4 year deal is spot on.

After that it will be yearly

Spoken by Demonlands very own clairvoyant, list management guru.

Absolute legend.

Now I hope the idiots around him help him see some finals action.

I've distanced myself from having favourites as I've become bitter and pessimistic over the years, but I love a fighter, and I love a good consistent player, which has even seemed like too much to ask for at this club in recent years.

I love Jonesy. I want us to succeed just for him.

Other than Marat and Marcos I'm guessing ?

Nice post DA.

I was so happy when I heard this news this morning. I thought jones would stay but until he signed u just never know. But seeing him on the news tonight and saying he bleeds for the club is just great, Plus he is also a really awesome guy. A draft pick that we did get right and a player that does justice to the number 2 jumper.

I'm trying to think if I've ever been more relieved by a re-signing. I remember being excited when Tingay rejected a massive offer from Freo in the mid-90s, but given the current free agency climate and our last eight years, this is huge. I didn't think he'd leave, but this avoids a whole year of speculation and trial by media.

In addition, after Melbourne barnstorm their way to the next 5 premierships from 8th position, iron man Jones will pass David Neitz as Melbourne's games record holder in the 2019 semi.

Very good day, but can we not damn others on the decision of Nathan and the club?

We don't know how much more the club wanted to keep some players over others and I have my eye on a certain free agent from another club that I hope doesn't do what Jones has just done.

Some players move, some clubs can't keep them, or don't want them.

Thankfully, Nathan and the club wanted what we wanted...

Very happy about this. Now I can let my guard down and totally invest in Jonesy, knowing he'll be here for the rest of his career. Good boy, Chunk. The new Robbie. Go Dees.

Article in the Herald sun now suggests we will turn our attention to his younger brother. Absolutely stoked that nate has signed on, fearless leader and someone showing as much passion as him is sure to lift his teammates in seasons to come.

The last few numbers me and my kids have had on our jerseys have left the club.

After that I took number 2 cause I loved Flower and liked Jones.

After today I love both of them.

Good on ya Jonesy.

Jones is a class above, .has the loyalty, team spirit, all I loved from our '50's teams.

A positive message.

What a relief not to have a year of the usual codswallop about whether he'll re-sign etc..

Good on you Nathan Jones!

So what is it 4 years @ $750,000 pa

Or maybe 4 years @ $850,000

Pretty sure it's a new 5 year deal with next seasons salary having been renegotiated (so big pay day for jonesy from next year onwards). He said as much in one of the interviews, can't remember if it's with burgo or the press conference, but he did let that slip that 2015 was reneg'd. My guess is an average of $700k over 5, so about $3.5m total. It's probably front loaded slightly given the cap went up & we paid the minimum this year whilst losing Frawley & Clark's salaries with only Lumumba coming in on decent coin. He deserves even more imo, not like we don't have the space, for now anyway........... :-)

Get down off the high horse and give me a bloody hug.

Gladly! ;-)

N Jones you bloody legend!!!!

Best news I've heard in a while, onya Nathan, you are a gem.

Loyalty still exists.

Up yours Frawley and Clark.

We're playing hard ball with Jones, and will lose him because of a sticking point of one extra season. Well done MFC! When he walks I'm done with this pathetic excuse of a football club!

Does this mean you're staying?

The last thing Sydney need is MFC pushing up the price of Zak Jones.

I think the salary cap issues will come home to roost at the Swans.

Hopefully we can land Zak aswell, have a couple sets of brothers playing at the club.
And a few sets of father/sons... A real family club.

Zak Jones must be a chance given that their midfield is already stocked with talent, an they are adding Heeney this year as well as two too talents next year (Dunkley through father sun and another one through their academy who is supposed to be top one or two in the standings as they sit now, both mids).

More than stoked to hear this news eyes even welled up a little. Well done Nathan you superstar

I think what the signing of Jones says , in a manner, is that we've pushed through the talk, all the rhetoric about what this club is about in terms of culture and direction and blah blah blah , and actually got to the point where the Club does actually represent all ( well, much of ) what its being pumped up to be. We're a decent club with prospects and a developing culture that should prove attractive to not only those already on board but those eyeing a starting, or next destination.

We're officially no longer a basketcase

Best thing about the article in the HS this morning was the statement that MFC Football department is planning to target Zac Jones next year when his contract with the Swans expires.

Posted

Might be nice to get Zac, if:

1. His 2015 fulfils the promise of 2014.

2. It fits in with the higher priorities of the trade/draft period.

Bridges to cross.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
