I personally can't see how he can be cited. His bump made no head high contact. The concussion came from a head clash from another player. not Viney. Sad for both players who were injured, but just one of those things. It wasn't a bad bump.

I didn't think Viney made contact but after rewatching it many times I think you'll find his right shoulder makes contact. This can be seen watching the footage where we see Viney from behind. Having said that it was in play, he was after the ball realised the situation and braced himself. It should be thrown out but the whole system is a joke, so who knows.

This will.be a real test of the MRP, I reckon. Viney didn't go hunting a hit it just appeared as a genuine contested ball situation. Will be an interesting adjudication. I have zero faith in the AFL let me say.

Accidental doesn't matter with high contact, hence the outrage at the Fyfe ruling in round 1.

I watched it again and the Nat Fyfe bump again numerous times and now I am actually a little bit more confident that JV may get off, Fyfe had a little bit more time to either execute a tackle or a smother.

You still never know with the MRP but leaning towards accident that was just a hard contest where fate played a part

I understand your frustration jnrmac, it frustrates me too but the rule is pretty black & white these days. If you choose to bump you suffer any consequences.

My point is that the Adelaide player didn't bump or brace himself which you would reasonably expect him to in the circumstances. What was Viney supposed to do with two players bearing down on him? Stop? Run away? As it was he 'braced himself' which I would argue is different to the 'if you choose to bump' rule.

If he gets pinged it will be because the Crow player didn't brace and I think it would be wrong..

Ricciuto's probably worried that the AFL will make the MRP act retrospectively. If so, he'll be suspended for about 2 years.

(Note: I have great admiration for Ricciuto. It's just the way the game was played not that long ago).

Pull your head out of the sand. Caught any bump issues at the tribunal this year? The incident is going to have severe scrutiny. Hopefully they find it was shoulder to shoulder and legal. But I have little confidence. The MRP see injuries and look for suspensions.

it was shoulder to shoulder initially, until inertia forced contact between shoulder & head, then lynch & georgiou head clashed. this is what did the damage to both.

so should Georgiou be suspended for being irresponsible in that he was too close behind causing the headclash or was Lynch irresponsible in his attack on the contest ?

I know its semantics but I have looked at Viney's attack on that contest and I don't think his sole intention was to bump. It happened so quickly it looks to me like he was going flat out to the contest ( does he know any other way ?) and saw bodies coming and braced himself for contact rather than making a bump his primary mission.
