POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 9

Watts was on today but was being treated by a leper, was frustrated watching his run for no reward. I thought he did ok at ruck duties and dare i say it i think it helped a bit with his feel for the game. I've really missed the Judy that played today, Wagner is the new Peter Walsh, I want Dunn in for Omac, we've seen enough he can do VFL for the rest of the year.

Just a though but it felt like the Brisbane side was told/coached to go to the knee and draw the high tackle - as Leppa said said we have a reputation as good contested footy side, and I thought all of brizzy were playing for frees. I reckon our midfield is scaring people now days they are lining everyone up to work them over. Vince needs to be careful though, too much bloodlust don't want him rubbed out, I almost would be happy for him to play a little more outside and leave the thuggery to Viney/Jones/Petracca/Oliver.

Love our forward line.

First look at Newton this year, he looks a completely different player and a solid man unit.  All hail Football department!

I like Newton i think he has a pretty high ceiling, just needs a good run at it. I'm concerned he will be droped for Tyson though.

I've always liked Newton too something about him and his uncanny knack to bob up with a goal or two. I think he has done enough to play next week against his old side.

That's football, though, and that's the great position our club is finally in.  Newton certainly showed that he has begun to improve his tank and his disposal by foot is good too, but Tyson has the runs on the board and he was only brought in as an emergency.  He'll be stiff, but Tyson has to play.

For Newton it means that he knows he is right on the cusp of selection, and with others also breathing down his neck (Salem, VDB, Trengove, Grimes etc) it means that he needs to keep up this terrific form so he is first pick the next time someone loses form or goes down with injury.

It's a great spot for us, as a club, to be in.

Oh no doubt Tyson plays just hope they give Newton another run. I'd think give Oliver another rest due to the short turn around, the travel and the heat. Hell they may even consider resting Tracc for the same reasons. I k people wont like tracc not playing but the club will be thinking hard about what the travel up there will do to a young kid . Depends if they think the bye is close enough after, only 3 weeks after Alice or something like that

It's not thuggery. It's being proactive and flying the flag for teammates and the club - something we haven't seen for yonks and it's particularly pleasing to see the Skipper leading from the front in this regard.

Agree with Vince though, he needs to keep that elbow from wandering or he'll go again for sure.

Ninth again.

The bad thing about finishing ninth is missing out on finals and the better draft picks. We have traded our first pick away already?

Just finished watching the replay.

I don't get why people think Jason Dunstall is a good commentator. Time and time again, he comes into a game wanting the underdog to win. He spends the entire game calling the play from that team's perspective and bemoans all the skill errors and mistakes they make (hence why they're the underdogs!!). I can understand commentators wanting a close contest but does he have to be so blatant and negative about it? Jonathan Brown would have called it better.

I know everyone hates Dwayne but I'm starting to get around him. He has a clear hard on for Petracca.

I thought OMac wasn't too bad live and the replay confirmed that. Yeah he was a bit fumbly and made some mistakes but he did some nice things too. He's probably suffering from 'Jack Watts 2009 syndrome' whereby he looks like a scrawny schoolboy and thus deceives fans into thinking he's not ready. I'd play him next week.

Hogan clearly BOG.

By my reckoning Rich received votes from both coaches.  Billy Stretch and Jesse Hogan could be the other way round ie 5/3 and 4/4 respectively.  Interesting that Bugg got 5 from one coach and zip from the other...of course my reckoning could be wrong.

  Coach 1   Coach 2
Clayton Oliver   Daniel Rich
2    Daniel Rich   Christian Petracca
3   Jeff Garlett   Jesse Hogan
4    Billy Stretch   Billy Stretch
5    Jesse Hogan   Tom Bugg

The word 'thuggery' I had hoped would come across as tongue in cheek, I have posted more than once that i love how hard they are playing. We're on the same page.

That takes Jones to about $12000 in dinky fines since taking over as captain. Anyone know where this money goes?

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
