Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Can't imagine he'd get 4.

If they thought it was worth 4 that's what they would have given him.

I can really see each side of this debate, but feel anything more than 1 week would be very unfair.

I think our best hope is to argue that the initial bump was totally legit (assuming there was no head-shoulder contact) and a player can't be responsible for the unexpected, namely the presence, position and timing of Georgio's head.

Do you get rubbed out if after a perfectly legitimate bump, the bumpee's head hits the ground and breaks something? If not, then why should you get rubbed out if he hits a moving target?

Trouble is, the AFL's answer to the first question is probably 'yes'.

Jack did what he always does. He saw the ball and wanted it. Im sorry his jaw got broken but it was an accident. Its not like he just raised the elbow an flattened him. Did Kennedy get suspended when Sylvia got his jaw broken. No nothing happened. Now these days because there is an injury then the afl deem it must be sinister.

Its footy my god.

It seems we have a lot of media people onside.

If Demon Jack Viney @jackviney7 is suspended for his unfortunate collision against the crows... then AFL footy is officially stuffed. From Quarters

AFL tribunal has to throw out Jack Viney hit. Bump. Mark Robinson

I hope someone tells us what Roos has to say about it on 360 tonight.

Jack Viney referred directly to tribunal for Lynch collision. Georgio head clash was reason for broken jaw #accident #clanger. Tredders

FWIW just about every commentator and reporter is saying it was nothing more than an accident. I don't have any faith in the MRP though.

MRP = makes random pontifications

There is a difference between choosing to bump and protecting your ribs. Viney did the later and there was no intent to hurt.

Straight to the Tribunal.

Jeeeeesus Christ!!!!

This is typical Melbourne bashing!

Viney's shoulder broke the left side of his jaw.

He will be rubbed out for 3-4 weeks and might get a reduction for a clean record.

You can't choose to bump, break a guys jaw and not be expected to be rubbed out

IMO he didn't choose to bump - rather chose (in a millisecond) to turn and brace for the upcoming inevitable contact, which, had he not, may as well broken his jaw.

Surley any ruling must take into account:

- what reasonable alternative did he have?

- what role the fact that the victim fell into his path?

- Lynch 191 cm, Viney 178 cm Viney didn't jump from the ground prior to contact. Therefore the shoulder to jaw contact only occurred because Lynch fell / was pushed into Viney's path. How could he therefore avoid the high contact???

- is it incontrovertible that the broken jaw was in fact due to the Viney contact, rather than the rebound impact with Geourgiou's head? Beyond reasonable doubt, which criterion seems to apply to most other teams (though the Moloney / Bartel decision seems to have been made on balance of possibilities!)

Still I have absolutely no faith in the integrity of the Tribunal, nor anything else the AFL does for that matter. None whatsoever. I suspect he will be gone for a few weeks.

Can the fact that he himself has suffered a broken jaw be taken as mitigation in as much as he didn't want to take the impact from the falling opponent face on???

What if you lay a perfect bump, that goes nowhere near the head, yet you shatter someone's rib cage and puncture their lungs or worse?

Nothing would happen I suppose.

Why wasn't Dawes sent there for a forearm that broke Jaensch's ribs?

Yet an accidental bump on the head is off to the firing squad.

What side of the face was Lynch hit breaking his jaw. If right side then Viney would have to walk immediately.

Look at Viney's bent knees during contact in the Age photos bringing his shoulder even further away from the 195cms Lynch's face and head. That was the attempt to avoid any illegal contact. Look at Lynch's knees bending bringing him lower while being dragged down by Georgio. No Georgio tackle no injury. It appears Lynch is bumped by Viney and canons back into Georgiou's head. No player can sum that up in a millisecond.

Common sense would suggest then he is clear but common sense doesn't seem to apply to things AFL.

He barrelled in from 20 metres away and smashed Lynch's face into Georgiou's head. In the end, that's all that matters.

I HATE it, but they'll see it as completely unnecessary contact and give him a holiday.

I reckon the opposition teams have been signing a petition to get the AFL to ask Jack to be gentler on them...

Bit like when he was told to go easy in school footy...

The AFL may as well now declare that Footy is to become a non-contact sport. Of course the injury is bad luck, but there was no intent, or, in my view, negligence. There has to be some quarter given for the speed of the game and a player's natural instinct to protect himself, lest he be severely hurt himself. At no stage did JV lay a crude tackle or bump, but the resulting injury occurred due to a chain reaction.

A travesty if he goes for this

Ball was in dispute, hows it different from any collision injury when two player intent on the ball collide?

I thought Viney was standing still at the point of contact.

I thought Viney was standing still at the point of contact.

Interesting - it looked to me like he was pulling up but had a fair bit of speed.

It is just ridiculous, if it were someone like Jordan Lewis who smashes people all the time, we probably wouldn't even be having this discussion.

I think the club should argue that Jack's only other option was to stay open to the impending contact which would have resulted in 2 broken jaws, blood and teeth everywhere and 2 stretches coming onto the ground to take both players off.

The AFL is making a rod for it's own back here if they don't recognise that trying to eradicate the bump won't mean players won't go in hard. It will just means that they will get opened up more.

It's a dumb, slippery slope.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
