Paul Roos signs for third year

Recommended Posts

I need to go on holidays more often. Last year in Italy, I visited so many churches, lit candles and prayed Paul Roos would coach our club. ( and i am not even Catholic!) It was announced the following week!

I am currently in Mexico - it's Monday morning and I just read the Age online - about to cartwheel with joy down the beach at this great news!! go Dees.

Im not sure if this is accurate in anyway, but I was told that he was into some drugs, cheated on his wife and when he left geelong, they were actually giving him the flick. The source is not particularly credible. Is that accurate at all?

I can neither confirm  nor deny

Great news ... Paul will need at least 2 more off seasons to get our list up to shape.

It's ages away, but entering 2016, we might even be a contender for a top 4 spot (if everything falls into place) Next year, we need to get as many wins as we can and be pushing for a spot in the 8.

A fit Hogan and 3 more topline midfielders and watch us climb the ladder.

I wonder if this news has some effect on Frawley's decision? I'm holding out hope that James stays because we need him (in my opinion) Otherwise ... we may need to use a pick that we'd ordinarily use on a midfielder on another KPP.

Earlier this year I couldn't blame Chip for leaving after the club being so toxic in recent years. The inroads made and the stability this year should go a long way towards Chip resigning. I think the ball is now in Chips court.

If the source is not accurate then this is pure speculation... and as it is very apparent who is being discussed, then your post could be considered defamatory and probably should not be here.

The club is clearly wasting money on Peter Jackson when all it needs to do is pay for your holidays.

You can search Bomber Thompson, Geelong, pregnant, Kent Kingsley, wife/girlfriend etc, receptionist, there is a treasure trove of rumours out there.....

According to footy classified PJ does want to remain CEO. Isnt it good people actually want to stay at our club.

Interesting in the age today they had a list of coaches and when they finish out of contract Clarko finishes in 2016. Maybe he will have achieved all he can do at hawthorn. He wouldn't be a bad successor.

I heard a whisper PJ might Ink a 3 year deal very shortly, but like Roos it sounds like that would be it, they want to hand this club over ready to play finals and be successful, and make sure it can't go backwards.

To (badly) paraphrase Mick Dundee:

'that's not a succession plan, THIS is a succession plan'

We don't want that [xxxxxxxxxxx] anywhere near our club.

Speak to the Geelong ppl about him.

Failed in his duty at Essendon.

Should never be near a club again.

Geelong club people, Geelong players or Geelong supporters?

I can see how they might be unhappy with the way he left, or could use him as a scapegoat for Ablett leaving, but beyond that I don't think there's much angst over him, yet there is acknowledgment of the great things he did there.

I agree the rest seems to be scurrilous stories based on next to no evidence.

I once visited Guadalajara for work many years ago. Made the near fatal mistake of ordering an omelette with the lot for my first breakfast which reminds me of a joke.

Q; How does a Mexican know when he's hungry?

A; When his ring stops burning.

not shocked or even surprised. Pleased though. The timing is interesting. Thought will have gone into when they chose to announce it. I suspect they want to create a good vibe in the playing group to maximise the chances of winning sat night

I think we're at the stage where it is best that his presence in the 3rd year is made known publicly, for the purposes of recruiting players and successors.

I doubt many prospective successors would be too keen on only a one year apprenticeship and then jump in the deep end.

Now that is a miracle

Dream a bit harder, OD -- how about the Dees win the Grand Final by 100 points in 2015 and Jack Watts wins the Norm Smith medal ... I think that would qualify ... :)

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
