Well usually I don't, but this was his opinion of Malthouse as a person... and as someone who has no doubt had plenty of contact with him, I suppose it has to be worth something. That's why I wondered whether that could explain the blues poor performances.

look i don't particularly like malthouse myself, always thought he was divisive, self serving, hypocritical and basically a nutter at times

but there again, this could be said of many coaches including successful ones

but i don't think he was a bad person per se. he has often been seen to get the best out of his players (but also managed to get a few off side too)

never thought he was the right person for carlton given where they were at. always saw it blowing up in their faces

carlton should never have got rid of ratten, he was moving them along quite nicely, but the board and stakeholders were typically too impatient

as for slobbo being a judge of someone's character.....what a hypocrite

My 2 cents in regards to replacement coaches.

Guy McKenna or Brendan Bolton.

Thoughts?

Would either be so stupid? Seriously, CFC will have serious problems getting anyone to take on the job.

And as an aside, will Daisy hang around without his mentor?

Can't feel too much sympathy for MM. He's one of the biggest c-nuts in the game.

But Carlton ... why oh why did you hire this guy? He can coach, no doubt.

But they thought in their folly that they were going to add him as the icing on the cake and land them a flag within 3 years.

Malthouse doesn't do that. Didn't do it at the Dogs, at the Weagles, or the Pies.

He takes around 3 years to mould the team to his "way" and then shoots for flags.

They were at cross purposes from day one.

What can they possibly gain from sacking him now that couldn't be achieved at the end of the year?

Fetch the popcorn.

that's because at Carlton they've lost which way is up.... drowning in their own laundering machine. paper bags don't like getting wet.

Do Carlton fire him and pay him out - which Mick clearly wants, or do they save some money and continue their downward spiral? Makes the Schwab, Connolly and McLardy sagas seem tame by comparison.

Not really...we were much worse than this.

If they bring in Mark McLure to overview the football department and appoint the next coach then they will be close to par.

Carlton may be the current club that looks dysfunctional but look at the MFC going all the way back to Norm Smith. It is the way. It is the way when clubs are performing badly. Boards are made up of business types and professionals who like to use their power and influence. I suspect that they often conduct themselves in a different way than the way they would conduct themselves in their own businesses. They come from different backgrounds than the Coaches and those in the Football Departments. Running a football club is not the same as running their own business. Board members also are influenced by outside pressures and the perceived need to be seen to be acting in a decisive manner and are influenced by the short term pressures and demands just as many Boards in the business world. They don't want to be seen to be doing nothing, particularly when the club is performing poorly on the field. We live in a world that demands instant success and a world that does not like to wait. One that has no patience. Also Coaches have egos and pride and their own way. They are often idiosyncratic. Coaches and Boards never have easy relationships and often success just papers over the cracks for a short period before tensions arise. Norm Smith is the best example, although MM is the current example.

Yes Ernie that covers it.

I know we all want to be in the top four but in any comp there will be someone at the top and someone at the bottom.

The trick is have a competition that ensures no team is stuck permanently in the bottom couple.

The MFC Management / Board performed so poorly they ensured we were down for way longer than we should have been.

Carlton over the last few years have put in train a similar effort.

This latest lot have just increased the speed of the decline.

Carlton have been dysfunctional for 15 years.

Salary cap cheating, tanking (not saying we didn't, but come on), dodgy payment deals for players (Judd) and sacking the only coach that looked good after they missed the finals once during his tenure.

I wonder if there's a way in which us Melbourne fans can get together and brainstorm some ideas to help a fellow club out in its time of need?

Perhaps we can organise some player trades to improve their lists or some other act of kindness?

We could trade Bail and McKenzie for Gibbs & Murphy, is that the help you had in mind?

Hmm do I detect a note of sarcasm there WJ

There will be a queue Mono there are plenty of assistants who will put their hand up.

Daisy will be there the pay is too good and he will never get that money anywhere else in fact would probably struggle to get a third of his Carlton pay cheque.

and this is why we have failed since before 'the Red Fox' was sacked, because the people elected to board come from an environment were they pump warm air in one anothers ears, & say your turn to have a go.

time to stop taking our board members from that environment, & start to get a better healthier mix of business acumen that does not come from those elbow rubbing in the safe confines of the Olympic stand... this has brought us nothing but fails & years of pain, whilst other clubs that have their offices based away from the 'g' have a toughness thru the decades, & the success that comes with it.

our 'bad-luck' is bad management, & ours comes ingrown from within. & from a dwindling support base that has been kept out in the cold.

Wow mandee I think you are a bit high on the offer.

Some of our supporters complain that Roos isn't in the job for the long haul and took the role for all the wrong reasons....

They must be confusing Roos with Mick Malthouse.

Nobody has ever succeeded doing anything out of spite.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
