Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Indeed. Pretty stoked with 3, 7 and the opportunities that now present us through shrewd, prudent wheeling and dealing. Proud of JM and the boys and for the club.

If we can unearth a A-grade star with either pick (or both would be awesome)...

PS. The Bombers, Blues (Giants) and Pies can go jam it!

Yes we need our version of the '04 draft. We pick the talent of a Roughhead and Franklin whilst Essendon get a Tambling and Meesen (I'm happy for Brisbane to pick up Delidio).

In the past, given this position, we would have foofed it up but I feel way more comfortable that we may actually get it right this time around.

Unlike Micky Turner to talk up one of his charges ...

Charlie Curnow (3/2/1991. 191cm, 95kg. Geelong Falcons)

Tall forward/midfielder

AFL biography: Powerful tall forward/midfielder who is extremely athletic, strong overhead and dangerous near goals. Showed potential for the NAB AFL Academy against VFL opposition earlier this year before a dislocated knee kept him out of the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships. Returned to TAC Cup football with Geelong Falcons in the last four matches, kicking 13 goals and showcasing his potential as a marking forward. Brother of Carlton's Ed.

"When the AFL clubs came around at the start of the year - without knowing what was coming ahead - I said Charlie could potentially be the No. 1 pick. He won't be, because he missed the national championships and there are some fantastic kids around - but I haven't changed my mind that much. He's the youngest of five kids and a bit of a free spirit. He goes to uni and loves his surfing, but he has massive upside. He's a fantastic athlete - he has some unbelievable times under his belt on the athletics track and he's a good high jumper, but he's still learning how to use it on the footy field. We've had him play full-back, centre half-back, centre half-forward and full-forward for us, but at the start of the year when he was really fit we had him playing as a ruck rover. He's carrying a bit of puppy fat and freaks the clubs out a bit, but keep saying hang on, he's an 18-year-old kid. Once he gets to a club he'll knuckle down and work hard. He's got massive upside."

Michael Turner, Geelong Falcons talent manager

Thanks. I wouldn't overlook this kid at 3. I dare say he'll be gone by 7. Versatile 191cm - has played MID, FB, CHB, CHF, FF and given what Turner and Wallace have both stated, "He's got massive upside." Roos likes tall mid competitors and he likes players that are versatile. Unbelievable times, good high jumper, free spirit and fantastic athlete. Ticks several important boxes IMO. And given these attributes I wouldn't necessarily pigeon hole him as a KPF as some may have.

I do like that when forward he can lead effectively into space, take a mark, and quickly look for the next option to move the ball further into attack.

If Gold Coast were happy to move from pick 3, it does suggest they don't mind which of the top players they get... unfortunately that points to being happy with getting one of the talls we might want, that are hovering in that top half dozen. Throw in Essendon's needs - their only tall players are Hooker, Hurley, Daniher, Bellchambers and McKernan - and we could see three good talls gone in three picks.

Although it is funny, looking at the footywire lists, Essendon have almost as many players listed as midfielder/forward as they have 'just' midfield. If that is their vision of the future of AFL, then they might grab Balic with one of their picks.

The 'Meet Charlie Curnow' profile and video is up on the AFL website and they show little snippets of him playing. Personally just watching the small footage he has a bit of Jesse Hogan about him.. now not saying he will turn out like him but just his body on body work and seem to get up the field a bit.

There is definitely some potential locked away there.

I thought this, too, Dazzle. The mark followed by the push away of the opponent was Hogan-like. I don't know who you'd try to snare with the earlier pick now.

AFL pocket profile posted today, he seems very self-assured not over confident or cocky and the highlights look promising. I would almost rather take him at 3 unless we're certain he'll be their at 7. Im sure parish is talented but he doesn't really stand out that much from the other mids around that range in my opinion and considering we have traded our future first rounder this might be our best opportunity to get another talented tall in to pair with hogan.

It does seem that Parish is the consensus pick 3. If one of Curnow, Francis or Weideman were available at pick 7, it's a win no matter how you look at it.

Parish is OK, But I would be equally happy with both of Weideman & Curnow, developing Curnow as a mid/come forward

Bit torn on Curnow, he is probably the one that I would hate to miss out on in terms of having the highest ceiling in terms of Weideman, Parish, Francis, Milera etc. But pick 3 sounds like it is perceived as being a little high for him. Just struggle to see him lasting to pick 7.

I was dead set on bringing another solid midfielder in Parish to lineup alongside Viney, Pettracca, Brayshaw and Dom.

But this kid just looks like a terrific natural footballer. Seems to have good awareness of time and space around him, marks and uses the ball well. The question mark for me is still his competitiveness. Would like to see or hear more of his tackling and intent at the footy.

We hear of him being a possible high fwd / midfielder but I haven't seen much of his contested ball winning/stats in that area as a midfielder. Definitely looks terrific on the lead and in contested marking situations. Recovers well when the ball comes to ground and has nice agility in his ability to turn off of his opponent. Just wish there was more on his defensive side.

The vid on the AFL website is great, Ill be shocked if we dont take him at pick 3 now. He and Jesse would be a force to be reckoned with

*** I reserve the right to change my pick 3 choice once they release the Darcy Parish video

You make it sound like the recruiters are sitting at Roosy's house watching YouTube while sinking a few coldies.

On a serious note, I am torn. It is sad that more than looking forward to the players we will get, I am even more concerned about the players we don't get.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
