  I'd like to hope Jack isn't in the doghouse after the strides he has made over the last 12 months.

Did you see him play the intra club? It was Watts of three years ago. Dropping easy uncontested marks. Totally unfit in the tackling drill against AVB. No physicality. I think he has had plenty of 'distractions' over the preseason.

Not it saying I am right, but there is something amiss

No, I didn't see him play, but it's disappointing to here he didn't have much of an impact.

I hope for our sake you're wrong, but there is certainly something amiss.

And Weideman and AVB.  Can't see Weideman playing on that form and still think he has a lot of development to go.  He just wasn't in the game other than one contested mark and two Joe the goose goals.

Harmes was a disappointment and I don't know what ANB brings.

Spencer has really opened up some options for us.  It will be interesting to see what happens.

Am I right in thinking Watts was injured in the intra club last week.  I seem to recall an incident where he appeared to hurt himself but then he stayed on so I ignored it.

I note the usual debate over Tom McDonald.  I don't understand it but perhaps I'm missing something. I think he's great but like all players makes the odd mistake.

And what of Frost?  Was he injured or just not picked?  I thought he was very good in the intra club match.

Agree on Weeds, he does some things really well but will most likely be playing 2s for the year, unless we are out of finals contention.

He leads at the ball so well and takes it at such a nice high point. Works back into fwd space really well. Just going to take him a little bit to build up the tank, body strength needed.

Well, this is good.

Time was when we would have played him anyway because he's a Number One Draft Pick, and who could replace him in any event? When your best 22 is more like a best 6, you can't be too choosy.

Now, every player has to earn his keep, all the time. Such as: playing Spencil keeps Gawn on his toes.

This is what a good club does.

Go Demons!

Totally agree about Spencer and Gawn. We look a lot better and balanced side with Spencer there. It is interesting that with the commentators waking up about Demon potential they can now see what a menace Max will be as a resting forward. Bring it on I say - and Spencil is a very under-rated ruckman which a number of  sides will come to learn in this current season.

i think it will allow Hogan to move up the field as Gawn moves forward. i liked watching this rotation between Spencer Gawn and Hogan as i reckon it will break some of that double tagging that Hogan cops most of the time. its got the potential to really stretch the oppositions defence with Gawn moving forward at times.

Really great credit to the new coach and panel. Top start to knock off the reigning Premiers, and the innovations done to do it. Spencer is a real cat out the bag now.

Thing is, they have got to figure out how to tackle this Viking with the hair, good luck. He's got the Rooke look!

Goodwin made it clear pre-match when he said, "we want to get games into our best 24".

Weideman is ahead of Pedersen in the pecking order.

He'll be playing more on the G than at Casey.

I agree but it's also a dangerous sign for Trengove, who must be considered behind JKH and ANB plus a few others who sat the game out.

Saw him today at Luna Park, he had a brace for his thumb that he was using intermittently pulling it in and out of his pocket.

Dont know if it's the reason why he's wasn't selected but may have something to do with it.

When questioned about personnel in the presser Goodwin mentioned Jetta, Tyson, Hibberd and Kent needed to be "squeezed back in".  Interesting....or not.

I choose to believe this is why he didn't play yesterday.

Despite some of the posts here I thought both Garlett and Brayshaw looked great. Brayshaw was in everything and his positioning and running were fantastic. Everyone was blowing out the cobwebs as you would expect in the first preseason game. If people are going to come down on occasional skill errors in the preseason they are missing the point.

Chunk off the half back was a revelation. As was Salem in the midfield. I am really excited by the game plan and how it might look by mid season.

Watched it this afternoon.Impressed.

The best side would include Jetta, Watts, Kent, Hibberd and surely Frost.

The Shakey Knees players today were Harmes, Vandenberg, JFK and Melksham.

The musts were Smith and Spencer Street.

Both outstanding.

AN Bullen had moments but he is the type of player who at this level is always over-run. The go-getters get there first.

This will be an interesting year if we have a good run with injuries.

If there are injuries - there always are- there is dry powder waiting to take aim.

Oscar Mc was good as well. Having both Frost and the Oscar will be a luxury we can afford.

Glory be to Salem and Olivier, a nightingale will sing like you...

And Viney's pugnacious class.

I am not sure what to make of the Wattsit drama.

Is it false news?

He's the same as O Mac last year. Not physciallly ready and perhaps not the best option, but the clear long term prospect they want to pump games into to speed up develop. I expect similar development this year from him. He might look like he's not up to it or not ready at stages, but will get better as the year wears on and show he'll be a good player long term. The talent and attitude are there, just need to body to catch up and be ready.

I thought Watts had two injuries? A hand injury and a niggling hamstring that he's been getting worried on a bit at training recently. Family Day today confirmed the hand injury as his hand/finger was in a brace.

Nah, a reliable source said that he missed out because he's been partying too hard and it's a punishment, also because Goody didn't mention him at the end of game presser it probably suggests he's no longer in our best 22 and definitely going to have a horrible year.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
