Ran out of batteries with 10 minutes to go and just got home. Stretch, Michie and Oliver were the stand outs. Saw Garland against Collingwood and he looked disinterested, was on his game today and has given himself a look in. ANB was serviceable but would not say he banged the door down. Trengove is getting to the right spots but is not up to speed yet with his execution. Being he spent most of the game playing inside could not get a feel for how much better his movement was.

Pity about ANB. I really wanted him to dominate today to seal the deal.

He's been unlucky to miss out on a spot in the seniors to date and he will be again if Garland gets in on the back of one good game (they don't necessarily play the same role, though).

Viv also finished last year strongly, kicking 3 in the last round. I think he is well and truly deserving of a recall.

You're thinking of Ben Newton.

Oops - but nonetheless I think his last few games were good or is my memory failing me there as well.

They were, he came in for the last 4 games from memory and averaged over 20 touches with tidy skills. He seemed to have a knack for finding players inside 50 and was good at clearances.

I hope he comes in this week

Isn't he now a rookie? Can we actually promote him at this stage of the year?

Viv has been our most consistent performer at Casey so far this year and surely must be due a recall. Reward for effort. Problem is I'm not sure that Roos rates him.

Sounds like Roos and I are of the same opinion.

In the games he has had at senior level he has look like the ones we need to replace from yesterday.

VFL player IMO.

They need to put him on ice. He's already had a concussion a few weeks ago and not looked the same since. Time to give him a week or two off to get right.

Angus definitely needs a week, or too, off from match play and any heavy training.

Let him refresh and return better and hungrier than ever in a month or so.

Assuming Oliver is trying to read the words. It's ok buddy, you wont need them again...

EVER..... A FRIGGEN DEESGRACE THAT HE WAS EVEN THERE!

Hulett was good. Looks like a player. Presented well and is a nice kick. Took some nice grabs as well.

That Stretch isn't mentioned in the best is unfathomable.

Also I thought Smith was poor although conditions didn't do him any favours.

How was his defensive intensity? He's always interested me in how he can get and use the ball, even though he lacks a yard of pace, but has mostly looked like a passenger without the ball.

From anyone who was actually there, who do you feel earned a promotion?

Oliver?

ANB?

Trengove?

I know it was his first game back, but would you envisage Spencer being ready in 4 weeks? Six? What was his opposition  like?  Did he do a lot of ground time and much up forward?

That sign in the background must be a few years out of date.  Honor and Essendon should not appear in the same screen.

Although he was probably on the ground for less time, my view from the 2nd half was that Oliver seemed the most comfortable in the thick of the pack and looks a class above VFL. That's really amazing for a first year player.

Next would be ANB, though with a different style to Ollie regarding how he gets in low around a stoppage or central ball up and delivers really well by hand to a Scorps player usually only 3-5m away.

Unfortunately doesn't provide enough speed. Many of our players are the same typ. Viv is no different

I know that VFL is far less intense than AFL but what does it say when Oliver finishes a game off so strongly a week after given a rest from the AFL?

Are our selection policies too conservative or did the win over Richmond mandate that there be no more that one change notwithstanding we were coming off a six day break?

The Saints made three changes to their losing team. In hindsight, you can mount a good argument that their inclusions tipped the balance in their favour.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
