The only thing that goes against us drafting Lever is that he will be a longer term investment, given his knee injury and height would see him take a little longer to settle. Not the ready to go midfield type Roos has been going after (like a Brayshaw or Petracca).

lets see in the PSD any ready to go mids.

longer term is OK, if you have some short term remedies.

Enormous talent!

The kid captain Vic Metro last year as a bottom ager so it just shows the leadership qualities he presents something Paul Roos screams for. A huge endorsement from his peers.

He is probably the closest thing in terms playing ability to Nathan Fyfe where he is that tall midfielder who is very courageous in the air and can take a big pack mark. Has a huge leap him. He is cool and calm under pressure and shows good poise with ball in hand.

Don't pencil him in as a defender he will be drafted as a mid by us could make a big impact in years to come.

Very driven and determined character and for what its worth he was apparently close to representing Australia in Boxing so not only is he a very hard trainer he is also a tough nut!

A 194cm midfielder to go along with Viney, Tyson, Brayshaw, Salem, Kent, Michie, Toumpas, JKH has the potential to become a potent midfield in years to come.

Pretty much sums it up, would be pretty happy if we pick Lever.

As we are about to start our slow climb up ladder, its time to just take the 2 best players.... if next year or the one after one of our young players is interested in a trade out we can then deal for good picks to get back into it.

happy enough if we go Brayshaw, plus a Mcartin,,,, or whoever the best are.

The two best players at17yo aren't always the best players at 22yo.....

Just sayin....

Have to say, even though it was a year ago and less than 2 minutes long, his highlights video impressed me more than both Petracca's and Brayshaw's.

The best thing about it was there were no mistakes. But it could also have meant the Calder highlights producer just knows his stuff!

His highlights package are the best of this years crop imo. Clean, pure footballer who wins contests, great overhead & uses it really well. He's damaging & if we are into him as rumored I'm wrapt!

Id say we have Brayshaw and Lever as a lock. if Petracca slips it will be interesting.

FMD what is the world coming to, half of Demonland wanting to slit their wrists because Saints likely to trade Pick 1 so Giants can take Petracca. and I find myself agreeing with olisik, we take who is available out of these three

its going to be very interesting what we do, assuming the Saints take McCartin at pick 1 which they are likely to do now

Which two midfielders do we take at 2 and 3 out of Petracca, Brayshaw and Lever?

Posted

I'm not sure it's a lock that the Saints take McCartin. They're working to a long term plan. They'll get Membrey to replace Stanley (apples for apples). I can't see how their hand is forced so they 'have' to take McCartin, particularly if they rate Petracca above him. Talls are risky. Petracca looks a safer bet.

Maybe. but next years draft is supposedly stacked with midfield talent so this may be their best chance to get an elite forward prospect

Im not convinced we are done trading. If we are high on lever then who is to say we won't trade back in the draft with gws. I am keen on Brayshaw, anyone else of high quality is a bonus.

Saints today saying they will keep Petracca, I mean pick 1. Then again we know footy speak is based on lies.

I hope we try for slight downgrade of 3 plus 23 getting a good mid and Frost and still getting the player we want at 3.

Then we still have PSD and delisted players to look at.

When did Lever do his knee, anyone know? That is, what month?

Posted

Garry Lyon just said we will take Brayshaw, which the footy world would probably know and Wright. If we actually want Lever I wonder if that was said to get GWS interested in a deal to get the Wright pick, as GWS replacement for Boyd. If Saints keep 1 GWS could easily replace Boyd with Wright and MCartin.

An interesting 6 hours coming up.

Lever was back to full training towards the end of the TAC cup. Warmed the bench up in one game and sat out the grand final.

Did the draft combine testing so will be full training come pre season.

What's the point of hanging on to pick 3 to take a player that most people rate lower? We may as well have traded down the order, picked up a player or a later pick, and still ended up with the same bloke.

There are rumors that Geelong wanted to deal into pick 5 to take Lever, so I wouldn't bank on him dropping too far down.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the

Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’
