GAME DAY - Round 16

Recommended Posts

It's good to be back at a home MCG game, our first since the Queens Birthday clash against Collingwood (for last week's game, we were the "visiting" team to the Bombers whose "home" ground is Etihad Stadium but go figure?).

This is the Lions' only game for the season on the MCG and they are boasting that they will be fielding their strongest team for the season today so it will be another challenge for Paul Roos and the coaching panel.

Roosy has stuck to his guns with team selection and persevered with the same 22 from last week, despite the consensus that the result was a bit of a debacle. He's clearly giving the younger members of the side who were a bit down on their form, plenty of opportunities to get AFL game time into their legs which will provide benefits in the future even if not in the immediate short term.

The weather should be good for football - no excuses today.

The lions have been playing reasonable footy recently without cashing in. Due for a win and we are the kind of team that might give them one due to our lack of resistance to a challenge.

Due to our lack of realisation we need to turn up mentally every week.

I'm usually fairly pessimistic but think we'll win today and win well.. 5-6 goals+. If we can break even in the midfield then we'll be right. Brisbanes forward line is horrible and there backline is just as bad. We should win and win this well.. Falling over the line in a scrap won't be good enough

I would take it. I'm expecting a 40+ point loss.

Off topic slightly:

Anyone know which jumper the boys will be wearing today?

Read somewhere that the lions are wearing fitzroys red and blue, does this create a clash in the AFL's eyes, or do we get to wear our home strip since it is our home game?

Merrett will try and rough up Hogan.

Jesse's been a bit down since his 5 goal haul v the Saints (understandable given his age and the pathetic delivery he's been getting) but hopefully today will see a return to form for him. I am really worried about today's game, the loss last week threatens to derail all the good work we did in the first half of the year. Roos has said in the past at times he's more a psychologist than a coach at Melbourne, well this has to be the week you earn your big $$$$ Paul because the players are vulnerable to falling into old mentalities.

We have to win today.

Shrinks make their money treating sick people. So I guess he is earning his money right now. Not making much progress on eradicting "old mentalities" though.

We will be wearing our home jumper, the only clash is the tiny brain bouncing around the skull of the f!og who allowed them to wear that jumper against us in Melbourne.

Funny that many posters don't equate the same malady when discussing Chris Dawes....

Currently enjoying breakfast in the city with a delicious Melbourne coffee. Unfortunately I think it will be the only delicious thing about today.

Have a lovely day!

Just popped out to fire up the HK and it's currently minus one.

I'm cooking hot dogs for brekkie.

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res
