A smart arse comment by Ross Lyon on Nine News, saying "Mitch who, what is his name". Then the reporter said "Clark" and he said "oh, he had a chance to come to us and didn't want to".

Pretty ordinary and the guy is suffering from a mental illness, by the way.

With trademark darting eyes and vindictive tone.

This on the back of his threatening to rip someone's throat out for patting him on the back.

He looks to me like a coach feeling the pressure of September with his backline crumbling and his premiership window closing.

Hey Redleg, if Mitch is suffering from a mental illness such that it would be aggravated by Ross Lyon on TV, then Mitch should not be considering a come back.

Looking like he has zero value around the league and thats understandable

Rookie list spot at base salary for you Mitch, or you can go play in the WAFL or take black and white photos of trees

You owe the MFC, we dont owe you [censored]

But he gave us the opportunity to upgrade a rookie like Nicholson. Of course we owe him

He looks to me like a coach who might know a fair bit more about the situation than we so. He and Roos are very good mates, can't imagine PR (if he's "furious" as GNF indicates) wouldn't have talked to a few friends about the situation.

Mitch's smart @r$@ manager may have irretrievably damaged Mitch's image and ability to pull big dollars. I believe the MFC would have continued to honor its 4 year contract with mitch at the now insane $750k per year, that would have at least given him a chance next year to prove his value before contract renegotiations at the end of next year. Now he is a broken toy that walked away from us with a pocket full of $$'s in the hope that he could then walk into a new contract with a better club. Unfortunately for him, few clubs will want him and I suspect none would be willing to pay him the sort of money that he would have gotten at MFC.

Any spot on the melbourne list would presumably have a performance incentive in there, i.e. he plays and plays well he gets more $$'s. It will be interesting to see where he ends up, also if his manager gets his contract renewed also.

Ross Lyon too? May explain his general demeanor and recent behaviour.

if we missed out on a player and Roos said that we would all be kissing his backside

I think Roos has too much class to say anything like that.

It wasn't a comment about Mitch, it was about Ross Lyon being a smart arse.

I find it amazing posters who demand, and expect, loyalty from players - yet turn on them at the drop of a rumour, viciously so in many cases.

Truly amazing, to the extent of it being bizarre.

Why would we not be interested in him? Why is every journalist in Australia so sure he won't be playing with Melbourne next year?

We can get him without a huge draft pick sacrifice. We have money to spend, He has expressed his love for MFC and 12 months ago the coach said he was our best player.

Granted he has some issues both physically and mentally, but for the once loved player in the change rooms, I don't understand what has changed.

the coach has changed and the administration has changed...

If it comes to a trade for Mitch what sort of value would we be expecting for him? i'd hope for a pretty solid player or pick in return

Hope you like the third round talent this year!

Who knows, maybe we'll find another Kent or JKH.

Has anyone consider the problem of one ordinary foot!

Before he pulled the plug in March he had again broken down again admittedly with another hamstring injury.

There is IMO a good chance his body is not up to AFL pressure.

the chances of him making a succesful return to AFL are low IMO.

He is no good to anyone now.

may have to sit in the pocket for a few games on rookie match payments.

Only fair since we payed him well when he was with us heart and soul.

Offer him to Richmond for Anthony Miles, if it comes of they get a star forward they desperately need, if not we get a quality young mid

True, but we can expect more of that for a few years until we all get used to FA. After that, when all questions of loyalty have become irrelevant, posters won't be upset but will just expect players to do the dirty on the club. Sad really.

Your joking right?

Do you honestly think Richmond will give up a up and coming star who dominated in his first year who just a new two year deal for an injury prone forward who has played 15 games for 3 years?

Far out people common sense please!

would be like Freo offering us Scott Gumbleton for Dom Tyson

People need to stop saying that he 'fills a need' for certain clubs, and that we should receive a quality player in return.

Through personal connections with Mitch, I know for a fact that his doctors informed him (after his ill-fated comeback attempt in 2013) that there was less than a 30% chance of him making a comeback - effectively citing that less than three out of every ten people who suffer lisfranc injuries regain full functional capacity.

Couple his unproven physical health with his well-documented mental health issues (trust me, they are legitimate), and you have a player that, despite his very obvious talent, holds minimal trade value. AT BEST I see us bringing in an early third-rounder from a team crying out for a forward (I.e. Doggies). Even then, they would likely only be receiving a player that makes them look better on paper.

I don't see his career getting back off the canvas if he tries to come back. As much as I liked Mitch as a person (have fallen out of contact recently), I hope it's another club that gets sucked into believing otherwise.

If that's the case, he's done us a favour, even though he's seemingly 'screwed us over'.

Probably not, just spitballing, we wouldn't get a star but I think the potential upside of Mitch did get right gives him some value

Hate to say it, but Mitch is worth bugger all on the trade table. Injury prone, depression, barely played a game in two years, f'wit of a manager. This is what club recruiters will look at, unfortunately, too many ifs and buts. Wish him well, but it's no Peter Hudson in a helicopter comeback.

this bloke is potentially a lot better than most are suggesting, he never had mental illness so no issue there. being a little upset over having a sore foot doesn't count, but the sore foot itself is a genuine concern, so it comes down to the price he puts on his head. i think he'll be looked at for around 300k/400k depending on length, what band does that give us in return?

Fremantle parted with Pick 55 to get Gumbleton. Even with history of mental illness you can't tell me clubs won't pay more for Clark.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
