Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Warmed my heart to read Col's statement. A humble guy.

This heartfelt comment is what all supporters want to hear from their players but in today's cattle market very rarely get to hear or read.

Call me old fashioned but if loyalty completely disappears then the game will be much the poorer.

It is encouraging to hear the sense of belief that players like Hogan and Garland have in our players, club and direction. This spoken belief sustains me.

I was thinking on Sat that James Frawley might be happy and also lucky to play in a premiership side, but it never seems quite the same as for the one club player.

Agree Ernest but perhaps we are just from another era!

I voted let go, now I regret it. Sorry Col.

Is it kosher to remove my vote? No, It stays as a permanent record of the fickle nature of football.

Why if you change your vote your point is worthless , I wouldn't mind if he walked but he's obviously loves the club but at best he should've got 2 years we love giving 3 year deals Terlich Matt Jones Pederson Jamar the guys 27 and struggling that's why I love the way ghe Hawks go about it he would've got a 1 year deal at the Hawks and told if you perform we will put you on a year to year contract but that's why there the greatest and our clubs crap.

No doubt old chap but the values are just as important. Would the Hawthorn crowd have chanted Cyril's name so loudly if he had done a Frawley?

More importantly what is your favourite Scotch ?

That covers a lot of ground.

Of the ones I can just afford

Good news.

Whilst Colin has his critics, (and on many occasions, that criticism has been justified), I still value his commitment and loyalty.

Would be interested to see if Roos/Goodwin consider freshening him up by giving him a 'change of scenery' and move him forward in 2016 - if Dawes continues to stagnate, a mobile type such as Colin (who's hands do not seem to be made of concrete) could be helpful for Hogan by creating that much valued 'separation' that permits Hoges to go 'one-on-one' with his direct opponent.

Perhaps a short term deal was proposed by the Dees and rejected. I agree that a 2 year deal would make more sense.

A little easier for the Hawks when their list is so deep.

In the case of Matt Jones and Terlich, i think you'll find they got 2 year deals.

Good afternoon.

What to say.

Clearly the club values him highly and after reading that article it seems that his heart and head are with helping us move up the ladder. It was quite impressive to be honest...

Obviously my opinion is based on what I see on game day either at the ground or on the television and clearly as a supporter, you don't and can't know all.

And clearly I don't.

I'll back Garland and the club on the decision and hope he can recapture his 2013 form next year as we desperately need him playing consistently high level football.

I don't back away from my criticism of certain aspects of his playing. There are many things I'd like to see gone from his game next year and plenty of things I'd like to see added. I'd love to see some aggression added to his game, greater endurance and will to run and for him to minimise his decision making errors. He's always been good as a one-on-one defender but I want to see that 2013 versatility come back into his game.

Thank you for your commitment Colin, I look forward to a big pre-season of running followed by a consistent year of footy.

Good post. I used to love Colin, then went cold on him, due to his limitations. It's funny, but reading some of those quotes has made me fall back in love again. What a legend. I too will back the club in here.

What I want to see from him is an attack on the game. That is, run and carry, taking a few risks off half back. We can't carry reactionary defenders who stuff around with dinky little kicks across half back and are hesitant one-on-one. When Colin is playing his best, he's beating forwards one-on-one (with a good spoil away) and then rebounding strongly.

Alternatively, what I'd much prefer to see Colin in next year is the swingman role. Could see him being a really handy second KPF, particularly if we trade Dawes, even if we don't. Hogan, Pedersen and Garland would be tough to deal with.

He is not better then Dunn and Lumumba. Thats just laughable.

And he will NOT finish top 10. I will be very very shocked if he did.

Funny the things you read on threads you haven't visited for a while on one of the several devices you read DL on Edited by binman

To all the people who wanted him traded... Watch that video, exactly the type of bloke you want around your club. Not to mention the questioning of his on field contribution was unwarranted aswell

Why not? Everyone is subject to scrutiny when you finish where we did.

Your post is just sycophantic

I watched him closely this year after he was awarded the golden ticket and its fair to say he did a reasonable job defensively but had some massive brain fades as pointed out in the St Kilda game. He just needs to pick up his offensive game.

As fans we have been through so much, maybe we forget the players do go through the same, they just get paid for it.

It makes the red and blue heart swell with pride when you read what Colin Garland said. He told his manager don't even look at other clubs I want to be a one club player, I'm a Melbourne person for better or worse.

Very very rare these days with FA let alone playing for a lower rung club. Here is hoping we are cheering Col, Jonesy et al some finals success who have been through the tough times.

Go DEES!!!!

Quote

“I told my manager I didn’t want to speak to any other club, but it’s funny after seeing one of my great mates [James Frawley] win a premiership on the weekend, because you have to be envious of success,” he said.

“I was watching the game and people said ‘wouldn’t you love success?’ and I said ‘it wouldn’t mean anything to me unless it was with Melbourne’ for top dollar

it's all well and good to say you love the club and blahblahblah but it could be a case of nobody came a-knocking

When I look at the stats on the left under my user name it says: 0 warning posts.

I am not going to address your ridiculous post in fear of losing that.

Wonderful sentiment and fantastic quotes from Garland. There is no need to say any of that stuff when re-signing, so I value those thoughts highly.

I'm somewhat in the STMJ camp in that I'm not overly enthused with him on the field based on 2015, but now that he's recommitted and, clearly, displaying the right attitude for 2016 and beyond, I'll back him in to become the leader we need him to be, and I hope he is a role model (both on the field, and off) for anyone else who may be thinking about chasing a ready-made flag with Hawthorn/Sydney/someone else.

ooooh got me ouch

pack of sycophantic lightweights around here

I for one want to see the club move somewhere towards fielding 22 AFL quality footballers and decisions like this get in the way of that

but you enjoy your little press piece - hopefully, if only for a moment, it takes your mind off the fact we haven't played finals for 9 years

go ahead and ask a Hawthorn supporter about it, they probably have no idea who Garland even is

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
