Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

We need another outside runner and to me it is a three way contest between Lumumba, M Jones and Stretch.

Using yesterday's game as a form guide, surely Stretch is stating a case for selection. Lumumba reportedly had little impact and needs to earn back his spot in the side. M Jones has looked decent during the NAB but we know what his ceiling is. I'd have no issue with him being selected but I'd be seriously looking at Billy the kid for Round 1. I'm quite disappointed he didn't get more of a run during the NAB.

They're both young and not yet best 22.

Matt Jones is ahead of Stretch.  He may not be next year or even later in the year, but he's had a great pre-season, is making fewer errors and has the more mature body

The other two have plenty of time.  I like Stretch, but ANB needs to be cleaner.  He's a bit of a fumbler.

I actually think they're different types. Jones to me is purely an outside player, whereas Stretch is good in close, but is used outside because of his lack of physical maturity.

For round 1, it may come down to Jones or Harmes on the wing, and I think they'll go with Harmes.

This is my perfect 2016 Dees team - not Round 1.

Jetta I Dunn I Garland

Vince I T. McDonald I Salem

Oliver I Viney I Brayshaw

vandenBerg I Hogan I Kent

Garlett I Petracca I Watts

R: Gawn I Tyson I Jones

IC: Trengove I Harmes I Frost I Bugg

E: Pedersen I Lumumba I Kennedy

Trac at full forward is an interesting call. Surely in an ideal world he'd be used further up the ground to take full advantage of his physical attributes. I'd be switching him and Hogan around at least.

For the purposes of 2016 alone, I have no issue with Pedersen being a fixture of the front 6. He's become quite reliable. If it's a choice between Frost and Pedo, I choose Pedo.

Ideally, Stretch will be best 22 by season's end. I'd like to see him nudging ahead of Harmes.

I was waiting to see who would comment on Petracca at FF.  Set positions are largely anachronistic, however, I see the role as ideal.

Petracca has a great leap, is a fantastic contested mark and leads well.  Eddie Betts plays a pseudo FF role, because he's smart and leads and marks well.

But forget the set positions and just consider him part of a forward rotation.

It makes no difference whether you consider them different types (and you're splitting hairs) they're competing for the same position.

And there's the problem P man. Not enough hardening up for a youngster whereas experienced players can get away with less match practice.

How good is it having a selection headache where you're trying to work out who misses? I could very much see this team for round 1, but I also feel that M.Jones will be given first up chance over Harmes. He's had a very good pre-season and his outside run would come in handy v GWS.

Pederson v Frost is also a question mark, for me Pedo's ahead. I feel he had a more productive pre-season and is a better second ruck.

Will be very interesting to see the team put up by the match committee.

My selection headache is that the one player Id have in, instead of Frost or Pederson is Spencer.

I think this is a game where we really need to help Gawn out. No point saying we fought the hard fight and poor Gawny was overwhelmed by the Mummy.

The difference between Frost or Peterson and a resting Spencer in the forward line is not large. The hardness he will bring to the contest when Max takes a break is.

No use crying over someone who cant play but I can imagine Mummy dominating by mid 3rd quarter.

Mumford won't be rucking for 120 minutes, so I'd say they'll be looking to match his time on ground with Maxy's. The rest shared between Pederson, Frost or whoever.

Still can't decide the last 3 spots. Has to be either Frost OR Pedersen. Then pick 2 out of 3 from Lumumba, Harmes and Matt Jones.

Brayshaw to half back is the wildcard move I think. If he can play 50% of game time there it frees up Bugg to stay on a wing and removes the need for Lumumba. Then take your pick of the talls and can probably fit both of Harmes and Matt Jones in. Big question will be if they feel comfortable with Brayshaw at half back without him doing any preseason game time there.

The other option is Bugg rotates to half back and Harmes plays time on the wing. Again, have they seen enough of him in that spot? Does he have the endurance to go up against Scully, Whitfield etc?

Listening to Roos's presser and training reports this is my expectation.

Lumumba comes in if he says he's right (didn't this happen last year at some stage?). Vanders and Gus good to go. Frost before Pedo for forward defensive pressure to help nullify the GWS half-back run. Bugg and Kennedy to play.

Roos said there were 25 in the mix. Last spot between Harmes, Oliver, Pedersen and Grimes. Interesting question. Not so sure we'll be seeing Clayton just yet.

Agreed. Assuming Mumford does play you would think Gawn should be cherry ripe to run out the whole game on 3 full practice games whilst Mumford had what half? a game. Has he actually been confirmed to play?

Agree with your side with one hopeful exception - the last two spots to come down to M.Jones, Harmes, Oliver, Pedersen and Grimes.

I know it's only semantics, but I can't imagine Bugg starting on the bench against his old side and would imagine that they would want to reduce Angus' playing time by starting him on the pine.  Vince will play hbf also, so three-way swap with Lumumba (to bench - gametime safety issue as well) and Kennedy or whoever the lucky one that gets in with Pedo.

Had Pederson in there, but opted for Harmes instead as, in the past, GWS have run us off our feet.  With them missing some talls, we need to ensure we have the foot-speed to match them.

Yeah - I didn't pay much attention to positions or starters for the bench. I think if Roos is running M. Jones on the wing in a positional sim at training combined with his previous roles as a defensive forward he'll get a gig -  probably at the expense of Grimes. Then it depends if we want another tall in Pedo or some extra coverage in the middle. For all Oliver has done to deserve inclusion, Harmes also had a great NAB and you'd have to expect he is still ahead.

Yup, I think this is the team. Lumumba needs another week at Casey I think. Even then I'm not sure who he would replace in the backline with Bugg playing so well.

I think they won't go with the three talls (Pederson/Frost/Hogan) just because with the cap they will need players to play multiple positions and a good tanks. Harme's seems the fitter forward. I think Frost and Watt's collectively fill Pederson's role as a lead up forward playing up the ground. Harmes can roll through the middle and tag on a wing or across half back too. Will need his tackling skills.

Will be interesting to see if Kennedy can hold a position in the side. It is hard for someone who has limited touches to show a lot but hopefully he follows in Kent's footsteps by showing aggression and pressure when the opposition have the footy.

Have seen a few teams with Kennedy, Harmes, Kent and Garlett all in the same team. Too many forward pockets for mine. Ditch one of them (Not Garlett) and add another midfielder. For the people that say they can rotate through the midfield...You don't honestly believe that do you? None of them have the fitness base for it.

Roos has indicated that Oscar MacDonald is in the mix for GWS. Maybe Garland or Dunn are under a cloud for GWS?

I feel like it may be a matchup thing. Considering the Giants have a pretty tall forward line. Even without Jezza - Patton (50/50), Tomlinson, Lobb, Hoskin-Elliott

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches.
