Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Probably longer ago except for the fact that the club was ruined by incompetent management from the board down.

No one is expecting Clayton Oliver or Sam Weideman to drag us out of the s...., this has already started but these kids will add to the structure that has now been started.

I will be disappointed if we don't move into the 6 - 12 region of the ladder next season and I think only injury will hold us back.

I am not expecting Clayton or Sam to drag us out of the mire, but I would've hoping that they would be putting themselves forward for at least a few games as the 2016 season progresses, especially Oliver

No   That would be unfair pressure on him (along the lines of JW QB debut) and would also mean that some who got us there missed out

Surely Goodwin would want to be drawing parallels with Smith, not Roos.

lf we are to be dragged out of the mire and toward glory, he will be the one to do it. His appointment will determine our fate more than most.

And I'm very happy that for the first year in many, I do not hope or expect our draftees to come in & play any significant role in 2016.

Obviously it's very early days, but I'd love to get a feel from fellow Demonlanders who have seen him, about how Ollie is shaping up at training.  For example, how does he compare to Gus and Track 12 months ago ............yeah, I know I'm starved for a bit of post Christmas Melbourne footy news, but there's only so many times that you can watch the AGM interviews, or revisit the great training pics provided by 666.

One of the photo sets from Six6six shows Petracca dummying right then stepping left to go around him.  Oliver looked like he thought it was the best thing ever.  I get the impression that the smile is pretty much a permanent fixture for him when he's playing.  Looking at those photos shows that he has a lot of muscle to build to catch up with Petracca.

Fairly harsh comparison there Maximus. Hercules, Schwarzenegger and your brother, Brutus, could all feel in need of a few gym sessions standing next to Petracca. The kid has a freakish build doesn't he

Hopefully it will be a lot of fun watching them both develop as explosive midfield/forwards over next decade

Yes, that much is obvious. But it is still what we'd be hoping for.

To attempt to draw that parallel with Roos is futile, because he certainly won't be around long enough.

I am really looking forward to seeing the Casey reports this year as there should be some very good footballers in the seconds. Oliver excites me as it will be interesting to see his improvement in an elite environment. His improvement between the end of the season and the combine was sensational. If he had that level of fitness at the beginning of the season would he have been the number 1 selection?   I'm looking forward to future training reports and I am hopeful that similar to Brayshaw that he forces himself into the round 1 side.

I get the feeling that Oliver won't be featuring too heavily in the Casey reports this year and that he will replicate Brayshaw in his Round 1 debut. Looking at the seconds reports shall be confined to salivating over Weideman.

Try the Checker Hughes Paul Roos comparison, probably more valid

Any news on how Oliver is tracking? Is he fitting in with the boys? Is he up the back in the runs or is he working his way up the group? Is he competing well in stoppage training? Does it look like he will be debuting in red and blue early in the year?

He's an exciting prospect who might give us some x-factor sooner rather than later if he's developing well!

I've only heard positives about him on the track.

I'd say his eyes probably lit up when Petracca broke his toe.  Did his chances of slotting into the half forward flank for round one no harm at all.

The only thing I've read about him is someone posted on here he smashed ANB in a one on one ball gathering exercise 9 times out of 10.

Has he been training exclusively with the midfielders? Is his fitness going to allow him to play midfield straight away like Bradshaw did? Or is he going to play in the forward line for a while before getting his fitness up like Petracca seems destined to?

We haven't heard much about Oliver. Conversely, Essendon can't shut up about Parish.

Guess they need something for their members to look forward to.

And that's what we did for years - talk up the kids to give us hope.  We have barely done that at all this year, and it's telling.  I see it as a real positive.

Yep, the parallels are amusing. I was listening to SEN this afternoon and the hosts were going on about top-up players. Eventually one of them said something like, "just get the kids in! Throw them into the furnace and see who thrives! They have some great young talent and this Parish kid seems like a future captain, so throw them in and see who stands up and leads their team, it'll be really exciting."

I laughed. As a wise man once said, history is doomed to repeat itself.

Likewise, Carlton are doing it as well. They're already throwing Silvagni's kid to the wolves in the media.

It's like the media and PR departments just can't help themselves. Anything it takes to get a few extra memberships, even if it means lumping unnecessary pressure on their 18 year old kids.

I've been impressed with what I've seen at training so far. He's looked a little lost at times in certain drills but that's to be expected of first year players. As much as he's a contested ball winner don't be fooled into thinking he's only got the one string to his bow. The kids got some tricks up his sleeve.

Haven't been to training post Xmas, but from the few sessions I did see of him there's nothing much to report which isn't really a bad thing.

They do the majority of sessions with all players mixed in together these days, but he has been in the midfield group from what I recall. Brayshaw played mainly forward last year with only spurts in the midfield, I expect the same from Oliver. His fitness looks decent for a kid, he's in the lower group but I haven't seen him struggle, probably on par with Brayshaw's last year. I'm been impressed by his agility and his size and shape.

I don't actually expect him to do anything at training that would change expectations between now and the intraclub and NAB challenge games.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
