SMALL MERCIES - POST MATCH DISCUSSION

Purposely missed most of the game. Went to Williamstown for the afternoon. When I got home I watched the last 15 minutes on my iPad. Saw nothing to like. GWS completely owned us at the death. Roos may have taken on the worst club in the comp and if we end up 2nd worst when he leaves then that will be an achievement.

Not a fan of that one, just don't like any of the characters. No redeeming features.

Love it. One of the best written shows of all time. The characterisation, I would describe as 'aspirational realism'. It's about how these characters grow and change as people. They redeem themselves in very subtle and human ways, IMO. It's not for everyone, understandably.

I wish some of our players would have character arcs, instead of continual insipidness. If the MFC was a TV show it would have been cancelled a long time ago. Apologies for the horrible segue-way. :P

As I mentioned earlier, Tyson got 10 clearances (out of the team's 32 for the game), 19 of his 25 possessions were contested, and he had the best disposal efficiency of any of our midfielders.

Tyson v Kelly might be a close comparison over the years to come, but we also got Salem. I don't think you can cry about missing out on Kelly too much.

We have plenty of things to be disappointed and angry about without trying to invent new ones. Barry Prendergast is gone, ok?

The recruiting has been hiss-poor for years & here is just another instance that will come back to haunt us, Kelly wasn't rated No 2 in the draft for nothing & we could have taken him.

That was a complete and utter annihilation.

It was less about Melbourne keeping close, and more about GWS just feeling things out and learning how to progress in the rain.

Bookmark it: they will pass GC by next year.

Melbourne was, again, awful.

At last pennys are dropping around here. We got towelled up physically again by a younger side We ae weak bodied group with very little desire for the contest

If we dont clear at least 15 players we have no hope. What I watched today was disgusting.Where are all the usual apologists on here give them time! Big guys need time ! Just wait until he is injury free. Its a joke

The problem is that there is no one part of our game where we have an advantage over the opposition that we can exploit.

Are we fast? No we are actually exceptionally slow as a team. That's why they brought Kent and Evans in.

Are we a great stoppage team? No, we haven't got a ruckman and we get consistently pummelled in the clearances.

What we should be is a supremely skilled team a la Geelong that moves the ball quickly. Unfortunately we are not. What we end up with is a slow team that turns the ball over.

I havent seen on ounce of the game. I dont have foxtel but heard it on the radio. All i got out of it was Howe was good down back, Jones was well held and Vince had a shocker.

By the way how did Frawley look as a forward?

Vince had 19 touches and was far from our worse. He wasn't great, but he certainly didn't play a shocker.

Frawley looked okay as a forward, but the delivery to him was abysmal.

Maybe we've had it wrong all this time, and WYL is actually a genius visionary.

If the club was ever relocated it would be bad for the game, but the club would learn to be fierce & would flourish. but with new supporters. it would become a footy club again away from here.

And learn to play hard footy.

The absence of The Big Three, not to mention Garland plus Jamar and/or Gawn, and a couple of the workhorses like McKenzie and Viney (OK, he was there, but underdone) is having a much greater impact that what some seem to be giving credit for. The whole structure of the team is to some extent shot to pieces, and we're being pummelled in the ruck and with big men around the ground. But it's this chronic absence of Key Position Players that's really creating the vacuum and more than anything else, that's what's leading to the indecision and hesitancy which is then creating a whole range of issues right throughout the team.

Not saying we have world-beaters in the team, or should be/could be, but until we get some semblance of a functioning team structure on the park, hard to see that we're going to be able to do much better.

On one occassion Byrnes & Frawley were in the square with only the young GWS fullback to beat. Byrnes cost us a goal by calling Frawley to let the kick come to the back. It didn't, & the kid puched the ball away. If Frawley play forward again he has to attack the ball & not listen to the advise of a dud like Byrnes.

Someone give me one reason why I should watch next week? Every time I take three hours out of my precious weekend, that's time with my family or time doing something productive that I'm not getting, and all I get out of it is frustration and disappointment.

I watch footy for entertainment. The last two weeks have left me feeling so immensely bored that all it is becoming is a complete waste of time. I don't even want to watch the good teams play any more. I'm currently supporting this team out of obligation. I'm not sure how much longer I can hang on.

Because the first weekend after the grand final there is something missing. Then you realises it's nice to have a break from it, after Xmas it's the tennis then you know it's coming. It's the most exciting game in the world with a contest at every part of the ground. It's for when Howe takes another specky. It's because we've been crap for so long that when we comeback it will be even sweeter. Roos boarded a sinking ship it will take longer than one pre season.

The only way that would happen would be if we went to NT or Tassie both of which are most unlikely.

Otherwise it is a merger and the result is the Gold Coast Demons or Melbourne Kangaroos, or Mellbourne Bulldogs and we cease to exist. No! The only option to survive as a club is to learn to play football again.

I am a red and blue demon till the day I die. If the Melbourne Demons are to be no longer I am gone from AFL.

Midfielders need to kick goals in the modern game, something I haven't seen from Tyson yet.

I reckon a merger with the Saints or Doggies would be very much on the cards, solves two problems for the AFL in one, and the other of the saints or Dogs that we don't Merge with might move to Tassie

Judd doesn't really either. I'm just happy for Tyson to be getting his hands on the ball so often. Once he has some more support and spread from the midfield, I'll expect goals from him.

Like others, I'm getting tired and bored of the constant turnovers, the wayward kicks, the handballs to players standing still.

It's the same nonsense, week in, week out.

What's more astonishing is that some players are not - to borrow a phrase Daniel Cross used in the week - hellbent on winning.

Absolute amateur hour.

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
