On the AFL site's article Mahoney says something about jesse commiting with an asterix. Whats that about?

"It is one of the earlier questions that a potential player asks is, 'What does your list look like in the next few years?'" Mahoney said.

"We've been able to put Jesse Hogan's name there – maybe with an asterisk – but now we can put it there and put it alongside Jack Viney, Clayton Oliver, Angus Brayshaw, Dom Tyson, Tom McDonald, Christian Petracca

He jut meant that prior to today when telling potential players who was on our list, he listed Hogan but had to indicate it was possible he wouldn't be, ie. the fine print

Asterisk was because he was only signed on for 1 more year, and there was speculation he was looking to leave.

Not a problem now.

Right now the next important move is to get him a personal kicking coach / mentor and get rid of that stttutttterrring run up.

Take a holiday then practise your kicking so you become deadly in front of goal...

If the Bulldog's had their handball club, we should start a goal kicking club.

Can be lead by Jack Watts, with Christian Salem as VC.  If all of our players could kick for goal like those two boys, then our conversion will smell like pure roses.

I agree, goalkicking seems to be an afterthought these day, it makes no sense, when scoring is the ultimate purpose of the game!

Compulsory: every player takes 100 shots at goal before and after training, some sort of internal penalty if they miss too many of those, it's a skill that doesn't get nearly enough attention in my opinion.

Image result for asterix

Asterix would be sensational as a crumbing forward or running off half back

"Goes hard all day"

Their are few things in life that you can guarantee but this one I can.

They would not be walking into a bar more is the pity.

1) Here is Jesse's press conference in Perth today:

Don't think there are any doubts about wanting to be in Melbourne the city and Melbourne the club!

2) And here is a gif from the club website announcing his contract extension via twitter this morning:

I really liked his honesty in that interview.  Happily admitted that, at one stage, he was 50/50 about where he wanted to play his footy which is totally understandable.  He came over to Melbourne at 17 and I'm sure the lure to be home with family and friends would be strong.  However, it seems he has a great relationship with Goody and McCartney and we've created a great environment to play football in.  In the end it seems that the club has put all the right things in place and that made his decision much, much easier.

Well done to the club and it's bloody super to have Jesse on board for at least another 3 years!

You have an internal comp. The goal kicking ladder. Every week, every player takes X shots on goal. Highest score wins. Lowest score suffers a penalty, to be decided by rest of team. Shout the others a meal, or some such.

You can do it in groups too. Groups of 4. Highest/lowest within the group, same deal. Groups can challenge other groups to see which is king of the mountain. Winners get a prize, losers a penalty.

Put something on the line, that means something to the players, but also helps with the cameraderie.

Footy clubs should ask pro golfers for ideas on how to practise goal kicking. Eg you take 10 shots from various set angles/distances. You can't leave training until you have dobbed all 10 in a row. If you miss one, you start again.

It's pretty funny that people think footy clubs don't already do stuff like this.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
