Great debut from Salem. Looking forward to a full game next week hopefully.

A complete footballer that thrives on 1%.

I thought Adam Yze had pulled on the boots again. Tough little bugger too.

Ahhh....my mistake, I just remember the lack of reaction in the Carlton game. Sorry for the mix up.

You were half right rjay there was a frustrating, curious and poor reaction to his first goal.

edit:- Pleased to see the team got it right after Salem's goal.

But mostly coin.

And the McDonald's endorsement for Phil. Don't forget the McDonald's.

What rubbish. Those around you clearly have little grasp on the game if that was their thinking. Either that, or they're blinded by frustration...

I generally agree, although Pederson has more than held up his own in the ruck. That might just get him a spot in the 22. The guy I've been consistently disappointed with this season is Tommy Mac. He's just having one shocker after another. He had about three or four brain fades in the one quarter against the Swans. I just wonder if that injury in Round 1 against St Kilda is having a residual impact. I might just be making excuses for him though.

McDonald was good on Buddy, kept him to 1 goal which was from a cheap free kick early. Also had a good 2nd half vs Carlton after Henderson beat him early.

We needed a few positives out of the game and he was definitely one of them. Looks an absolute natural at AFL level. No doubt he should be starting next week.

So much ti like about this

So much balance, great marking action even though he didnt take it, great recovery, great poise

But my fave part was the strength to flick his opponent out of the way on to the ground

then the balance

then the kick

Love this kid. And look at the chest on him!! Some people thought he wasnt physically ready LOL. Hes stronger through the body than any other debutant Ive seen this season

True. Maybe I was a little unfair, although I think his decision making has worsened this season. He'd cut out the brain fades for a while there and now they seem to be increasing again.

Either Salem knows a pressure point that can easily toss opponents without much strength like a Bruce Lee punch, or the player tripped on Salems leg and he just guided him to the ground. Watching that you tube clip it seemed like he tripped on Salem's leg and was guided :P

Trengove will be 3 times the player that scully could dream of being.

If his foot issues were causing his extended form lapse, and the surgery has fixed those issues

then yes he will be better than Scully

lets hope his foot heals well.

because he is a leader thru & thru. maybe not captain, but a leader. & a footy player. all guts.

It is exciting how big Salem looks, considering how small he looked on draft day - standing next to Freeman.

So Salem has put on a lot size - in a limited amount of time. It is well noted his health issue that caused him to drop weight.

But one would think, Salem would put on more size coming into next season.

The consensus on draft day was that Salem would take time. But he'll be ready made to slot in beside Viney next year.

He'll be a sizable young lad with a hard edge - and a second to none skill set. We have the makings of a good core group, Viney, Tyson, Salem.

Let's hope Toumpas can come good.

This is the slight worry. Those are the only three young midfielders that we can put in the bank. Very early to say that about Salem after one game but unless we completely bugger it up, he looks the real deal. Can probably add JKH to the list if he is to be modelled into a midfielder. That's four bankables, along with Jones obviously but he's not as young as he once was.

The rest are currently looking like questions marks, if we're being honest - Toumpas, Trengove, Watts, Michie, Kent, Blease, Tapscott etc etc.

We still need to bring some quality youngsters into this group.

At least 4 of your question marks have played less than 15 - 20 games. Some guys don't just explode on to the scene... Some take time. We are relying on kids to be great straight off the bat... It's not fair on them at all.

Spot on, P. What we've gotta hope also is that Roos finds a few that we didn't expect. Our biggest concern is that none of our mids seem natural goalkickers. If they can get Blease running both ways, he could be a goer.

A real leader would've dug his heels in and forced a change in culture. He's a pathetic sell-out.

Leader? I didn't say he was a leader....he didn't like the culture, so when the offer came, cya later.

There's also another so-called 'leader' at the present time who is not a culture changer who will leave.

Not a kid in the league that wouldn't have thought long and hard about those $$. He's a B grader and we will be better off without him in the long run.

I'm not disagreeing with any of the replies.....all I'm saying is that's it's a shame he walked into such a slack, toxic culture.

(in response to Hogan's Heroes' photo in post 140.....pressing "quote" didn't seem to work)

Perhaps the thyroid problem Salem had was hyperthyroidism, which can make the victim thin and weak(in severe cases).

With that fixed, perhaps he has been able to develop his body rapidly.(naturally and legally)

Heaven knows, we've seen the effects of dodgy hormone therapy at West Coast and Essendon(? Geelong).

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
