AFL National Draft 2014 Picks 2 & 3

Unfortunately Dawes is at best a 3rd key forward. He is that poor at marking that he could never be considered higher. As a 3rd tall forward and therefore often one out, he stands his best chance of multiple scores.

With Howe/Watts as 4th tall forwards coupled with Garlett/JKH/Kent crumbing we would be far more potent than in recent years.

Therefore if McCartin is as good as touted if available I would take him, as with Hogan we build the foundation of a good forward line.

If of course he is not seen as that good, well......................

The only reason for not taking McCartin or Wright is that there is already a plan in place to get Tex or Cameron next year.

That wouldn't surprise me - the current admin and footy dept think big,

And if we dont get either?

as to your assertion that you picked Wines over Toumpas - 1 -zip. You are selling yourself short. Every expert bar yourself rated Toumpas higher so the scoreline should look more like you 100% right -other experts 100% wrong . Well done ! You also wanted to select Newton who will languish in SANFL until death do us part. I asked all the experts on this and I am afraid that brings the scoreline back to you 1,000,00 million wrong - experts on par ( 100% wrong on Wines 100% right on Newton)

I will argue that Lever and Laverde may well be top 3 after a season or two - you don't know. Again Bontempelli on exposed form should be no 1 from last years draft but thats not where he was selected.

As to our most pressing needs - you can argue both ways - do we need mids ? absolutely .. do we need forwards ? absolutely.

I will state categorically that if Lever or Laverde turn out to be champs and McCartin a chump then we require Lever and Laverde. If McCartin turns out to be the anti-Newton then we desperately need him.

Ah WRONG my friend, show me where I said WE should select Newton !! I said nothing of the sort. Get ya facts straight!

What I did allude to was that I believed ( still Do) that two Clubs were sniffing around and that he might be required . But Not at Melbourne!

You show me where I said that and if you can ...

That's it I'll stop posting RIGHT NOW!! AND IF YOU ARE WRONG I EXPECT A RETRACTION AND APOLOGY!

oh and one other Thing if Paddy McCartin becomes a Demon . YOU, my friend are gunna LOVE HIM!

In GF Hale played little or no part (was he playing?), and you have the others in a nutshell Roughhead 193, Gunston 193cm, Breust 184cm. None of these are big hulking forwards!

I wouldn't say that to Roughie face-to-face ... :)

You're that one friend everyone has Picket Fence, that when they leave the pub you go home scratching your head wondering how you're still talking. Every Melbourne selector would've told you that after 2 years Ollie would've had a better career so far comparatively speaking to Jimmy, we selected the latter because they believe he has the potential to be the better player. Rhys Palmer looked a great player for Freo in his first two years too, a far far better player than Cotchin in his first two years.. Didn't have the body shape or endurance to play permanent midfield but low and behold, at the prime of career the class has shown through.

If we got that pick wrong, it wasn't the first and it won't be the last the club makes in the draft. Doesn't make your point scoring any less ridiculous though.

Ah, the insane love for Jimmy Toumpas and his might, could, should sometime in the future maybe !!!

Well let me let you in on a little secret!!!???

Until he gives a sliver, a glimmer of something resembling '"Game changer"......

He will remain another false messiah in the cesspool of failed draft picks!

As for the Robinson deal, Yep, Contemplated something BUT if you read all posts on him and not have your "Blinkered View" you will see I, in fact rescinded a possible Scenario!

Ah Destroy, best not comment too much I might dig into your past and find ..... Just a Tad more Rhettoric and Esoteric [censored]!

Ahhhhh that does feel better!

By the way let's pick Mc Cartin at Pick 2 ? Might just relieve some pressure valves

eh?

That fact that you considered it in the first place leaves you in the category of 'NFI'.

I'd rather a half eaten pie that had been dropped on the ground and then stepped on by 70,000 people leaving the MCG than Robinson.

And giving up #2 for him. Wow! Just wow!

But on Macca - I don't mind the idea. Big forwards that can lead are gold. Whether he is that man is to be seen, but I won't be upset if we call his name out.

And the difference with your insane love for an unproven, never played-an-AFL game 18 year old?

The more you attack Toumpas, the more you undermine every argument you have re McCartin. Though the only problem with that is that you don't see it.

Dig away, you'll find plenty of poorly hidden treasure.

Only I don't claim to be an expert and or compare my "record" with them. I'm not a delusional, ranting, contradictory lunatic either.

Does Michael Newton go on your record? Yep or nup? How does your record work anyway, is Newton a fail because he's not on an AFL list and he was terrible, or is he a win because you know more than the experts?

Also, when Jimmy Toumpas easily plays more AFL games than Michael Newton, will the world explode?

Ah the fact that Michael Newton Played at least 1 game at the highest level means he made the grade. Clearly you don't see that!

Any way dig away my friend there may be gold and if you did deep Enough you might find more than the Alluvial kind!

Oh, and by the way I mooted a deal that included Mitch Robinson and several other players as well.! I never said anything about trading him for an outright pick 2 Dreaming!!

By that stellar logic, Toumpas has made the grade too then.

Phantom draft in Sun today has a little twist on each pick, they have selected. On Brayshaw it just says, "no twist, just pick him".

Pick 3 they select McCartin and say Lever is the danger, but then they select Lever at 10 to Cats. Therefore if we don't take him, they are suggesting he will slip to 10.

I'd prefer not to take Lever but the jungle drums are beating loudly about him.

The same source that informed me mid season that Boyd was leaving GWS has stated a couple of things re Lever.

- up until the knee, he was right in the frame as the top pick, and the best "tall" in the draft.

- the knee has healed 100%

- Melbourne are very keen on him however he can't tell me if they are keen enough to use 2 or 3 on him.

In the last 2 years I haven't seen the current coaching and list management panel make an error in a selection or player they bring in. There is no evidence presented not to have complete faith that the players they choose will help build Melbourne back towards a strong team.

So if that means Brayshaw Lever, Brayshaw McCartin, Petracca Brayshaw or some other machination then I will back then to the hilt that they are the best choices for us.

I think the biggest concern re taking Lever is:

- James Frawley, AA FB, had a few lean years but still pretty consistent top liner, free agent, gets a 4-5 year 600k a year deal

- Tom Boyd, 9 games, most of them ordinary, gets a 7 year 7 million dollar deal and traded for a club captain AND pick 6

A good forward is always harder to find that a good key defender.

I wish I had seen more of Lever so I could judge just how much he's likely to impact games. Even the best stopping key defender isn't that valuable. Rebound and intercept marking is the only way he'll be valuable and we haven't seen him do that for an entire year. He clearly could do it as a 17 year old, but I'd like to see him do more under pressure of the Under18 champs as a top prospect etc.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action.
