No wires crossed from me. It's Roos' call whether we delist Grimes but its not his call that Grimes retires. As for Roos being adamant the Grime will retire, that is carp

I think maybe the Roos part was about him retiring, not Grimes. Could be wrong. That's where the wires crossed I believe.

There was article on mfc website last year where Roos said everyone played 'individual' football when he arrived and he noted Grimes and Jones. They were both interested in individual stats implying not playing teamwork on the field

Jones responded in Roos 1st year and was made sole captain.  One can only assume that Grimes didn't respond, lost the captaincy and asked to work out his issues in the reserves.  Jones recently acknowledged his 'individual' performance (pre Roos) as that is all he could control when there was so much going on off field. Worked very hard at being a good team player and leader,

I can understand Jack feeling badly done by in losing the captaincy and feeling put out about playing reserves.  He is a proud man with whom the 'demotions' would not sit well.  Perhaps it was his own ego feeling bruised.

To blame his non-selection on Roos' ego is just so far fetched to be downright silly.  I think we can all see the reasons Jack (and other pre Roos) players have missed senior selection. It will be interesting to see if he plays 'individual' football or plays the 'way the coaches want', in the next few games or if he goes back to old ways.  Will also be interested to see how he plays the 'team defence' game style...his first time in the seniors since we've played this way.

Hope DL give him a few weeks before criticising as he will find the tempo faster than from Casey and if he plays wing or forward will need time to slot in with other players and style of play.

For Jack it won't be about possessions/tackles or other individual stats - it will be all about his contribution to team defence, team play and unselfish football.

His efficiency was always quite high but I suspect that was mostly from hitting up alot of boundary targets/low percentage outcomes . Now he needs to hit up the short stuff more often through the middle and quickly. If he can do this consistently he probably keeps his spot

No one has claimed that Roos is a school yard kid picking sides. At best it's putting words into other's mouths, at worst it's just plain made up. One poster told of a conversation he had with a close relative of Grimes. Make of it what you will, and some are making up what it was not, but conversation relayed with a viable source declared is valid.

He was good, but he's not quite on the right page with the game plan, still playing Neelds down the line on quite a few occasions when we should have maintained possession.

Can't fault his endeavour so hopefully he can sort it out.

Great return game. Couple of dodgy kicks, but he worked hard and his tackling and ball use overall was very strong.

If you aren't bias, his game is as good as any game we got from Bugg this year.

I'm thrilled for him!

32 disposals, 9 marks, 8 tackles! operating at 90% disposal efficiency.

Great game by Jack. If you think otherwise I highly advise you to tune out from any future AFL games.

Good to see him back and play well. Wasn't a perfect game but he won a lot of ball and worked hard when we didn't have possession too. Will be good to see him reach 100 games next week. He deserves it!

Jack Grimes is the player who keeps on giving. Rewards the footy department and his team-mates by playing well. Rewards VFL watching Melbourne supporters by carrying his VFL form into AFL level. Rewards the haters by giving them someone to deride.

Good Guy Grimes.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
