  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Liked Garry Lyon as reasonably good footballer, just wish he would now not offer comments relating to demon matters and perhaps save his best work for the comedy segments which footy show faithful seem to enjoy. Interested in what others think?

What is he saying now? Don't watch the FS. I guess in the course of his work he has to say something every now and then. Just hope he does not give any advice.

Geez picket, Lyon was rather better than "reasonably good". He was bloody good!

The only thing I hold against Lyon is his role in the selection of coaches.

Otherwise, a great servant of the club.

It's been interesting to watch his journey from hero to zero in the eyes of many MFC people since his retirement.

Much of that can be attributed to his starring role in failed coaching appointments, but I don't see why it should diminish his considerable feats as a player.

Was a once in a generation player but has turned into a complete media tosspot.

Would rather not have him involved with the club except for the odd dinner.

His admin input has been worse than useless.

I'd love to see him in at the club in a roll similar to Russel Robertson. Nothing to do with running the club but be an official face of the club, being an MC for official events, appearances and functions. He is a media performer now so why not use that talent to promote the club as a club great

Hasn't been helped by his penchant for turtle neck sweaters.

Think he's earned the right to say whatever is reasonable. Don't think he should have got involved in coaching decisions, but I don't mind him having a view. Not like he's at risk of a permanent ban from any supporter forums for speaking his mind in the media!

Why is Lyon a scapegoat for the train wrecks of the past???

Club is to blame for not having the right people in place to make long term decisions..... Lyon was called upon as a saviour & a band aid approach ..... Expecting anyone to make decisions from a distance is ridiculous.

This band aid approach has been the failure of the MFC for the last 49 yrs!

Present Mgt not included

that just shows how little faith our past administrators had, in making footy Dept' appointments.

I don't mind Gaz but I was disappointed in his role as head of football.
I know he explodes in a volcano of self righteous anger when questioned on this but he really did protect his mates in the fiasco of 2011. Schwab got his job back and Cuddles got moved sideways. Dean Bailey got humiliated (see his press conference to see what I mean).
As a player, he was (as was said earlier) a once in a generation player for us. He probably had the most influence as an on field leader for us (Neita was underrated in this area for us post 2001 and I rate him up with Gaz). It would have been interesting to see if he had played as a forward for his whole career. If you watch his final versus Footscray in 1994 or, on a more personal note, his round 17 game against North in 1995, you can see what we missed out on for the first six years of his career.
My final verdict is he was a shocker as a club politician/part time administrator but this is counterbalanced by his contribution as a player.

Lyon has not been scapegoated at all.

It was wrong for Lyon to be called upon as "a saviour" by the powers that were and he adopted a slipshod band aid approach to his key responsibilities.

A fantastic player for MFC who best work these days is on the Footy Show.

If true, it's good he and his kids attend the games.

Can anyone tell me what he said?

Garry is usually pretty conservative in his media. If he was angry last night he wasn't the only one. Dodgy back, broken leg and torn hammy he still would've been our most dangerous forward last night.

I'd still like to see him back at the club.

He can take a leaf out of Billy Brownless' book. Billy loves his Cats.

When melbourne were rock bottom last year. I was listening to triple m and JB or Barret, referred to melbourne as his demons.. And he replied with "they're not my dees" and that was enough for me.

Lyon was a favourite as a kid, but after him only "doing favours" for jim stynes and repeated failed opinions on coaches and the above comment was enough for me. You watch him jump back on and claim the dees as his own as soon as it turns around..

He can stick to hosting the footy show and getting trumpeted by spud (which i find hilarious)

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
