Dion Prestia

Recommended Posts

Prestia is a class player, when he gets fit and a full pre season behind him he'll quickly show how good he is, an underdone and injured prestia was the best clearance player in the comp for a big chunk of last year in a struggling team.

we would love him at the MFC

Prestia is a gun. Pure and simple.

Those who deny this either haven't seen him in action or are playing down his worth in case we don't get him.

Any team would be considerably better with Prestia in it. I'd love him at the Dees.

Is he an inside mid? How many inside mids do we need? We already have ANB struggling to get in, who would Prestia replace? Would we move Jones to the half back line?

Yeah, why did the Cats bother with Dangerfield when they had Horlin-Smith struggling to get in? There are inside mids and there are quality mids. ANB is an inside mid, Prestia is a quality mid.

As has been mentioned multiple times in this thread, he can play inside and outside. Clearance machine.

Tell me. How many gun inside mids do you think we have currently? Viney? Tyson is coming along, but inconsistent to this stage in his career. Jones is okay... Vince on his day. Jeez, we overrate our list. Prestia is a proven player. A proven young gun. So Oliver and Petracca might/will get there, but Prestia walks into our centre square clearance team. Jones plays on the half back flank, as does Bernie. They're injected into the midfield when required, otherwise let the young guys go at it.

Think its fair to say after playing the doggies we stall lack that class and talent through the midfield. Plus it only takes a Viney or a Jones to go down and our midfield all of a sudden gets exposed big time.

Not having a go at you but when i commented on how uncomfortable Hogan looked when questioned I was shouted down. On this site , its ok to read in to oppo players body language but it seems a bit too close to home when one of our own exhibits the same signs of discomfort when being questioned on their future. I dont see any posters having a go at you Dazzle for reading in to prestias body language. Demonland can be a bit 'cultish' at times.

If you get shouted down just say 'Screw you guys' and keep posting your opinion.

You will likely find that the same posters who are 'shouting you down' agree with a lot of your other opinions.

But if you are going to have a such a thin skin in relation to some random people on the internet not agreeing with you then this place isnt for you.

The Melbourne Bigfooty boards are a bit more friendly and have some great posters, but it's too light on for content for me.

Surely there is a few youtube clips people could look at to convince themselves he is worth chasing... He would be second to Viney in 2017 as best mid.

If he can recapture his form, he's a more damaging player than Viney, IMO. His kicking is more of a weapon than Viney's is.

If we have any sense well still be going hard after 3 or 4 players. Dion may only just be one of them.

And will he stay on the Park?

Lots of ifs about this guy.

What are these "lots of if's" you mention?

"If he gets on the park" is the only one I can think of. And if he does then "yes" he is that good.

Oh, if it weren't for Viney's 2016 - a fit Prestia would be number 1 in our midfield but Viney has played 2 months of some of the finest contested footy and clearance work while still kicking goals and getting the ball on the outside and inside 50. He has been superb.

Ill put it out there...I think we're about the only club that could snag BOTH Hurley AND  Prestia

if we managed that ( alone ) in trade week  we will be adjudged  winners:)

If Dawes leaves his salary should go a long way to making that possible.

That would also explain why his (Brayshaw) best football has been running off half back or through the middle of the ground with raking long kicks to advantage. I didn't know this, but Roos would have watched him play there quite a bit. I wonder why he hasn't been tried there.

Given Angus' concussion issues, perhaps when he recovers it would be worth reintroducing him as a HBF.  His disposal and hardness would be very valuable, and he may be a little less vulnerable to further concussions at least less so than in the midfield clearances anyway.

Completely agree. Don't get me wrong. Along with Jetta, Viney is my favourite player, but still rate Prestia's best as a little higher than Viney's. But they're both jets. And they'll hopefully be playing alongside he each other, so the discussion is moot. ;)

This is not to say both guys won't become even better players with more experience, particularly if they've got each other.

I think it's a good idea. A better idea than playing him at half forward. Make him one of those inside sliders at half back. Do they still refer to them as inside sliders? Would be just about the perfect role for him.

Prestia is a lot like Jack Viney! he is an elite level inside/outside midfielder who can kick goals and works very well defensively! he'd walk in and be in the best couple of mids we have right away and would make an impact.

Those wondering if we have too many inside mids/not enough outside run, Prestia can run all day, no he isn't the quickest, but he isn't slow either.

Plus the likes of Vince and Jones aren't going to be around forever, the need to continually regenerate the engine room is very important. As already stated, quality is quality. we are yet in the picture to start picking and choosing, ala Hawthorn, for specific ready made replacements. We still need to just get quality on to the list, the worst it would do is create even greater depth.

The only thing needing to be considered is at what cost do you try and bring in quality.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
