He's (Carlisle) never been an AA.

True he hasn't been All Australian, but he probably should have been last year. When played solely in defence he was one of the best defenders in the competition and literally won games for them in the dieing minutes of games when under pressure. He doesn't rebound as well as Frawley did 3-4 years ago, but he's a better defenders IMO. Frawley used to have a good balance of defending and rebounding to utilize his pace but unfortunately he hasn't used it for a few years now.

If we lose Frawley and can trade in Carlisle on the cheap without effecting our Free Agency compo then we'd be batsh*t mental not to do it.

Still think we need to focus on midfielders first though, as out key position stocks are decent, midfield stocks some of the worst in the league,

Carlisle isn't a free agent. So any trade we do to bring him in, would not affect any compo we might receive should Chip leave.

What would Carlisle's trade value be?

would pick 23 and Steak Knives be enough?

It's on facebook....

All these people talking about nothing....i don't know why people bother posting that made up rubbish.

It was also in the Herald Sun.

Not that it's much better.

Depends on if he gets rubbed out and for how long.

We really can't touch an Essendon player until this plays out or if we know for certain that they have not and are not likely to receive show cause notices.

Yeah that's true, Carlisle aside we have some serious cap room and I hope the club does some serious head hunting, Patrick Dangerfield is probably worth a phone call.

Essendon will be one of the biggest players in trade period and there is a quality player up for grabs. They have no picks in the first 2 rounds this year, they didn't last year either, so they will deal. Still rather Myers..

Say we DON'T lose Chip at the end of the year.... Shaun Higgins as a unrestricted free agent?

Higgins has lots of talent but has produced very little over a long period of time - poor tank and lots of body issues. Doubt he would be worth the cost of acquiring him. Flakey as Pampas pastry I reckon.

Given Clark has retired, let's assume Byrnes also retires and we delist Nicholson, Strauss & Tapscott

Chip leaves and we get Pick 5(ish) as compo

Trade Picks 4 & 5 to Adelaide for Dangerfield, we can possibly throw in Tapscoot also if it helps.

Trade Fitzpatrick to Bulldogs & Evans to Eagles

Eagles trade Ash Smith to Bulldogs

Bulldogs trade Talia & 4th round pick to us

Trade Blease to Richmond for McBean

Sign O'Keefe & Lisle as delisted free agents.

Gives us 4 picks at the draft (including pick to promote Jetta) and then 1 pick in the rookie draft.

Draft a mid with our 1st pick (hopefully Maynard will still be there at pick 23 or whenever our 2nd round pick is), Stretch F/S in 3rd round any luck and then with our last pick in the national draft and 1st pick in the rookie draft find the best young small forward & KPD available.

No, he'd warrant an early-mid first round pick.

If Frawley were to leave and we were given a pick after our first rounder (say pick 5), i believe a fair trade (provided that Carlisle has nothing to worry about ASADA wise) would be pick 5 for Carlisle and Essendon's 2nd round pick (if they can get one).

I reckon there's plenty of truth in this. I don't think they'll let someone like a Carlisle leave for anything less than a first rounder, but then outside of a few players there isn't anyone on their list who really excites me much. Watson is off limits, Goddard and Zaharakis won't be part of the drug scandal and will therefore not be up for trade, Joe Daniher isn't going anywhere etc. Myers doesn't do much for me either and I wouldn't be comfortable giving up a first or second rounder for him which is the what the Bombers will be looking for.

I'm still not convinced we will be able to land a big fish during this off season as I don't think there is much that is legitimately up for grabs.

4 and 5 for Danger is a bit rich. I love him but the idea is that Top 5 talent brings stars and giving away two for one player is the opposite of that.

Too early to say who would be a chance of targeting but Fitzpatrick has little trade value. I can remember at the end of last season when some on here were convincing themselves that Fitz was - or soon will be - a better player than Dawes...

That was never going to happen. He played a few good games but he was never going to make it. We should have cashed him in last year as he won't be worth much now.

I have thought for a while that a player like Carlisle is exactly what we want. We still struggle with toughness and intensity in our backline, and as soon as we come across a forward with any size, our undersized backline struggles. Don't want to pay overs for him, but would love a Carlisle type.

Is there any proof to that?

I'm not a fan of Tom McDonald but he's done the job on Franklin and Jack Riewoldt. Dunn did the job on Schulz. Nick Riewoldt beat an injured Tom McDonald and Frawley but didn't destroy them.

We've got Pav this week then Tom Hawkins next week but after that it's most of the comps big forwards beat and not too much damaged to our so called undersized backline.

If Frawley stays we have Frawley, McDonald, Dunn and Garland to play on a vast array of the oppositions tall and medium forwards. They also complement each other well with defensive skills and presuming Frawley gets his run back and Garland and Dunn start hitting some targets they provide enough run.

If Frawley was to leave then sure I'm all for going after Carlisle. Probably the best way to get him would be to offer pick 5 for Carlisle (value around pick 8-15) and something else (another pick or player worth around pick 25).

4 and 5 for Dangerfield is spot on. He's a top 10 player in the competition.

Assuming we finish somewhere between 15 and 12 and that Frawley leaves we will have 2 picks in the 4-8 range.

Players picked between 4-8:

2008: Hartlett, Hurley, Yarran, Rich, Vickery

2007: Morton, Grant, Myers, Palmer, Henderson

2006: Leuenberger, Boak, Thorp, Selwood, B.Reid

2005: J.Kennedy, Pendlebury, Dowler, Ryder, Oakleigh-Nicholls

2004: Tambling, Franklin, Williams, Lewis, Meesen

2003: Ray, Mclean, Bradley, Tenace, R.Clarke

Of the players listed above there is 1/30 (Pendlebury) that is better than Dangerfield and you can make the argument for 3 others (Selwood, Boak, Franklin).

Of the remaining players there are 16 players I would describe as average (at best) players: Vickery, Morton, Grant, Myers, Leuenberger, Thorp, Dowler, Oakleigh-Nicholls, Tambling, Williams, Meesen, Ray, Mclean, Bradley, Tenace, R.Clarke. **Sure some of them have been injured/ had other issues, but at the end of the day they still haven't produced a big output.

The remaining 10 being: Hartlett, Hurley, Yarran, Rich, Palmer, Henderson, B.Reid, J.Kennedy, Ryder, Lewis.

Based on those numbers, from the 2 picks you'll get a player who won't make it (or will have minimal impact at AFL level) and a good to (potential) star level AFL player.

Would you trade Pendlebury and Vickery for Dangerfield? No.

Would you trade Yarran and Beau Dowler for Dangerfield? Every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Evans came from the Eagles. Doubt they would want him back with their midfield depth.

You sure about that

Posted

Evans came from WA, but not the eagles.

He was great as a bottom-ager but went under the radar in his final year of juniors as he missed most of it with injury.

Looked the goods in his first few games at MFC.

Now I see he's just another bog-ordinary mid. A dime a dozen, but could still play a role.

Has the running capacity.

Really? He's the flakiest of the lot.

I wouldn't burn a top 20 pick on him.

Think Barry Brooks, John Meesen, Matt Leuenberger, Ayce Cordy... even bloody Kreuzer is a disappointment.

You don't take rucks with early picks unless you can't miss.

And he has barely shown flashes.

As a forward, he's far from convincing, but I think ruck will be his position.

KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti
