I think that we need to have bigger bodies/experience against the hawks. Trenners in, Dunn in, Grimes In

Except only Dunn has played this year and he was less than impressive. All three would struggle to pick up the pace of senior footy next week, especially against the speed of the Hawks. Sitting ducks I would think. I'd include one or at most two (would put Dawes into that mix) and include Oliver and maybe AVB if fit enough.

Unfortunately we get exposed for having too many borderline passengers on our list (Newton, JKH, Garland, MJones, Terlich, depending upon your pov) and a bunch of raw guys who may or may not make it but it's too soon to tell (OMac, ANB, AVB, Kent, Frost, Harmes, Hulett). We badly miss a sizeable band of 24-27yo senior quality players that top 8 teams generally have. We have guys like Pedo, Dawes, Lumumba in that age bracket that offer less than what we need. Who are the senior leaders that have led by example week in week out? IMO only NJones, Vince and Jetta.

Side track from thread topic I know, but despite not having a first round pick, I'm looking forward to seeing who we recruit at season's end.

What would you like us to explain? I assume you meant my bit on agreeing about not posting post 24 hours. Sometimes I just feel after a win we are all so positive and then the minute we have a loss or player has an off day we rip in to them and some people make comments that in another 24 hours they may reflect on when the initial anger of a loss has lowered a bit and realise perhaps they were a bit quick to jump. I love how passionate we all are and we want to see th club do well. I just look at how far we have come over the last few years and our list is getting to a great stage!

Maybe not so much people shouldn't post straight after as this is a supportive forum we can all let our feelings out on, maybe sometimes just reflect on all the negatives before we post them.

And on on the second bit you honestly don't think that Harmes and a few others may be starting to fatigue a bit? I think he has great potential along with other youngsters but may need to be managed a little bit at the moment. To me his poor decisions don't seem like bad decision making all the time, sometimes they strike me as a player who may be slightly mentally and physically fatigued. But only he would really know if he is or not

What I couldn't understand was that you seemed to agree that there shouldn't be any hasty posting within 24hrs, but then it seemed to me that you chose to comment on Harmes, Wagner etc. within the 24hr period.  I just wasn't sure that was what happened.

Now that you have confirmed, and even gone on to expand on why some players need a rest, I think my suspicions were correct.

Look, I'm not here to pot other posters, and I don't really like it when others do.  Let's just let it go, my curiosity is satisfied, but please understand if people like me may find this contradictory??

I understand where you're coming from! I am a new member on here as of tonight and that was my first post so I guess I worded it incorrectly. What I more meant was I can see where that member was coming from, but was also wanting to let out a few of my opinions of where the team is at as well. I can see how it does look contradicting to others so apologies for that!

I am definitely not here to cause any rifts between members so no hard feelings at all. Certainly was not having a go at yourself at all!

So what if people criticise the players and club after a loss.

A lot of supporters buy memberships, go to games and club meets etc

We are a passionate and very patient bunch. Lets face it 50 years without a flag and the last ten without finals is pretty bloody f.....well you know.

Yes we have improved.....we bloody well couldn't have gotton much worse than 2 years ago and I for one appreciate it

Yet many of us need to vent about decisions made by the club and players performances and surely thats okay. Thats the nature of passionate supporters.Better on a website than an english soccer game riot.

Im sure there would be much less venting if we played a lot better....so its not all about negativity.

I for one will never complain again if we win just one flag before I meet my maker

IN - at training, David Schwarz to give Jesse a bloody kicking lesson, please.

Or even get JW4 to take him aside and spend time with him.

As John Kennedy (Hawks coach not US President) said - "just do something"!

All good. No probs,  There's no way anyone could hold back posters after a game. It's therapeutic, if not actually full of reason or logic.  And welcome to the site DTees, may you have many more contributions!

In line to be dropped: Harmes, Kent, OMac, ANB, Newton, Kennedy (if injured), Tyson (if ill).

Too hard to say who will come in until Casey plays but we need a second tall (Pedersen/Dawes), we need to replace OMac who is simply not ready for AFL football right now. Oliver comes back if he's fit, and maybe Grimes or Trengove get their chance.

Even harder when you realise that Casey have a bye this week.

It wouldn't surprise to see both Trengove and Dawes selected.  Plenty up for the chop, too.  Who they go for is anyone's guess as the list would be a little longer than normal.

And despite what most drool over, our stocks in reserve are not that deep. Apart from Gus, Oliver, Salem and Trenners the rest are NQR and by no means certainties to be part of our future. Milkshake and Weed will be in the team next year. Gus and Salem have long term health issues which leaves us at the moment with jack sht, to put it bluntly.

Pretty much spot on there Moonie.

