Pretty casual light skills training day today so not much to report.

Lamumba entertaining the troops, has them in stiches - looks like it's comedy hour.

I like ANB's allround confidence, and his goal kicking was impressive - could hear a nice thump each time.

Breaking the skills down and focusing on technique.

Kent reminds me a bit of Jakovich with his attitude - I think he likes the limelight and wants to be "the man". Fine by me just what we need.

Finished with a comp to see which teams could hit the goal post the most in one minute. Dunny copping a ribbing for every miss. Whitey & M. Jones did well and would you believe the the Ruckmen very hard to beat as a team. Maybe because they have a lot of practice at hitting the post. Speaking of posts, that's the end of mine.

Spare a thought for Jack Trengove. Still on crutches and in a moonboot, he's reall taking a pounding physically trying to get himself right against the odds.

I'm wondering how the medicos are monitoring the foot injury after his latest operation. Would anyone with medical knowledge or some experience with the injury know? How often do they take X-rays of the affected area to make sure he's healing properly?

I'm not sure about the frequency of the X-rays but I do know they seem to be handling it differently to when Garland did it. Garland was told to slim down and lose weight so there would be less stress on his foot when he began running again and slowly build the muscle back over time. From all reports they seem to be loading Trengove up in the gym.

I'm not an expert on this injury at all.

But it wouldn't be xrays, it would at minimum be a CT or likely an MRI to see anything. And I think being off it for so long and now in the boot there wont be much to see. I think there will come a time when the boot is due to come off and then likely another time when he might start back running that they will scan him to check that it's looking good.

I think the issue is that you've screwed the bone back together and then new bone is obviously going to form to some extent but you just don't know how strong it will be. So you could scan it all the time and in all likelihood you wouldn't see anything changing. Unless the surgery failed completely (and they've probably checked enough now to know) then it's going to take the same process of weight bearing and building up to running and increasing the stress until we find out.

I don't think Jack Watt's body is the problem, I think he has an aversion to pain. And by the way so do I.

Jack's fear of pain is more highly developed than most AFL footballers, I think he is too smart to allow himself to get hurt.

He will still be a good player for us, better as the team improves around him.

On Petracca I hope he is not like Anthony Bannick, (look him up)

After the last decade rjay I no longer get wildly enthusiastic about untried recruits.

I will admit some look better than others but experience tells us wait and see.

About the only time I would get enthusiastic about a new recruit would be if they reincarnated a Robert Flower.

That wont happen so until then , show me what they can do in a game, then I'll judge. Been burnt too mamy times.

We are well overdue for a change of fortune, reading anything positive from the reports is a good start.

Agreed - him putting on some muscle wont suddenly make him a good player (Fyfe/Cameron) but might help with one on ones.

I think I am like most dee fans - become increasingly frustrated with him. If he puts his head down yer he could be really good but until he does he will be mediocre.

Hopefully Dawes, Hogan, Pedo, Gawn, Howe etc putting their hands up/more competitive team might force him to attack the game more aggressively.

I wouldn't really call him a good player, I think if he plays like last year he may struggle to make the 22.

Him putting on some muscle wont suddenly make him a good player but might help with one on ones.

I think I am like most dee fans - become increasingly frustrated with him. If he puts his head down yer he could be really good but until he does he will be mediocre.

Hopefully Dawes, Hogan, Pedo, Gawn, Howe etc putting their hands up/more competitive team might force him to attack the game more aggressively.

Actually, I see it the other way around. I'm hoping with players such as N Jones, Tyson, Viney, Newton and Lamumba he won't have to attack the game more aggressively and instead be used as the finisher of those other players' hard attacking work. If we want Watts to attack the game more aggressively I think we'll continue to be disappointed. However, if we want to make the best use of his skills, we could be very happy.
