GAME DAY - Anzac Eve Game vs Tigers

For those planning to go to the game:

Extract from club email:

Premium members have a bay set aside, M36 on Level 1 of the Ponsford stand, where you can simply show your membership card to access a seat within this bay. The easiest way to access this bay is via Gate 1. We have also arranged a bar for you to attend throughout the game, with a similar set up to the Hassett and Ryder Rooms hosted by Mike and Ralph. ‘The Outer’ is located on Level 1 inside gate 1 and will be open from 5.30pm. Members who present their MFC membership card at the bar will receive a 20% discount for all purchases before 7pm. Players and a coach will attend pre-match, there will be a raffle and food & beverage specials for all members.

What classifies as a "premium member". Will reserved seat members count?

I don't understand what you mean here (bolded bit).

These days you'd obviously be wanting to make more than 100k from a home fixture.

Collingwood would probably make at least a million from each of their home games at the MCG and we'd be probably be making at least a million from the QB clash (the Pies also make a decent dollar out of the QB clash because of their high end memberships)

100k is chicken feed

Hey Macca. Usually support all your posts but I think MFC making $1m from QB is way off the mark:

- MFC members don't pay QB entry

- For CFC members who have (any) away game membership, Coll keep the money (as we do with our away games).

- Of the typical $55K-60k attendees lets say 35,000 buy a ticket at the gate. That is somewhere around $700K gross gate takings on the day. I reckon we would be lucky to come out of it with half that after all the fees attached to MCG games.

That is why I would suggest the QB game is now not much more than a bog-standard, stand-alone Sunday twilight game.

You may well be right too LH but the QB clash would still bring in a substantial amount of money compared to any of our other home fixtures ... especially those home games against the interstate sides (5?)

That was the crux of my 100k argument. Whilst we're making a pittance, other clubs are cleaning up

Of course, we've sold off 2 of our other home fixtures against interstate sides in the deal that we have with the NT Government (which I don't necessarily disagree with)

We might end up having to sell another game or 2 off in the future. 100k vs 300-500 k

I'd like to know that too.

I have a reserved seat membership but obviously not a "premium membership" or I would have received the email.

I assume our cheer squad will be at the Ponsford stand end and therefore that would be the best place to sit with a majority of MFC supporters?

Can't believe how long we are.. but I guess we were paying 9.50 last week and could well have won it

I wasn't expecting us to be that much, worth putting a 50 on it, we will wait and see which Melbourne turns up on tomorrow. Edited by Henrietta Lumbago

If there's a red triangle on your membership card that says 'premium member' then you're included.

To be more specific, it's Legend, Redleg and Trident MFC members only.

There are some alluring bets on offer. i took Demons 11.5+ at 6.50 and a punt on the draw at 61 (quite high for a wet game that I think will be close)

Whilst I don't think we will "smash" Richmond (contrary to previous veiws) I do think we will win and will tip Melbourne, not just because I barrack for them.

Getting excited!!! Struggling to work today (time is going too slow)!!!

I think with Richmond playing a few newbies means Brayshaw has more of a chance starting rather than being the sub. As for the sub most seem to think JKH or Michie (i have a feeling it may be JKH).

I imagine it'll be Michie due to lack of game time and 5-day break. JKH is not quite the "x-factor" some make him out to be. Contributor, sure, but hasn't really turned a game like he did against the Tigers in the pre-season last year. Michie has the potential to give us some real midfield lift in the 2nd half. Hopefully no one gets injured which would force him on early.

I think they should give us interstate members who make the trek down to the MCG the same treatment as the premium members, to ease the pain of the related expense.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
