I'm not sure why there's such angst.

West Coast named 24 also and only played 22.  Clubs are gearing up for round one and wanted to make it as similar to normal home & away matches as possible.

How far did they fly for game ?

Well that's obvious.

The point is if taking Trenners was a mistake.   I didn't see Watts exploding into career best form either.  So maybe there's a fair question on how Goodwin handles individual players.

Trengove would give us more than ANB & Harmes who were both very average forwards tonight...little to no forward pressure and no footy IQ.

Maybe the coach didn't play him coz the spots his unless ANB & Harmes were better.

Left them on to see if they could get to that standard.

Seems they didn't

Well you're just a cold-hearted anonymous internet person.

Wow, that's your reply?

If Goodwin didn't have Trengove well and truly informed of how the night would pan out, we're in serious shiit.  I'm confident that he did, and because it is unlikely that we will ever find out, this is what I will believe, hence my dismissing of it all.

Would we be slashing our wrists if it had've been Dion Johnstone that sat on the bench all game?  No.

It was my attempt at humour.

I'll try harder next time.

Common sense would suggest Trengove was well aware that unless there was a late out or injury during the game he would not be playing. Goodwin said we wanted to stick with playing 22 players, I'm sure this would have been stated and reiterated to the players. To think Trengove was sitting on the bench all night not knowing what was going on is just ridiculous.

He was named in the team, he was not an emergency.  If Goodwin wanted him to play- he could have.

People aren't questioning the technicality, rather the choice that was made for him not to play.

Did we really need three full preseason games into Jones, Vince and Lewis?  Maybe you and some others think so, but the frustration for many is the fact that we have shown little versatility over the three games and have left ourselves with many unknowns going into round one.  Jetta hasn't played at all and we got carved up last night by Lecras; Weidenman is talented, but is he going to outperform Pederson, who we also haven't seen; are the two Macs in better form than Frost, again we don't know.  If the plan was to have Trengove as an emergency, why not take over a first year played and give them some experience traveling and preparing interstate?

It's not 'stupid' for people to be asking some of these questions.

Correct, there are no emergencies named for JLT matches, but you think we don't name players on an extended interchange bench (as Trengove was) so as to use him as an emergency?

The gripe I have comes down to the fact that Trengove was there and didn't play.  That we have seen the same players each week and we're now left scratching our heads over ANB, Harmes and Bugg and crossing our fingers over Tyson, Kent and Gartlett.  Preseason should be an opportunity to see how training form translates to matchday.

Each match of the JLT Trengove was initially named, then demoted to emergency the morning of.  I am very disappointed that we as fans, and the coaches didn't see what he was capable of over this four week stretch.

TPF39 , i agree, i think t'was an opportunity forsaken. Was a practice game, but at a level to properly evaluate Trenners. Casey provides nothing by comparison.

Regardless of pre-game strategy the situation still sucks for JT .

Why was it a mistake to take him ?

If a player was crook or tweaked something in the warm up then he would have played.

Agree, and if we had a couple of in game injuries then he would have played to manage rotations, that's why he was ready to go on the bench.  But thankfully he wasn't required.

Isn't that the point?   This is a player that would accept sitting on the bench the entire game is what the team required, but that doesn't mean it doesn't damage his confidence.

Goodwin has pulled two stupid culture moves with Watts and now Trenners.

Have to agree with that, it's not been a good start from a perspective point of view, he should have cleared up the Watts situation himself, rather than have the players answer the questions and he should have either left Trenners out, or played him for some of the game.  It showed a total lack of respect for the player and i don't care if it was a first year player or a former captain, it just doesn't look good, it was a practice match FCS.

So far Goodwin has not impressed with his player handling, I hope he can coach a bit better.

Whilst I suspect the Goodwin has a good relationship with most players (judging from listening to a glowing endorsement from Tommy Mac the other day), I agree fully with Dante above!

Jack has given a lot to the MFC since he was recruited as No. 2 in the draft, and certainly deserved to be given a chance to demonstrate his contribution post recovery. It was not just Goodwin's insensitivity in the humiliating way he named him and then flicked him, but the perception that this has created within the MFC family and the wider Football Community!

    GOLDIE'S METTLE by Meggs

On a perfect night for football at the home of the Redlegs, Norwood Oval, it was the visiting underdogs Melbourne who led all night and hung on to prevail in a 2-point nail-biter. In the previous round St Kilda had made it a tough physical game to help restrict Adelaide from scoring and so Mick Stinear set a similar strategy for his team. To win it would require every player to do their bit on the field plus a little bit of luck.  Fifty game milestoner Sinead Goldrick epitomised

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play
