What does Frawley offer that McDonald doesn't?

Speed, strength, less wonky kicking (not that he's great but he's better than McDonald) and slightly calmer decision making as well.

McDonald's a very disciplined solid player. But his spot a good team would be challenged due to his lack of skills - marking, kicking and hand-balling and also because he's just not that good one on one. He doesn't intercept mark with authority or punch the ball clear, he's not immovable in a battle of strength nor is he lightning and capable of shutting down the best when they get him on the lead.

I think McDonald is a much better mark than Frawley and his kicking is on par...Chip's decision making and kicking appeared to improve markedly with the better Hawthorn team playing against the Saints, McDonalds would as well.

That's right, I remember Martin did some good things down back. IIRC he clucked some good marks to stop the flow of play. Rate him much higher than Fitzy. Still, I'm a Fitzy believer, I love to see an underdog prove the critics wrong.

Is there a good 200cm key defender in the comp ATM? Someone's got to go up against the guys like Tippett, Daniher and (dare I say it) Clark.

I have always been of the opinion that Fitzy could be a dustin fletcher type full back IF he can read the ball.

Spoke to my daughter on the phone on her birthday. They both have to manage type 1 diabetes. To liken our players to turds is a disgrace people.

That comment reminds me more of Paul Johnson than Fitzy

Paul Johnson is a good comparison here. I was a fan of his when he came over and he had many of the same attributes as Fitzy, although he was bigger. He just couldn't translate good VFL form into good AFL form, something I think Fitzy will continue to fail to do. I just don't have any faith in him.

I take it you weren't referring to me (you quoted me) because that's not what I said, nor would never say about Fitz.

Frawley was useless. Very average football player. Tom McDonald is no star himself, but it is an insult to compare him to Frawley.

MFC dodged 2 bullets with Scully and Frawley. It is like the football gods finally smiled down upon us.

ATM strength, better kicking and decision making (though Frawley is not elite in these two). I'd even go so far as to say Chip is better at holding down the no1 opposition forward. It appears that the Hawks wanted a strong bodied back who would compliment Lake and allow Gibson to be more mobile and creative. Exactly what they got.

Jack Fitzpatrick 2014 season

Round 1 - 4 disposals 0 goals.

Round 2 - 4 disposals 0 goals.

Round 3 - 4 disposals 0 goals.

Some people have said he wasn't given opportunity.

Compare him to a Ben Brown from North Melbourne.

How much does/will Fitzpatrick impact games?

4 DISPOSALS 0 GOALS

Fitzpatrick is a crumbing forward trapped inside the body of a ruckman.

Any other surprises at training? Viney at FF or Hogan in the midfield?

Heard JKH was firming for a ruck position against Nev Jetta.

To be fair his first two games were affected by concussion. Was subbed out both times if I can recall.

Great move as one of our short comings is that we dont have a tall backman . Tommy mac and Frost cant handle the David Hale tippet types . I suspect that fitzy is being groomed as a back up though . Wouldnt it be great if we could send a resting gawn or jamar into defence when required .

No. Gawn is not a football player and Jamar will retire this year. We will need to recruit a new ruckman.

We should go after Tom Nicholls if he can't usurp Zac Smith this year. They are both guns and there isn't room for both.

Sorry Saty, can't accept these sugar coated reports anymore.

Many appreciate your reports, but after Friday night, nothing's changed.....just the date.

Keep up the optimism, son.

I hope you find a job soon.

A ready to go ruckman or experienced ruckman...and one of them wouldn't come cheap.

Tom signed a contract extension late last year.

Daniel Gorringe or Zac Clark are two i would chase hard at the end of the year.

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
