Callum Twomey Phantom Draft

Oliver definitely didn't have a pre season at all due to OP. This is why i am excited by his upside. Killed the TAC cup with no fitness base whatsoever.

Imagine him under a full AFL pre season.

There ya go, i only watched one Bushies pre season session this year, and he was doing a bit there, perhaps just testing things out.

he's bounced back very well from the OP to still have the pace he does.

I don't understand your attitude, is this not a debate about a very important selection?

or am i not allowed an opinion unless it's the same as yours?

You repeat the same stuff over and over and over. And then you do it again.

And yes, it's an important selection. One with which you and I have zero influence over (and over).

Maybe we shouldn't have a discussion forum because we have no influence over it.

it's pretty simple really, don't like my posts don't read them.

Is Parish a similar type to Scully? They appear to have similar body types at the same age. Both were elite ball getters at junior level over a couple of years. Has Parish got better skills than Scully at the same age?

He's a totally different player to Scully. Scully was/is a running machine, Parish is a footballer.

There was another pick 3 who had OP and many were waiting for him to have a full preseason 'dazzle'.

I think there is a question mark over parish's height and weight.

He is too small for the midfield Roos is trying to build:

Oliver is the exact height and weight for what we are looking for.

Could step into the midfield tomorrow and physically compete with the best in the comp.

Parish would get bullied at every contest until he puts on another 10kg

So because we don't have trading on draft day (yet) - clubs cannot target players?

If ever there was a year to target a player at 3 it is this year - there have been two players seemingly set in stone at 1 and 2 since before trade week.

Agree. Based on the really fascinating interview with Taylor on afl.com and more recent comments my sense is that they have their player locked in. Given the seeming certainty of picks 1 and 2 surely this was a key driver in the decision to get pick 3. If we go oliver, who seems to fit the roos mould, then I reckon that decision was along time ago

Twomeys take on Oliver:

"With a clump of clubs keen on the tough, physical and big midfielder. The Morrish medallist kicks goals, marks well above his head and has an explosive streak that sees him dominate clearances"

Wisbys take on Colin Sylvia pre drafting:

"Powerhouse 6' “ruck-rover”/forward. Strong overhead but needs to improve kicking accuracy"

Lets hope if we take him he's more Wines, less Sylvia

I shudder when I read comments like this. Football talent is the only consideration when it comes to drafting midfielders.

Given it appears that Parish and Oliver are both possibilities for pick 3.

One way of anticipating the thinking is how many other up and coming players we have of this type?*

Parish - appears similar to Stretch and ANB, with Salem, Vince etc also similar mids

Oliver - appears similar to vandenBurg and Petracca with few other similar mids.

Not sure who this indicates we'll pick, but if all else is "equivalent", it probably points to Oliver.

*this is off very limited viewing of both candidates

If we think we will get Prestia next year, then surely another small mid is not the priority.

I suggest you confirm that he actually had no pre season, because i'm quietly confident he at least did a part of pre season.

secondly we're discussing who is a safer bet, a kid who's been injury free for two years or a kid who's struggled with OP...

Thirdly the knocks i have on Oliver have nothing to do with pre season or not, they're simply that i don't think he's all that smart as a footballer, just a bit of a brute.

so which one is it. he did a pre season or he had OP

We will try to get Prestia next year but centring our drafting around this hypothetical would be very stupid

I meant in addition to, not centering around. Adding Prestia to small mids in Jones, Viney, ANB, Stretch, JKH, Kent, Kennedy, Bugg, Salem and even Garlett etc, would give us a mosquito fleet of small mids. I don't think another is the priority.

I think Roos and Goodwin would like a couple more in the AVB, Petracca and Brayshaw mould.

I can only go by the type of player Id like to see do well.

After too many years of watching tough inside scrums and hard fought spartan efforts (and thats from our good players) Id like to watch clean hands, clever vision and accurate passes.

I would like polish and thats Parish.

Gotta love phantom drafts. I see Brett Anderson has decided that if Richmond don't pick Daniel Rioli, they may instead pick...Daniel Rioli.

Oh, and he's following the latest groupthink (which, admittedly, may be based on inside info, not just Olisik's opinion) and has us picking Oliver and the Weed.

To be fair to Brett his other Phantom drafts are his list of the players in his personal order. This last one is where the clubs will pick the players.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