It's why I don't understand how others think a Frost, for example, would have made any difference today.  It wouldn't have.  It's just deck chairs at the moment, and I think the inclusions of ANB and Newton prove this.  Neither have set the world alight and, despite ripping VFL form, that hasn't translated to AFL level at all.

Given our habit of bouncing back and a likely re-correction by our coaching staff, I now like our chances of taking on the Hawks.

The corrections should come with

1) Realising that playing five small forwards is not necessarily the best way to approach sides with good foot skills. Our incredibly low tackle count, plus just four inside 50 tackles should mean that we go back to a normal forward structure with Dawes replacing one of them. At least that way we'll have an extra focal point to kick to. We had five small forwards down, so all could be dropped, but I reckon Kennedy will be the first one out and if they decide they want to bring back Vanders quickly, then I'd tip Kent having a week off as well. Harmes could make way for Trengove as well if Roosy wants to give him a go.

2) Realising that when we press up, it's not just Dunny (as he was against St Kilda) that gets exposed. The problem starts with playing slow mids who can't get back and apply pressure on the ball carrier and I'm not talking about Billy Stretch and then the defenders get exposed if they can't make a sudden intercept decision - there's not too many defenders that are like Rance. So that means Neal-Bullen and Newton make way for Oliver and our second fittest player - Grimes.

3) I reckon our defenders actually all did pretty well, except they couldn't cope with Port on the break. If one is to go it may be Garland because of injury and if so, it leaves room for Dunn, although given Roosy's attitude to him, he may want the extra pace of Frost back there. If Garland is fit, then the decision is whether to drop Oscar for Dunn or Frost.

If Garland goes out (inj), O'Mac won't as well. We need some semblance of stability.

Other outs, Kennedy - inj. or badly needs a rest, plus one or two of Newton, Harmes, Kent, ANB.

Can't see us making more than 4 changes unless forced, so ins would be Dawes, Trengove, Oliver, then one of Grimes, White or Vandenberg (if he's ready).

Think we might find selections getting a bit more ruthless as we head deeper into the season. Roos has said that we should have selected more experience, but to do that, we needed to drop ANB or Newton (I presume), which tends to go against Roos' "when you bring players in, stick with them for a couple of games".

How could anyone possibly keep Kent in that side. Must of been watching a different game or not at all.

He was putrid and hasnt been right for a while. Cost us directly with clangers and just poor footy smarts.

Yet another week of Roos conceding selection failures which is extraordinary, but what can you do. I'd love to observe the discussion in selection meetings. Blind Freddy could see that just the two changes would bite us. But onto next week.

Back six needs a shake up. Yes the press let us down but the defence looks abhorrently slow and indecisive. I've defended Garland but he is so damned uncertain in what he does half the time. A player of his years can't continue to make poor decisions. He may be injured which forces the decision. Dunn and Frost to come in. If they fail then so be it but Dunn to replace Garland's experience and Frost for pure athleticism is a gamble I'd happily take.

Legit second tall will be handy to stretch the Hawks defence. Would've been more than handy today.

if Newton and Michie got a chance then Grimes has earned his. I'd keep patience with ANB who I believe will bounce back strongly next week.

It is Trenners o'clock.

Out: Garland (inj?), O McDonald (Casey for the year), Newton, Kent, Harmes

In: Dunn, Frost, Grimes, Trengove, Dawes/Pedo

B: Jetta   Dunn   Frost

HB: Vince   T McDonald   Wagner

C: Stretch   Tyson   Hunt

HF: Petracca   Dawes   Watts

F: Garlett   Hogan   Kennedy

R: Gawn   Jones    Viney

I: Trengove   Neal-Bullen   Bugg   Grimes

Gawn says they tried to adjust at quarter time when leaking goals out the back like a sieve. They couldn't. Number one for conceding scores from the attacking end is nowhere near good enough, inexperience aside. It sucks seeing games that aren't lost on skill or experience but game style. There simply has to be an alternative to implement within a game when things aren't working. All or nothing is costing us goals and ultimately results.

I like this. I would do the same.

we are [censored] around trying to over manage players and using too many NQRs oppose to our best 22 each week and it is pissing me off. Trengove has been right to go for  3 weeks now.

Grimes? Chance for what?

seems like the best way to revive a career is to get dropped and wait for d'landers to forget why you weren't making the team in the first place. FFS

If Garland is out leave in Wagner.

Frost to play down back, Dawes to relief ruck and play FF, Hogan to play CHF.

Clarry Choo Choo to give us some actual ability around the stoppages since Viney will be out.

Really doesn't matter, the Hawks will win this comfortably. Port just belted us by 45, Hawks will win this by 60+

Im so glad I'm not going to this game. I may not even try and get home to watch it on tv.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie
