Steady on Ernest-"Angela Merkel is my pin up girl".

I'm told she'll let anyone in.She could be more careful in her selection, and so could you.

I would never have thought Biffen that we had similar tastes, perhaps just showing that you a multi faceted man. Anyway you have jacked and made frivolous the main point that women are not only our equals but indeed superior in most things. I mean to say how many women would be on this site reading and posting . They have far better things to do. Yet if we had more women on this site it would improve the tone, the intellect and general standard. Indeed it could become a dating site extraordinaire. Even Old Dee might get excited.

It's a while since I heard the stat but i remember being told that AFL has the highest percentage female audience out of any on the contact sports. Let's get behind the development, from a risk/ reward perspective I think it's an easy decision for the club, not like our audiences could get worse and it doesn't take a marketing degree to see that by further involving 50% of the population you are making your brand more attractive for sponsorship. And personally I find watching courage very entertaining, and the girls do play with courage.

And on a political level - the reason we as a country are so successful internationally at sport is because of our women. Why is that? Because our culture is tolerant of women playing sport. I like our culture, I want it to win against all the repressive, stupid, ugly, cultures in the world. And I think supporting women playing footy helps (our superior) culture get stronger ( and that it makes us a fairer society).

There is no more important inclusion in the Demonland banner for 2016 then Daisy if you ask me, she's right up there with Jesse and Chunk as the most marketable and passionate demons out there.

100% agree. Hopefully she makes it onto the banner!

I will embrace the female footyside like I embrace a cheap bottle of ALDI red…………………. some may refer to it as paint stripper!!!

EFC are going after a licence!

From The Age on the same topic: "The Bombers hosted a training session at their Tullamarine training facility on Tuesday evening for 80 young women from the AFL Victoria Women's Academy Program".

Of all the Vic teams they least deserve one.

They have done SFA for the women's game and are now jumping on the bandwagon.

I will be really filthy if they get one.

Well they're scum, we know that.

But if other clubs begin to venture into the women's competition it only provides more competition and is probably a good thing.

Agreed...any other club but Essendon!

After the supplements/drugs disaster they should be at the bottom of the list.

They have a sense of entitlement where they think they can just waltz in and do as they please.

Can't stand them!

It's great to see so many teams getting behind it. The AFL should be mindful of how they go about establishing it and look at the A-league and how they established the competition in the beginning. Too many teams will dilute the talent pool and dilute the support.

If the AFL were being fair they would give Melbourne and the Bulldogs first right at a license as both clubs have been all over this from the get go, and Melbourne in particular have made sure to make the womens team not just feel like their an exhibition team that happen to wear the same colours but make them feel a part of the club.

Daisy's speech at the B&F was one of the highlights for the year.

Ugh, [censored] off Essendon. Everything they do infuriates me.

Absolute filth of the highest order.

Im with you. The filthy pirks are probably using this as a strategy to keep their names in the public eye, with their mens team banished for a couple of years.

They should be long way back in last place for a womens licence.

Dees and Bullies would only be a formality one would think.

The MFC should simply be granted the foundation  licence...as should the Doggies. All others are welcome to "apply"

I'd like the club to lobby for this.

No more ought we allow ourselves to be trodden roughshod  over. A timely reminder to the AFL about history i would  suggest.

Really hope as Pioneers of this, and assuming we gain one of the licenses would really hope that the team is able to keep the likes of Daisy and Tayla, and same with the Bulldogs - there really needs to e something in place for us to keep players who are now well and truly part of our club

Also, my Wife cannot stand women in men's sport of any form, she even goes after the umpires stating "It's a mans games, why can't women just let them have their game!?"  I just laugh at her.

"Although the cost of developing and running a female team is not the equal of a men’s VFL team, it is nevertheless a considerable financial investment"

Where is the money going to come from to run a womens team ? That's my biggest concern

initially the costs can be kept low

e.g. small number of teams

small team list sizes

short (very) season

games played as  curtain raisers (no or little cost)

gov (state and fed) chip in some money

afl chip in some money

tv rights maybe

some sponsors will be interested

just some random thoughts

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
