Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

If jesse doesn't win rising star its a joke.

Cripps is a talent no doubt but jesse has made a far bigger impact, scalps this year include a couple of all australian full backs.

It's also much harder for a key position player to make an impact early on, alot of mids are able too.

Liam Jurrah is by far the biggest wasted talent I’ve seen in my time following footy. Such a sporting tragedy and an indictment on both him and Australia’s failure to support indigenous culture in a positive way.

Close but I will go with Jakovitch myself. Yes he did do his back but I think some hard work would have got him back on deck. He was a goal kicking freak with a poor work ethic.

From today's set shots it appeared he's comfortable kicking from 45 - 50m. Outside of 50m his effort affects accuracy.

Still pretty bloody good for a 13 gamer.

Was interesting to see him lead up to Stretch (?) just before the 3 quarter time siren, and get angry when he didn't get the ball, but good to see him go and give him a high-five after he missed the shot after the siren. I think he's just a really competitive kid who wants to kick goals and win

This, I believe, is all related to the confidence he has in his back and hamstrings. It's all linked. I have no concerns about Jesse's ability to lengthen his set shot kicking once his body is right. Until then, he's a beautiful set shot from 40-45m, on most angles.

ANB. I was surprised he missed it. He's been shown to be a lovely set shot.

How old was Jackovitch in his first 13 games?

Not sure if rhetorical but he was 23.

He kicked 11 goals in his 9th game.

I think the Hulk will need a few more games where he clearly dominates and kicks more than 2 or 3 goals. There's no doubting he's a rising star but I reckon the criteria will be heavily biased toward consistency. A few real eye-catching performances will help Jesse a lot.

And let's not forget about Gus, either.

He consistently kicks 2 goals a game. That's as consistent as a key forward can be, let alone at his age!

He's now kicked 1 bag of 5 and 1 of 4, so he is definitely a chance.

If he has another 1 or 2 games where he kicks 4 or more, he will win the thing hands down, if the selectors know anything about footy!

Agree with all of that however, my point was that if he remains consistent, as does Cripps, it will be the eye-catching games that get Jesse over the line.

Jakovitch was as lazy as!

This kid in contrast works his arse off and even took a saving mark down back yesterday.

This kid's part of a team, Jacko wasn't.

The rising star award is a joke.

First look at the judges:

Gillon McLachlan

Mark Evans

Danny Frawley

Warren Tredrea

Glen Jakovich

Cameron Ling

Luke Darcy

Matthew Richardson

Kevin Bartlett

Kevin Sheehan

Second, how on earth did they vote Lewis Taylor over Marcus Bontempeli?

Third, a lot of past winners careers have only been serviceable, Chris Scott (I know he won premierships, but a rising star and best player of his crop?), Michael Wilson, Justin Koschitzke, Rhys Plamer, Paul Halesby & Jared Rivers.

Fourth, there are a lot of misses over the years. Not many Brownlow medalists or Coleman medalists in the honour roll; only three have won a Brownlow so far (Buckley, Goodes, and Cousins)

Fifth, the eligibility criteria is all over the shop. Some guys have been nominated twice (Jordan Gysberts and Sam Blease stand up please). Although the list of dual nominees looks almost as good as the winners list.

So in my opinion, it will be OK if Jesse does not win the award.

Hogan has received votes in the AFL Coaches Association award for the 4th time, which is almost a third of the games he's played. Extraordinary for a first year key forward. And each time he's received votes from the opposition coach, not just his own.

Against Brisbane it was the first time he's received the full 10 votes to be judged BOG.

Hopefully he starts to get more penetration on his kicks as he develops. It's pretty much the only thing lacking from his game.

That mark in the last quarter was simply a thing of beauty.

Does everything think the not being able to kick 50+ metres will sort itself out? Like he even looks uncomfortable at times from 40-45m. I am not trying to put him down etc he is awesome but is this something that can be fixed easily?

He kicked a goal from just outside the 50. Therefore the kick was at least 55m.

I think he's sorted it out.

He had tight hamstrings a few weeks ago hence the reason he struggled kicking long.

Disengaged, couldn't be bothered.

I think it can be developed, get the right people around him doing a technique that will work for longer distance. Perhaps Neita could give him a few tips, or get Jonno Brown or Carey (both who seem to have man crushes on him) down to help him develop. I don't know that he can necessarily sort it out himself, but that's why you employ coaches isn't it?

It's most likely due to confidence in his body, especially after the injury concerns with his back, etc. He'd be rightly concerned about penetrating kicks and the risk it poses to his back.

As long as he stays healthy the confidence will sort itself out.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
