Saty here with my new user name for a new season....I still don't understand footy followers who don't understand.........try again

"if you don't get a full pre season in, you are immediately behind, it impacts your whole seqson

If we can get Kent, Tapscott (if he is still there), Spencer et al all through a pre season unscathed, this will be an improvement in itself, Nev Jetta had his first full pre season ever last year

Nathan Jones has been our model of consistency, why?, because he is durable and hasn't missed a pre season since he started

Yes but certain players never have full preseasons. Either their bodies seemingly aren't up to it or their minds aren't.

Probability says that we will have some players miss time.

We took a chance that Jetta would finally get a preseason in his 6th year after not doing so the first 5 times. It paid off. Delisting a player and making them train on with a rookie spot a possibility is a nice each way bet in that regard. It's why it wouldn't surprise me if we did it with Tapscott. I know Michie and Riley have had injury troubles and so a good preseason could see them spike in form. McKenzie, Spencer and Fitzpatrick are three others who would love full preseasons with the fitness gains but also just getting the skill work in.

Overall though I don't think we had a drastic number of injuries or poor preseasons last year. I don't think we will run out 5 goals better due to fitness benefits. But there's a few who are Jetta eligible. I'm sure you'll let us know who's out there early in preseason and looking confident and improved.

This is unbelievable..I'm not having a go but we are wishing he eases up on the contested stuff....

Not me...

Didn't say that at all - I want him to develop the other side of his game as well to compliment his hardball stuff.

It is not criticism - it would make him a more complete player

Garland had zero preseason last year and boy did it show.

It will make a huge difference if he gets a full preseason and gets back to his earlier form.

Welcome back, we were starting to worry.

I think what Viney needs to do is learn to get an easy ball.

He is always in the thick of the action but also needs to find space more and get lots more uncontested stuff.

Bernie Vince is the perfect balance of both hardball gets and uncontested linking in space.

You are correct Nut bean at the moment he is bash and crash needs to use a little Footy IQ and take his opportunity in space

I hope he is just not all bash and crash and he can show some greater skills this year

Nasher, I wanted a fresh start, hence new name, changed email address as well, I find most of pre season being the same subject discussed many different ways, had to post on this one, beggars belief that supporters still don't understand why pre season training is so important

Only based on gut feel, for me Riley has some confidence about him. could be an attacking run with type who is hard at it.

Reckon McDonald is improving each year and is starting to work out his own game and know his limitations like Jetta.

I'm rolling with the complete opposite type of player in Jetta and saying big Maximus.

I liked how last year he played a big part of the year in the twos where he developed his skills as a forward and showed some great improvement at clunking a mark.

Not sure whats going on with his rig at the moment. Is he having some any off season nip/tuck? Hopefully he isn't for once and is good to go right away and can get through possibly his first.

Quite happy for him to continue his steady improvement and play the third forward then backing up the Rush for a little bit each quarter.

I think he had the meniscus he injured in the last round operated on. But touch wood should get a decent preseason in. His knees and hammy's are always likely to cause trouble.

I think it's time he steps up and grabs the number 1 spot. Can't see either him or Jamar being good enough forward to play the tandem, and even less so with Spencer.

But I don't want Jamar injured or pensioned off either. I just want big Maxy to grab the position and dominate in hitouts and provide a target around the ground. If there's an opponent where playing both suits or if he needs a rest then bring in the Russian. But Gawn's bigger, faster, better mark and probably just as strong by now. This is his year to show it.

My man will be grimes to really take his game to another level he needs a good run at pre season to really spend time kicking and hitting targets. Jack has great leadership but must lead by impacting games and not costing our team goals with bad kicking. Jack will rise this season

I think he has all the attributes to make it except at certain times he looked like he was absolutely spent - ie - he needs to develop a tank. And he need to remain injury free.

One more thing I would like him to do in the ruck and I have mentioned it before. Compare him to Sandilands ( and yes Sandilands has much more meat on his bones) - the one thing Sandilands does is use his height to advantage - he stands up straight - put his arms up straight - he uses his full extension. Maxy at times is almost quasimodo like in that hunches and losses the advantage he has of being so tall.

I think Jack should be groomed as a tagger to replace Mckenzie. He isn't skilled enough to be delivering the ball out of the backline but is good at shutting down a player.

Never needed it personally but I did a lot of groin work in the off season back in the day.

and I spent ours in the middle over summer.

but i digress.

Jayden Hunt. We are starting to look ok on the inside mids, but we really do need some good pace and disposal in the outside. I know he hasn't been on the list long enough to need a career-renewing season like Nev, but he's a player we need to step up and get some games in. If he makes it we're going to be much better off.

I'll see your Jayden Hunt and raise you a Dom Barry

Whilst he doesn't get enough of it yet and can look a bit timid I love seeing him take off for a run. He is poetry in motion, with that Rolls Royce movement thing and can deliver the ball well.

Has been given him a two year contract so the powers to be must see something they like in him. Coming into his 3rd pre-season and should be ready produce

Is also wearing the No.33 which is a favourite number having been worn by Gary Hardeman, Sugar Healy and the Wiz.

I think I just convinced myself

The Toumps.

I really hope so.. The kid needs to dig deep and find what what attribute he can deliver at AFL that has a positive impact and exploit that. Pace isn't on his side, he isn't a hard ball winner. He is an outside player with great foot skills but no explosiveness. I'm a bit weary that those attributes aren't enough to become a great player.

Does a Toump and Salem beat that? (Be nice if they all had a break-out year this year!)

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
