If any club desperately needs a reality check this year it's Richmond. They are in deadset lala land talking premierships and "age of supremacy". Until they and the well-wishing media stop kidding themselves about the quality of their list, they're going nowhere. Hardwick can say he believes in the players all he likes. It doesn't magically make them any better.

Carlton should've won that game. They seemingly won't be walk overs this season.

Bolton has given Carlton a very basic plan to work with so that they can compete in games.  They are basically playing 1-1 defensively then when they get the ball they do a quick switch to the open wing and run like hell to provide options ahead of the ball.  Tonight showed that it is an effective way to keep in the game, but they didn't have the class to finish the job.  A lot of their ball movement into the forward 50 reminded me of Melbourne 2 years ago when our only plan of attack was the high long bomb and hope like hell someone marked it.  I'm fairly sure we'll see them get smashed by the better sides in much the same manner as well.

Richmond on the other hand showed us that they are still weak in the same areas.  They don't like physical pressure.  If a team sits off them they can execute freely, but if you hit them hard and don't give them room to breath they tend to fall apart.  Should be very interesting when we play them.  Our game right now could have been designed specifically to upset them.

On to more important matters now.  How good were the Socceroos tonight?   7-0, and could easily have been 10 or more goals if we hadn't hit the post so often.  We saw a number of our younger players stepping up and showing that they are ready to take up spots in the starting side as well.  Talk about developing depth, we have half a dozen world class attacking mids fighting for three spots, a ready replacement for Timmy Cahil about ready to go and two captains who are basically clones sharing the defensive mid duties.  The only real issue the side has is settling the right and left back spots.  Really looking forward to Tuesday Night.

I am not as sold on Luongo as others are, but he definitely goes ok. Rogic and Mooy on the other hand are potentially world class footballers. Rogic just needs to keep his body right and get fit. And Mooy is ready to move to a big league.

Anyway, wrong sport.

Kind of agree on Luongo.  I think his spot in the side is in danger with Rogic and Mooy improving.  I am wondering if Mooy won't find his way to Man City some time soon too.  He's certainly ready to step up to a better league.

Have watched League, Union (which I do enjoy) and now the round ball. Good to see the AFL ahead of the curve in playing games on Good Friday.

Pep will be shopping for the best players in the world. There are City players better than Mooy that will be having their papers signed - Navas, Fernando etc.

Baby steps for Mooy. Making it into the squad of any Prem side would be a great achievement.

Hopefully Rogic can stay fit and get plenty of gametime over the next 12 months. He's one of the better prospects heading towards the next WC.

Anyone else get the sense the Saints may go backwards this year? i just feel they rely far to much on older guys and the young players just aren't that good, with a couple of exceptions

Yep, Manchester City is a bridge too far, but I think Mooy is good enough to be a regular for a premier league club outside of the big 4 or 5.

Would love to see Rogic get fit and have one more huge year at Celtic. He has shown many flashes of brilliance this year, but just can't get the continuity with his fitness. One consistent year and then he can make the move to a decent club in England/Spain/Germany.

Agreed. Riewoldt they had several guys play out of their skin last year and they still finished below us. I can't see them improving.

One of their former "older guys" is captaining Essendon. I suspect they will go backwards at a greater rate.

No chance, with Ablett back the Suns will win by 10 goals plus...Lynch to kick at least 6

After Half time the Drug Cheats will be cramping up and vomitting, not from peptides this time, but merely because they are not match fit...

At Metricon: GCS 68pts vs EFC 25pts near end of 2nd qtr.  18 scoring shots to 5.

Its going to be a long, ugly winter for the bombers.:)

Can't wait to see their fans race to get off the bandwagon.

Their rally to the G next week may just be one great big fizzer!!

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
