Essendon's List

Recommended Posts

I thought this thread would be about picking Essendon's list apart like a carcass.

I'd be in Hurley's ear right now trying to lure him to the MFC.

Of course some of our more sanctimonious supporters won't want a "drug cheat" at the club, but I'm far more interested in trying to win a flag.

And Heppell for that matter, although I tend to think he might be a loyal fella and stick with the club.

Hurley, though, might be someone who will look at it differently.  Only time will tell.

i'm sure there will be plenty of discussion on this in good time, prodee. probably a bit premature at this stage

Yes, I didn't mention Heppell, because he's the one I think definitely won't go.

If a player is registered by the AFL to play in their competition I couldn't care if said player is an axe murderer.

If he's eligible he's eligible.  And if he can bridge the gap towards a flag I want him in my team.  If he can't I don't.

I'll leave the moralising to you and others.

I agree with your basic premise but I would draw the line a bit below Axe Murderer.

I had not thought of that. You would have to imagine that there would be a fair degree of disillusionment amongst the remaining Essendon players. It would not be unreasonable to want a fresh start and difficult for their Club to stand in the way of players wanting to.

In the past I would have had no faith in Melbourne being able to bring in one of the quality players but these days perhaps we can sell the dream.

It will total depend on our results this year fndee.

10+ wins and we are a real chance less and we will struggle to attract good players.

Apparently Essendon is going to be allowed to have some top up players. Are we allowed to have one too?

Nah, because the AFL "need Essendon to become a powerhouse again." They don't give a rats about us, St Kilda, Footscray or Port by comparison.

It didn't look too bad to me!

Experts are predicting no wins for Essendon this year.

Call me a pessimist, but I'm very worried about round 2!

Also, it suggests to me that Essendon's full list (for 2017) is pretty formidable , especially compared to ours.

How I hope I'm wrong!

I quite agree with you here. Does anyone know why Melbourne, St Kilda, Western Bulldogs and Port can't get top up players too?

I worry about our Mental approach to games.

So many games are lost between the ears.

Lets hope the coaches and leadership team ensure that we are focussed and come to play.

It has been shown time and time again, that If a team is down 5% and the oppos. Are 100% then a surprise result is in the offing.

Good point, some players simply thought that by Roos coaching they would become a better side, they didn't realise that they had to put in as well.

I suspect Stockholm Syndrome might kick in for those still at Windy Hill. If that's the case, they may end up with an unbelievably strong willed team in 2017 trying to right what they consider to be a wrong imposed upon them.

And an earlier poster (perhaps more than one) criticised the AFL for keeping Essendon in the 2016 competition and not playing a 17 team competition. Keep in mind that the AFL has a contract with its broadcasters to deliver 9 games a week (other than the bye week and finals). Pretty hard to do that with 17 teams.

We moan about a player being unavailable for 4 - 6 weeks with injury, I don't think I could bear coming here with a player out for 4 - 6 years for homicide.

Looks weak as hell to me, and thats before they get the inevitable injuries all teams get

Hope they go winless

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
