On this day in 1991, the enigmatic excitement machine Allen Jakovich kicked 11 goals, 8 behinds and 1 out on the full vs North at the MCG

Would love to know where Jaka is these days. He seemed to completely fall off the radar after his retirement... he would make for a great interview on Open Mike!

Isn't he captain of a prawn trawler up north, Exmouth or Derby somewhere?

I was there that day. Something not often remembered is that from memory he had kicked 10 or 11 goals and only 1 point at 3/4 time. I think there was some stuff happen off the ball in the last and he lost his focus a bit and started missing. But dead set he could have kicked 16 goals that day. O song he was unstoppable. Pity he didnt like training or rehab or he could have been a genuine champion of the game

He was an absolutely freakish talent.

Like a fat Ablett with a mullet.

The last of the great unprofessionals.

He was an absolute freak. Absolutely unstoppable on his day. And not a flat track bully. He was just as likely to kick a bag against a top side as against a bottom side. I was privileged to see his short career.

For those of you only old enough to remember Jurrah, this guy was even better.

Forget anyone playing today (if freakish things are your style). In his very brief time at the top, pre back injury, he was a rolled gold superstar

I think they lasted for a little while after Jacko...

I remember the first time I saw him playing in the reserves when he'd give a fearful spray to any teammate who didn't deliver the ball to him lace out. I thought to myself at the time that he was a goose, and then half an hour later - even if he was a goose he wouldn't be playing magoos for too long - what a freak of a player. Kicked an absolute bag full and continued to do so until he was promoted into the seniors and went on his merry way. Would have been one of the absolute greats of the game until cut down by injury.

When he played in the magoos he was also seriously fat. A big tub of lard he was. If only he had his brothers discipline and injury luck.

Yep, biggest but in the business, but you had to take the complete package with Jako, that's just the way he rolled.

Yep 11 goals to 3/4 time then got Reported

Jakovich was the best forward i have seen

The Jimi Hendrix of AFL

I was down at muddy Moorabbin in I think his 3rd or 4th game. Kicked 8.7 till 3/4 time then nothing. Rag dolled Spud Frawley and upstaged Lockett for a memorable win. Saints fans were saying who the hell was this guy. They couldn't believe his performance.

sory if this was mentioned earlier but didnt Jacka sissor kick one of those goals against the roos (jackaroo!) when they were rebulding the southern stand if I recall.

Another great game was the Jacka and Bennett show at Windy Hill one yr when we snuck an impossible win at least 6 goals down at 3/4 time. Dad and I were in the essendon member with my melbourne jumper on (no 13 of course) and dads wins $1000 off his lawyer mate who got us in there. Im sure he paid it back at some stage...

IIRC, Jackovich still holds the record for quickest (least games) to 50 goals.

A genuine talent - possibly the last, (or one of the last), "rock'n'roll" full forwards.

Can anybody link to Demonblog's Allen Jackovich day write up? The greatest blow by blow description you could read. I haven't read it for years.

I'll never forget going across Punt Rd to the Royal to celebrate the win & the pub was full of excited Demon supporters. They had the radio on in the background & Van Morrison's "Gloria" started playing. The next thing I new the whole bar was singing "J-a-k-o-v-i-c-h" to the chorus. What a magic afternoon that was.

IIRC Round 1 1994 v Geelong he kicked 8.8 with at least one out of bounds on the full. Followed it up in Round 2 with 4.10 against Hawthorn at Waverley.

Was a sensational player when 'on'.

Tore Gary Pert a new one ,then Mick Gayfer.

In the footage you can see Pert is actually afraid of him.

His celebrations were fantastic to behold-a nice "Yugoslavian" style fist pump ,usually directed at the crowd or his opponents face.

Decent long kick and a nice straight lead for a mark which meant he could hit up the ball.

Helped that we had Lyon feeding him perfect passes.

None better than when he gave his brother a kiss on the cheek.

Pretty much won us the 1991 Elimination Final off his own boot against the Bummers.

Got pantsed in the first half and only managed a solitary goal. Came out after the main break and bagged 7, including a long one from near the boundary after the siren.

    TRAINING: Monday 20th January 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov
