70 year old radio hack three sheets to the wind was overheard talking to a mate at the footy, Tony Abbots fight against terrorism.

Ah, the old "I don't remember saying that" defence. Just enough denial to avoid owning up to your own actions, but can still claim you didn't lie about it when it's proven you did say it. The ultimate weasle words.

Worked for Essendon. Drugs? What drugs? "We don't know what we took but we know they weren't illegal."

Is it racial abuse tho?

I would have thought it religious abuse.

If he called him a terrorist due to being Muslim it has nothing to do with his race. Just his religion.

He may well be a terrorist. How would we know?

I sometimes listen to the 3AW breakfast show (I've won a heap on the Rumor File over the years). Burns and Stevenson pander to their demographic - ancient rednecks. They regularly refer to "the Chinese" as the cause of multiple ills. Burn's alleged comment doesn't surprise me at all.

Posted

well if you read the previous posts you wouldn't have asked "Who the F is this guy??"

So to you he is what you call a "prominent media figure"

Right....

As you know Biffen, I am highly experienced in multicultural matters.

you will burn in hell one day.

If not, you'll probably be ok.

The do gooders in these situations show more hate and mental defilement than the original perpetrators.

You can say whatever you like talking to your mates and, provided it was quiet enough and not directed anywhere other than a private conversation, it should never have been made public.

Having said that, you have to be a bit of a dill if you're a relatively public figure making idiotic comments like that at the footy...

"Houli has been terrible, I said!" Would've been my defence.

My apologies to the meat industry while I'm here, I did call Mr Houli a butcher that evening.

A terrorist...or Ned Kelly with a tan?

After a long day at work I find it really hard to get emotionally invested in things like this. The Bali Nine, Bachar Houli, Chris Judd, Alistair Clarkson. Even the earthquakes in Nepal.

I'm so buggered and knee-deep in my own shitty life that at this point, if it doesn't directly concern me I find it really hard to care.

Is this what it means to get old?

Right....

stop being so childish dd36. i gave much more information than that

are you incapable of using google or do you just prefer having your hand held?

Is it just a coincidence that Demonland's own Mr Burns lost his prized jacket on Friday night and John Burns gets called for racial/religious vilification? Too much amber fluid (albeit mid strength)? Hmmmmm......

I don't care who he barracks for...blokes like Burns are so full of themselves they think they can talk s*&t and get away with it. Jeremy Clarkson is another prime example of an individual who drinks his own armpit excretions.

I think this Burns character should definitely be counseled and made to sit down with Houli to discuss the incident and hopefully get himself educated with regards to the inherent wrongfulness of such insensitive racial or religious stereotyping (and we should not be lenient in our views simply because he might be a Dees supporter). On the other hand, the dolt that brought this to the press' attention has managed to turn an idiotic and insensitive comment from what would appear to have been a private conversation between two people, into a full blown public vilification of Houli. Two wrongs will never make a right.

Has it been confirmed anything was said? Edited by Al's Demons

They can. Just not using their public soapbox, which it doesn't sound like he did. I bet there was a hell of a lot worse being said in the Bullring on Friday night - why aren't we analysing every single idiot comment that was made? He has every right to say whatever he likes privately, even if he is a [censored].

You say that like 3AW breakfast radio is a step up.

That is because it is even though the co-host goes under the non-de-plume Stevenson (instead of his real name Campbell), probably because of his embarrassment of being a Hawthorn supporter.

Highly ironic that Ross started his radio career on the alternstive, leftish 3RRR with "Lawyers guns and money". That was as a funny and interesting show, but he sold out to 3AW (as I would have, to be fair).

Does it matter now? Mud sticks and regardless of whether anything was actually said, Burns will be a suspect and Houli will have been made the centre of a "vilification" story whether he likes it or not.

Actually I think that "Lawyers, Guns & Money" featuring Donaghue, Banks and Campbell (Stevenson) was on 3AW.

Aaaaaaahhhhhhh!!

Hey Bitter, dunno what it says about me, but I enjoy Ross and John on the odd occasion that I hear em (and I enjoy your posts as well)

Certainly seems out of character. He comes across as a very decent fellow. No proof that he said it. Who knows what some eavesdropper misheard? Lets just move on.

He is a Melbourne supporter, but doesn't seem like a very passionate one.

Nope. Originally on 3RRR. I was a subscriber, and I remember Ross being interviewed on the 25 Anniversary of the station (I think). It was a must listen to show back in the day.

Listening to him most mornings, he seems pretty passionate to me!

Id like to think it does matter considering the climate we live in. One could easily say the story was devised to distract from the teams onfield performance(without Bachar's knowledge). That's the problem isn't it, mud does stick. Should this have been investigated more before going public.

I think John Burns used to post on Demonology and may have posted here in the past.

And a very intelligent poster at that if I remember correctly.

These allegations are all hearsay and I wouldn't give them much credibility unless something more substantive comes to light.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
