I may be wrong  ( yeah...nah...never happens  )  but as things ( or people ) evolve  yo have your ups and downs until there just up and little down.

We all , almost to a member here , agree about 99% is between the ears. Its among the Grey cells that you kick in or give up. I dont think anyone would argue about his skills and ability just his impact, his preparedness to impose upon a game. I think its starting to emerge. It's stuttering for sure but its one thing to reset yourself for next week  as opposed to  kicking up a few cogs mid game.

This year may be somewhat more or similar to efforts in the  first  handful of games but I think from 2017 onwards we may have that magical 3rd fwd we need.

Poor in the first half - like Hogan just didn't seem switched on. That said gut run a number of times and players failed to honour the run to space.

I was impressed by his effort to turn his game around and keep competing. Sublime kick.

First half he was nowhere. His dropped mark was terrible, and has become a bit of a pattern. But then he worked his way into it. It was a weird game by Jack.

i lost count of the number of dropped marks we had today, in stark contrast to the dogs

and don't get me started on kicking skills, they carved us up royally on kicking accuracy while we played this crazy 20m zoning crap. either the defensive game plan is flawed or the whole backline can't or won't implement it. it leaks like a sieve. and crazily we stuck with it for 4 whole quarters

Why is it that every other club can find targets with kick ins?? Answer this shithouse Zone defence which is totally and utterly worthless. Again I find myself agreeing wth you Daisy Cutter. We Must need to lay man on man in kick ins and Force A 50/50 contest , or dont we think we can win these???? Oh Ok Now I get it! But do not agree with it! at all.!

Thought he had good energy all game, but his leads often weren't honoured in the first half. Played a very good second half (apart from that dropped mark howler). His kicks to Hogan and his set shots are top class. Any chance he can teach Hogan how to kick?

Not only three goals, but four kicks were to Hogan marks.

Too many others seemed to kick to an undersized Garlett in a competition.

Watts and Hogan have had an excellent understanding and while Hogan marked really well, the Watts kicks were to his advantage.

There will be room for a Hogan, Watts, Weideman forward line in the future.

Haha here he comes....

Ironically, it was you who stated his only criteria for success this year is goals...

Too harsh, he presented well did some gut running and got burnt a number of occasions and some of his i50 kicks were first class, took plenty on marks and was outnumbered at the contest consistantly like all our forwards. Every time the ball hit the ground in the forward half, we were going to be in trouble. Their zone is exaclty the same as ours and they execute it well. You're right that his goals were in junk time but it was deserving of his effort for the day. Lets face it if it wasnt for his past years there wouldnt even be a discussion.

Some would say that a goal in the third along with others at the 12 and 21 minute marks of the fourth could have been 'match winning' times to kick goals.  If every forward took their chances like Watts yesterday, we could have run over the top of them.

That is a pretty cheap shot.

Jack was terrible for 2.5 quarters but you could see him trying to work his way into the game. The turning point for me was when he ran around the man on the mark and delivered to Hogan. He was visibly trying to lift the side. He has his shortcomings, Jack, but he did what good players do and worked hard to try and impact the game in the end. Calling his goals junk time I think shows a poor awareness of where the players thought the game was poised at the time.

The Jack Watts of the past would have lay down low for the rest of the game and do northing. Fought the game out and was still trying to rev the boys up in the last qtr.

Hes getting there.

For me, his attack at the contest or ball hasn't been as good the last month.

He's still a very smart footballer. He knows where to lead, he knows how to clear space for his team mates and he's a beautiful kick, but he needs to go back to the Watts we saw against GWS. He was a lot tougher that day than he has been for most of the year. That's want I want to see from Jack for four quarters. He's played enough games now. No excuses.

Jack's biggest issue is his team mates.  My wife never comes to the footy with me and she commented on how many times Jack was the best option but we went back wards side ways and all of the sudden he is a mile out of position.

Jack is Jack, a very good lead up option, he will only every be as good as the ball coming in.  Unfortunately Watts can't kick to Watts.

Why isn't there a Tom McDonald is a spud thread.  Most unaccountable, inconsistent over rated player we have

Agreed.

I will not criticise how he had played this year. In the main he has been good.

The difference for me as we are now playing better attacking footy this year with more inside 50's so he is getting more opportunities. He got a lot of easy ball in the second half yesterday and that is not a bad thing.  I like him leading up, using his pace and getting chest marks and kicking accurately.

But in the first part of the year he was getting that same easy ball but mixing it up with some attack at the contest and getting some harder contested ball. The second part has dropped off in the last few weeks.

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
