Changes for round 5

I love the idea of it haha (even though it likely wouldn't work as you have pointed out).

Terlich gets lost too easily, does a tom mcdonald run from defense, turns the ball over and cant find his man, he is hard though (like pig dog).

Who in our VFL side is actually a very good kick of the ball?? is anyone?

Bring that person in.

stretch and harmes, but they're not ready yet

Clarke will destroy Dawes.

What we can take heart from is that Ayce Cordy was annihilated in the ruck by Jacobs on the weekend, but the Dogs' midfield was harder, hungrier and faster, so it didn't matter.

Conversely, even if we even up the ruck stakes, if our mids can't match it with Fyfe/Mundy/Barlow/Neale/etc., our 'win' in the ruck will be for nothing.

That's not to say we shouldn't care, but given neither Gawn or Spencer are exactly in form right now, I'm leaning towards leaving them out and going in as we went against Richmond. IMO that's preferable to bringing in an out of form player (not how Roos is operating in 2015).

At least they make the contest and win the pill What biases are you speaking about BinK?

If that's your argument, Toumpas and Grimes won more of the pill. And if that's your argument, James Magner would be in our first 22 every week.

Unfortunately Jetta could miss more than 1 week. Hope he is back to his healthy self very soon. Glad to hear the club is looking after him.

I think either Newton or Grimes could be capable of playing Kent's role of a defensive forward, then H to play Jetta's role.

I'd say just bring in the two best performing mids from Casey which at the moment is Grimes and Toumpas.

Reading the v f l player reports

1 certainty grimes in

Second change if tall will be Spencer most likely poss pedo. Definitely not gawn

If small toumpas or Riley

RILEY RILEY AND RILEY!!

Until Toumpas displays an appetite for the contest and gets 3 BOG at Casey he shouldn't get a Gig!

This has to be a concern...

Rohan Bail: Rohan played half of the game, but was concussed, so he went off the ground a bit after half-time. For the time that he was on the ground, he was serviceable and played his role.

yeah i think that's enough. his health is more important than being a depth player. should seriously consider retirement

no-one can ever say he didn't give it his best shot

Agreed. We were all very disturbed to hear Daniel Bell after he left the game was experiencing headache's and symptoms consistent multiple concussions over the years.

Bail has had a fair amount of history with concussions, I hope he and the club are very wary of this for the rest of his time with us.

What's the need for a match against dockers?

talls. Pedeson, Gawn fitz

Strength. Reilly

Run. Bail

Potential. Toumpas

Wrong on all counts. The answer is talent, not physical capabilities. And you left out Grimes who is a lock to come in for Jetta.

I know this is never going to happen, but I'd like to see Terlich brought in for Kent. His disposal is iffy, I'll grant you, but he has plenty of hunger for the contest and tackles hard. If his primary job was to cause some havoc in the forward line (creating spillages that JKH and Jeffy could capitalise on) then I reckon he could excel.

Seem to recall that being tried once and it was a horrible failure.

It was tried in the game against the Bulldogs at Etihad last year and, yes, it was a horrible failure. Terlich kept getting "lost" in the forward line.

None of Saty's training reports or the Casey reports suggest Terlich has been training with the forwards or playing in the forward line, so I can't see why it would happen now. In fact, this thread is full of left field suggestions (Howe in the ruck, for example). The biggest surprise to me would be if Roos played anyone in a role they haven't been training for or playing in.

agreed, our stability/consistency is very important at the moment.. injuries have ruined it a bit but we should limit the amount of change as much as possible, that's why it should be Grimes for Jetta and Toumpas for Kent and leave the rest as is

Jetta is one of my first picked but Grimes replacing him isn't a massive loss.

Grimes can play, he's just been out of sorts for a while. However, the positive for me is that like Michie from all reports he has played well in the VFL and will have earned is spot in a team that has been playing reasonable football.

Grimes can't contest physically, can't stick a tackle and stop the ball, panics under pressure in fact a turn over specialist.Just what we need to replace Jetta!

Didn't bail cop a knock to the head af Casey last week ? If he did would think with his history he'd be out this week. If that's the case im going:

IN: Grimes, Toumpas

OUT: Jetta, Kent

Other 3 on the extended bench named tonight: Spencer, Jones, Riley

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
