Melbourne v Fremantle @ Fremantle Oval - 5th March, 2015

Recommended Posts

Yes it was televised but unfortunately there was never a specific incident that revealed a 'cause of injury'.

This left it open to doubts of whether Melb FC had shown diuty of care etc. The game was in Alice Springs I think,

televised on Fox. But yes, Thursday night can't come quick enough.

The only NAB Cup game Hogan played in last season wasnt even televised. We all had to rely on 2nd hand reports of his injury too. it was brutal.

Thursday night cant come fast enough!

The Melbourne v Geelong match where he hurt his back was indeed televised. It only wasn't until around a few weeks later we found out from memory, I recall Damien Barrett break the news about it on TFS.

Was definitely televised. He kicked a goal in the opening minutes. But there was no specific moment that caused the injury, just a stress related thing as far as I know.

Watched that game. He seemed to move well and looked strong. Nothing to show he may have had a problem.

FB: Jetta Frost Dunn

HB: Grimes McDonald Salem

C: Lumumba N. Jones Newton

HF: Kent Hogan JKH

FF: Gawn Dawes Garlett

Foll: Jamar Tyson Cross

Int: Garland, Pedersen, VandenBerg, Viney, Michie, Toumpas

S: Matt Jones, Stretch

Emer: Bail, McKenzie, Spencer

I thought I would rather see all the new guys in the squad being given a run. (Bail, McKenzie, Spencer as emergencies)

I really like what you've done here. Game time to newcomers Frost, Newton, VB, H and Garlett. Some pace in the fwd line, one might miss out come round 1 in favour of Watts/Howe/Vince. Want to see how Salem performs off the hbf. Would even like Toumpas given a run on the other back flank for a qtr otr two.

Im willing to give the likes of Mckenzie Jones and Bail a go. They are senior mature players with experience. Especially against the likes of Freo we need all the experience we have.

Until someone like a Stretch or Brayshaw absolutely smash the door down at Casey then these guys get the nod for the time being.

Some players have been at the club for years, have done nothing and that warrants game time? I don't buy into "we now have great depth" but we have players who have the potential to be great players. So now it's their turn. Besides training and an intra club what opportunities have some of these players had?

Nev Jetta must be bitterly disappointed that he will have Ballantyne and Walters first up haha

Ballantyne and Walters would be the disappointed ones having to deal with Jetta.

I am suprised that stretch gets a run but harmes misses out, different players but harmes has developed more. (and so he should have)

Harmes (and also someone like Aidan Riley) are in a pretty heavy logjam of inside midfield/half forward types. Without Watts and Vince the numbers of outside running types are pretty low. Maybe Lumumba, Toumpas and Matt Jones as wing types. I think there's enough difference in the roles to justify the selection, not to mention that Stretch has looked very good.

After news that Viney won't be playing (and comments from 'Al'), i have restructured my starting line-up (from the 28 No. remaining in the squad) as follows:

FB: Jetta Frost Dunn

HB: Grimes McDonald Salem

C: Lumumba N. Jones Toumpas

HF: Kent Hogan JKH

FF: Gawn Dawes Garlett

Foll: Jamar Tyson Cross

Int: Garland, Pedersen, VandenBerg, Newton, Michie, Bail

S: Matt Jones, Stretch

Emer: McKenzie, Spencer

I still would rather see all the new guys in the squad being given a run. (with McKenzie & Spencer as emergencies)

Agreed. With Vince in doubt for round 1 a wingman spot is up for grabs. Will be interesting to see who takes the chances they get in Perth. I recon it is a two horse race Between Toumpas and Stretch for that postiton.

Freo haven't exactly named a weak squad... looks like they may be taking this a little more seriously than one might expect:

1. Hayden Ballantyne,

8. Nick Suban,

9. Matt De Boer,

10. Michael Walters,

11. Tom Sheridan,

12. Jon Griffin,

13. Tendai Mzungu,

16. David Mundy,

17. Hayden Crozier,

18. Luke Mcpharlin,

19. Connor Blakely,

20. Matt Taberner,

21. Michael Barlow,

22. Tanner Smith,

23. Chris Mayne,

24. Max Duffy,

27. Lachie Neale,

28. Brady Grey,

29. Matthew Pavlich,

30. Zac Clarke,

32. Stephen Hill,

33. Cam Sutcliffe,

34. Lee Spurr,

35. Michael Apeness,

36. Alex Silvagni,

37. Michael Johnson,

38. Jack Hannath,

41. Paul Duffield,

I really like this and I thought your last team was spot on, however after posting about inside mids on another thread I'm thinking we need another clearance player to start (assuming Lamumba still isn't an expert).

Michie or Newton on the wing instead of Toumpas and Toumpas rotates through there and HBF?

I agree. The likes of Jamar, Dunn and Garland didn't really become handy footballers until well into their careers, the players you mentioned are not so old that they should be considered to have reached their ceiling yet IMO. They'd want to get a wriggle on though.

Stretch is very light when you see him up close, I don't think he is at all ready for the big league when proper matches roll round

Jack Viney won't travel to WA with Dees .. Late withdrawal .. Left track, @7NewsMelbourne was there ... Details soon

I bought a new white training Guernsey this year with number 7 on the back and was planning on getting Jack to scribble on it today. :(

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res
