Tom Browne tweeted today that Adcock's contract won't be renewed by the Lions as part of their aggressive push to go with youth.

Is he worth a look, or is he just another Grimes type player that we don't really need more of? He was excellent a few seasons ago but hasn't done much of note lately.

Thoughts?

If true, how could Brisbane possibly expect to get a priority pick when they're shoving out players who are clearly still in their best 22?

Bringing things onto themselves the Lions!

Unless they already know they are getting an extra pick and are making space?

Probably not the direction we're going with regard to trade/free agency.

We are looking to bring in players in a younger age bracket now.

Turns 30 this year. Might be better suited as a 2 year rental as depth at a top 6 club. Not who we need.

Yeh naaa, we ain't a retirement home

No you're right, we're not a retirement home.

But we are a club who has lacked and still lack quality leaders in the 27 + age bracket who can consistently bring effort and the right mentality week-in and out.

Jones is the only one who can be held in that regard.

Cross and Vincent are the next two but we've had to bring them in.

Garland

Dunn

Jamar

They're all NQR with Dunn perhaps the only one who set a standard last year and has for the most part backed it up.

I'd welcome someone like Adcock as long as his body is sound. His effort and competitiveness are contagious and I think he's the right candidate if we're looking at bringing in another experienced face.

Do supporters get that we're still off the pace with quality leaders who provide consistent effort?

I mean ffs Crossy runs around at a snails pace and his kicking gives me cardiac arrest but he provides so much care, will and desire to fight. Something that is immeasurabley important for our younger guys. He wouldn't be getting games at any other club right now which speaks volumes about the lack of decent leaders our club has had.

Blokes like Adcock are the ones who should be direct replacements for players like Garland in terms of AFL experience, leadership and role models.

I'd much rather him on our list than Garland or Jamar.

I'd be all for picking up Adcock as a DFA.

At worst he would be a good depth player as a small/medium defender. We've seen how much we struggled with our disposal coming out of defense once Salem went down so it's always good to have another good user.

Look at it this way. If he's a DFA, would he be better than ND pick 70+?

I would suggest yes.

If we have to trade picks to the Lions, they would be asking, what, a 2nd-round pick? 3rd-round?

That would require some head scratching.

I'd be inclined to say no, but not straight away. Maybe arrange for a trade of some picks?

I mean, we absolutely need someone who plays his role. Grimes' disposal is dubious, Howe just looks like he doesn't care, and nobody has any idea what Lumumba does.

It all boils down to who is still on our list. We'd be crazy not to enter discussions with his management.

Edit: Having re-read stmj's post, I realise I misread, and put words in his mouth. My apologies.

Brisbane have said that he's not required, so he'll be a DFA. He's been a solid player, but not a damaging one. I'd rather keep Cross, and groom one of the younger players to fill the half back role. At 30yo and injury prone, I'd pass.

Agree, i'd rather keep Cross on for another 2 years than bring in Adcock.

Backline talent is a huge hole even before whatever happens with Garland and Howe.

But I'd back Salem and Jetta in for better years next year. With some development I hope Stretch can play half back flank. Grimes will be Grimes, not pretty or really AFL standard but he's who we've got for now. Terlich, do we pay him out or not? White is young and raw. Then there's the talls.

I think we'd be better off sticking with Crossy for 1 more year and if we get improvement from the young midfielders (Tyson, Viney, Vanders, Brayshaw etc) then we can use Vince more at half back.

I think we'll probably come down to a spot to use with a delisted free agent again and I'd consider Adcock but I'd much rather picking up another younger guy for a 2nd chance.

Lol so we completely blast our senior players only to find that some want this guy who got run down by a 208cm giant only a couple of weeks ago by the name of Max Gawn!? FMD haven't we not learn't anything on the weekend?? There is a reason why guys like Lumumba Cross Dawes were shown the door by their respective clubs beforehand so easily . Its because they knew they were past it and it created a spot for a younger player.

Adcock is finished! Watched him this year and he has hardly made an impact. What makes it all funny is some on here want him for his leadership!? Leadership from what!?? How to play in a basket case of a side with a horrendous culture of players just getting up and leaving every year??

As someone else mentioned we are not a [censored] retirement home.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
