I've not been a Grimes fan for a long time, used to long for the day he'd get dropped. Funnily enough I haven't had a problem with him in his last few games, and he gets dropped. Anyway, I'd bring him in for Garland.

Hope to see ANB and Stretch, hope not to see the Dean of Terlich.

No surer thing than us losing this though, I can just feel it.

I'd love to see Gawn take another step forward, here's a chance to dominate a game. I liked how he actually left the ground to attempt marks last week.

If our work rate matches theirs and we can sweep the ball more than two meters to the next player to negate their pressure then we should win.

Two big ifs tho.

Posted

Looking at these teams on paper, we should win and win pretty well. Then you remember it's at Etihad and everything goes out the window.

20 games in a row.

TWENTY ffs.

You are consistently emotional and without logic. Take a break

..says the guy who abused an interstate poster for not going to games.

Your constant hectoring of others is getting tiresome. Perhaps you're the one who needs a spell.

Wow a lot of negativity before a game. ...

Nah, you get used to it after a while. It doesn't mean anything.

For what it's worth, you don't have to count his post to me as hectoring. I was far more amused at his expense than I was offended ;) I literally LOLed when I read it.

Consistently emotional - I'll take that as a backhanded compliment, thanks I love my footy and my team. Without logic?? Again like last week lets see what happens. How many teams in recent years have taken in small defender on the bench into a game? It's normally 4 mids or 3 mids and a utility. If Grimes were to play this week I would of thought he would named on the ground with Cross upto the wing, Toump to the bench. He may well play I just don't see it happening.

wonder with all the injuries (specially compared to aints) whether c&b will be offering a gold pass to the team?

the gold passes are for players who actually play but do nothing, yet get excused because they've been injured previously. This week's contender is Dom Tyson. I am anti gold passes.

Wow a lot of negativity before a game. I will wait till we lose. I must admit I'm not confident but this is a very important game for both clubs. It would be good to get bragging rights over the Saints. I'd love to see us win this game and finish above the Saints. I really want to see us beat up Essendon and then see Hird get the sack! If we finish above the Saints, Essendon and obviously Carlton that isn't a bad result. We've been the worst team out of Victoria for far too long.

I think Stretch is ready to have a go again, I watched the second qtr of last weeks Casaey game and he was excellent, very classy.

Go Dees

You hang around here long enough and the negativity will rub off on you, so keep your posts to a minimum. I like your thinking tho feels like we haven't beaten the Saints in way too long. beating Essendon will be fantastic this is a must do on the Melbourne calendar.

Must win to bring faith to the fans

I don't think Roos is up to it.

One thing that made Geelong such a dominant side was its versatility. Players like Bartell, Chapman, Stevie J, Kelly, Corey ect could all rotate through the midfield as well as dominate in the either the forward line, the backline or in some cases both.

Why was he left out round 1 for Salem?

Posted

If we can win enough midfield ball then Garlett and Hogan can kick a winning score against this mob. Sounds simple but their backline is nothing to write home about and if we can keep Steven and Armitage relatively quiet then we are a huge chance.

McDonald was filthy with his game on Cloke last week and will be much more suited to playing on a guy like Riewoldt. He will bounce back and have a ripper!

Wow...everyone tipping saints...except Carey, Dermo, and cambell brown.

Carey always backs us, not sure why but I like it.

Posted

Can't pick Spencer, we're tall enough as it is. Terlich's done nothing to deserve a call up and we've seen enough of him at AFL level to be past the point where we need to 'check him out one more time'.

That leaves Stretch, ANB, Riley, Michie and Grimes. Can't see us picking both of Stretch and ANB. Assuming one gets a game (and that they both don't miss in favour of Spencer or Terlich), I expect they'll either be the sub, or be subbed off and Riley will be the sub.

I hope Grimes does well. Shouldn't have been dropped in the first place.

Posted

If Terlich plays then we are tanking.

Hope Terlich and Spencer don't line up and third one is harder maybe Michie or Riley.

Don't know if we want to basically bring in two debutantes though (Roos should know if they are ready - still must take some time to adapt though)

I'd say final bench:

ANB, Stretch, Mischief, Grimes

Respect, we want to earn respect - this is what our team is preaching.....

Well how about from this week onwards start [censored] playing 120 min of consistent, hard football that earns you this respect. Then carry it to next week, then the one after....

I'm sick of hearing 7yrs of excuses. JUST WIN!!!!!

Posted

If we lose this then it will be very hard to say we have improved over the last 18 months IMO.

It's a must win.

I don't care it's at Etihad and the players shouldn't either.

Enough is enough, for the love of god stand up and show something Melbourne.

I do not have a problem with this team given the injuries we have at the moment. I can also see Roos looking through the list with his selections in recent weeks to see what we might have there. I have no problem with Terlich being given a run or two at this stage of the season for that very reason. It is a chance to see how he has developed if at all.

Final bench for me would be Grimes, Terlich, Minchie with ANB as Sub. Would like to see ANB abd Stretch in the same side but I could see that one of them would need to be sub to replace the other in the second half.

There is a lot of flexibilty in the team with a lot of playwers that could be given a run through the middle.

Ruck to have Gawn backed up with Fitz in the back half and Pedersen in the front half. Watts sometime third man up.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
