Very strong mark and his forward pressure was actually quite notable at the ground on the weekend with some great second and third efforts. Holds his own in the ruck and is much better in the ruck than his competitors in Frost and Dawes. I have him a fair way ahead of those two for now.

From ducking his head in his first year, to courageously running back with the flight against Richmond when the game was already sewn up - I'm so happy for this bloke that he's developed and taken his opportunity.  Gives his all - you can often see him waddling exhausted just to somehow will himself to the next contest.

Half forward is a massive hole for us, so without him we'd be stuffed.

I said to my son as we watched the game Saturday that we needed a concerted 10 minutes of ruck work from Pederson each quarter too give big Max a chop out and a bit of a breather. He doesnt set the world on fire in the ruck but he won half a dozen taps and always made a contest. What hes doing is helping the team enormously. Well deserved place in the team.

Live how he made Malceski earn that mark with a crunching bump. Actually surprisingly there was no 50m paid.

My biggest fear is that the coaches dont get sucked in by 'buckets' Dawes after 1 game in the VFL.. He needs to at least kick a few bags and show he has improved his marking.

My son actually admitted to me yesterday that he cannot believe the transformation with CP and wished he was still back at North.

got hounded down by the usual suspects for saying this bloke was as good if not better than Dawes and at half the pay, even though the stats supported my claims.

Got hounded down last year too mate so that makes two of us. When Pedo is up and firing like he is now he adds much value to the team then Dawes.

I doubt he will ever kick a bag of goals, but he puts in every week and knows that he has to, to keep him spot in the side.

When we first talked about getting him I was against him, but he's turned it around, he's not fat anymore and he shows courage in the contest. He has a few years left in him and seems determined to make the most of them.

I tried that for awhile but as he is 6ft 4 and no longer lives at home, I gave that idea up. Wayne Carey came to his school when he was about 8 and I had no chance after that.

I do still have a photo of him not long after he was born in his Melbourne jumper. You cant say I didn't try....

When they are both at their best - Dawes is better.

But Pedersen is fit and in form - and selection always leans toward those two traits.

You'd think so wouldn't you, yet Roos will always play Lumumba and Dawes regardless of both form and fitness. I fully expect to see Lumumba in the senior side this week, irrespective of the team's performance on Saturday and his own putrid form.

He is another player (Jetta, Watts spring to mind) who have developed perhaps unexpectedly under Roos / McCartney.

Let me help.

You go early and you go hard.  You get some wrong and you get some right (like all of us).

In my own way I was just pointing out you don't get them all right and was a particular reference to your post about a double dose for Hunt. BTW, I'm eating a bit with Hunt too and a double dose with Wagner.  It's a common dish around here (and in FD's I might add).

With Weidman presumably coming through the system for a few appearances this year and hopefully regularly from next year, I am really glad that Pederson is versatile enough to also make a home down back (where we really need dependable talls) and chipping in at the ruck contests.

I really hope he continues to be a solid contributor for enough season to make his 100 games (needs 42 more), and would love him to get to 100 in Red & Blue (another 16).

This season and two or three more, is that a reasonable hope for a 29yr old, versatile, late-blooming tall?

Dawes best is our best option - his problem has been he just cannot get his body right since he got to the club so for now it will be fit and in form Pedersen. 

I think a fit and healthy Dawes might like playing in the forward line at the moment ( sigh....fit and healthy....)

His initial 3-year deal that Neeld gave to him was ridiculed for a long time. Most people wanted him delisted after one game and couldn't even begin to fathom having him around for three seasons. As it turns out, he's going to hang around for 5-6 years. Crazy Neeldy gets the last laugh here!

Even if fit, I don't think that Dawes is our best option with our more attacking gameplan. For starters, most of our ball movement is generated through the centre corridor, and Dawes tends to lead to the flanks. He can't play as a 2nd ruckman, and I don't think that he can apply much forward pressure. Hopefully he can help Weid down at Casey.

Not so sure, as we definitely need someone who can / will do some ruck work. 

Were Dawes to replace Pedersen who would you have play that rôle? Not Hogan. Not Watts.  Who?

Well .... given your other dubious family connections Jane you cannot be entirely exonerated, however, this can also be added to the list of things that Carey has to answer for.

Watching the replays of our wins this year, I took note of Pedo and Frost in particular. The thing that stood out is how underrated Pedo's forward pressure is. Frost, even by me, gets talked up as adding great pressure, and he does, but Pedo's pressure has been fantastic, and his tackles and bumps in the forward line have lead to far more goals than Frost has contributed to. 

Also his speed and fitness have been really impressive.

I'm glad threads like this are giving him the recognition he deserves for his hard work.

My brother is a north supporter too.

He said they're lucky they got Ben Brown, otherwise losing Pedo would have hurt given his current form.

I have always admired the way Pedo goes about it after the first practise game he played under Roos. His career was on the line. He ran himself into complete exhaustion that game. He wants to succeed in this team. Rough around the edges...Yep. But never gives up even late in the game.
