Changes v Port Adelaide

We have a cracking win and some people want 4 changes. Roos doesn't like major changes even when we lose. Viney and Jetta if fit are definite starters. No way Tyson is right with just a weeks rest and his form wasn't great prior. When you have form players and you win you can afford to get him right. Same goes for Dawes and either way Pederson has shown more in the last two weeks than Dawes when fit recently. If Matt Jones is fit should play and play defensive role on Pittard. Different type of player I know but Riley showed more to me than Newton who again I thought was only ok when in possession so Newton out if Matt Jones is fit.

In Viney, Jetta

Out: Newton, Bail

A bit tough on Bail big red I thought he was way better than m Jones. No need to drop him just because he is a poor kick for goal.

Viney will probably go through Casey. That sort of injury means minimal running and you'd think he'd be a bit underdone just working on the bike and in the pool. Needs to get a run in the seconds first. Not a serious injury but he wouldn't have been able to run for a month.

I think Fitzy could be unlucky just based on match ups. Other than Schultz, which McDonald will take (and Dunn did a good job on last year) there aren't many other Power talks that would suit him.

Fitzy honestly shocked me with how well and he played and I couldn't be happier but I think he might struggle to get a game this weekend due to there small classy (when on) forwards.

Nev coming in is a must for a role.

Ryder and the Hoff...I wouldn't want to see Dunn undersized again.

Well, Cross came straight in last time... So who knows.

There is no Casey game this weekend which means he will not play before QB game

General comment:

As our 8 injured players come back in unfortunately it will be the 'depth' players that will be dropped.

The best 25 need to play together as much as possible to build the synergy all good teams have.

There is a bigger picture happening here and the team will be selected accordingly.

This doesn't help the 'depth' players who will only get cameo games when needed to cover injuries or to rotate young players.

But there is plenty of room in the best 25 for the likes of Spencer, Fitzy and [Pedersen] for a few years yet.

Ins this week:

Jetta has a good chance of being selected as he has been able to do full 'non contact' training.

Viney less so as his leg injury stopped him from weight bearing training. Sub maybe.

Roos said in his presser Tyson and Dawes are unlikely inclusions next week.

Outs this week: M Jones then probably Bail not because of performance.

Or whoever has the most niggles as Roos has said he wants the freshest, fittest team.

We will need the freshest and fittest as its forecast to be 29 temp, is a day game, maybe showers, with high humidity.

Energy sapping stuff.

Bail had 5 possessions and missed a gettable goal at a crucial time. He should be dropped because his performance was poor.

Any danger of Frost's 4-6 week toe injury reducing at some stage?

And I think I saw Dean Kent still 10-12. He was injured a month ago and I thought it was 10-12 then.

Reminds me of one of the opening scenes of Snatch when Turkish is asking how long until the sausages are ready.

pederson should hold his role no matter if dawes is ready. Frost would need a run in the vfl if fit. I think viney should even run in the Vfl also. If he must come in, its for matt jones, although I though Matt and rohan were both pretty lively. Some stuff ups but a lot of hard work. Nev could potentially come straight in.

I dont disagree just funny how how quickly we jump off.

Wouldn't have seen it after Round 4...

It's been Hogan's forward line since Rd 1, 2015 and will remain that way for hopefully a decade or more, but the role players around him have to know their place in this future. A smart player like Dawes, despite his inability to clunk anything with Sherrin written on it at the moment, will always be a chance to play in that forward line.

Pedersen is in a bit of form at the moment and I hope for his sake it holds, I don't mind having good players playing at Casey, even if they do; being dropped is not the end of the world...

Longest toe injury in history.

Not really. Turf toe in the NFL is often season over right there. I think Sandilands and Kreuzer have missed long patches.

It's a stress injury. As soon as they are confident that he's rested up and all the stress symptoms are gone he'll probably be 4 weeks. But until they get to that stage they need to go longer rather than shorter.

You nailed it BRFE. These are my preferred changes, although I'm not sure Jones will come up after the knock. Our Dees seem to be ultra cautious when it comes to head injuries. If Jones is out Newton stays in. IMO Viney's and Jettas form warrants selection.

Also those saying M. Jones and Bail played their "defensive forward" roles. Remember Viney takes Vince's tagging role and Vince then plays the "defensive forward" and I back him to do a better job than either MJ or Bail.

Roos said something really important in the presser - that he thinks we got the team balance right on the weekend and he feels that was a factor in the win, as every team member contributed.

So my guess is that he won't want to upset that team balance by, for example, bringing in Dawes & dropping a small, or dropping a defensive mid & bringing in an attacking mid, without a very good reason.

The Demons could have upto four inclusions for their trip to take on Port Adelaide in Alice Springs on Saturday. Chris Dawes (calf), Neville Jetta (concussion), Dom Tyson (knee) and Jack Viney (leg) are all expected to put up their hands for recalls after missing the club's 38-point win over the Western Bulldogs. Dawes has been struggling with a niggling calf complaint which forced him to miss games against Fremantle and the Dogs. But his looming return creates a dilemma for coach Paul Roos after the successful partnership of Jesse Hogan and Cam Pedersen yielded six goals against the Bulldogs. Jetta's potential return, after missing a month of football, will also be crucial as Melbourne looks at ways of curtailing the influence of the Power's dangerous small forwards. – Ben Guthrie

If Jetta's good to go he comes in. Anyone who is dropped from our win this week will be desperately unlucky but we have to pick best 22 when we can. Dawes on the other hand has done little to solidify his claim as best 22 when you look at Pederson's output the last two weeks. Viney is best 22 and if good to go is a logical swap for Matt Jones. Tyson is the same but I would be happy for him to have another week off, to me he's looked a little restricted so having another week to be cherry ripe for the Pies could be good for him.

Great problem to have, 4 (almost) walk up starts trying to force their way into a winning side. Is this how the Hawks/Sydney/Geelong have felt the whole time for 8 years?

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
