I gotta disagree. The direct kick to Cross was the correct play imo. It was not difficult and unless he totally miskicked it, it would have been the better, less risky play. From memory, Watts was under some pressure getting the ball back to Blease. The consistent problem kicks were more the ones 90 degrees to that one.

The only player who I think would have got a small cross next to their name from Friday was M. Jones. Missed more than any others and probably didn't nail too many pressure possessions. Still a work in progress.

Nicho on the other hand missed very few (I noticed one that wasn't a massive clanger, but can't recall too many others) and also had a few very nice, long kicks that got us through the congestion and out into space.

Matt Jones did make a few 'brain fade' type kicking errors. I thought Nicho was smart about his kicking and seemed to take that extra bit of time, and in one instance that his kick was a bit off target he still kicked it to our players advantage.

Hopefully Nicho and Bail are maturing as players and take that extra moment to make sure their kick either hits target or are to our advantage. Similar to Nathan Jones a few years ago. If they can do this I think they can regularly feature in our best 22.

Georgiou seems a no- nonsense down to earth hard working defender who, to date, has far exceeded expectations.

Good luck to him. I like his attitude.

Actually I was intrigued by Georgiou so I had a chat to him at Family Day

His attitude comes from being a highly educated guy who was on the fast track to success as an engineer with an international company, who also played a bit of footy

He knows this is just footy and if it doesn't work, he can go back to being an engineer without a problem, playing with that mental freedom, hence why he looks so relaxed on the field.

I assume he is now a full time footballer, if the pay is as low as I think you would wonder why someone would take time out from being an engineer to be a rookie at the second worst club in the competition.

I suspect he has given himself a year or two to make it and then he will not wonder "if only" when he is older.

Any way an interesting story, I hope he continues on the trend he has shown the last few weeks.

Life is way too short.

He would have another 40 years to pursue an engineering career. Why not have a shot at a professional sporting career first, it will be over in the blink of a eye.

Should put this in the thread about Georgiou, he was actually encouraged by senior management at Lend Lease (who he worked for) to give it a crack, their attitude as well is engineering job will always be there, chance of being an AFL footballer is only given to a few

But I presume you'd get VFL match payments that would be pretty decent and if he does get AFL match payments I think even for rookies it's over 2,000 a game. Play 10 games of AFL and the wage is looking healthier. Get promoted from the rookie list and all of a sudden he's looking at a 6 figure wage and probably more than what he was making previously. Become a semi regular on a nice contract and he's making way more than in years as an engineer. He's only just turned 24 so really he can take a chance and has lost nothing if it doesn't work out. It's more the guys who are considered being rookied at 27 or older and might have a family, mortgage and their career is probably transitioning from early days at the bottom of the ladder to somewhere up a few rungs who have more to lose and therefore have a tough choice to make.

I have a good friend who was on the bombers rookie list and those figures of $40k plus a a match payment were pretty much spot on. Unfortunately for him he never got a senior game so he battled along for his one year in Melb living a quiet lifestyle

He then got his backside kicked by the afl for selling his grand final tickets as he needed the cash... Even though the cash was really funding there o/s footy trip. Didn't help his chances of getting on another list

Rookie list these days is about 54k after the CBO last year. Add on to this that match payments for a rookie are 3,500-4,000 per game and rookies are the only ones who receive match payments for preseason games, Alex's contract worth this year is already around 65k. Play 10 games this year and he's earnt over 100,000.

I'm going to bag Georgiou at some stage over his lack of height and kicking. I can see it coming already. But he's one I don't think I"ll bag about lack of effort or commitment. Without having a go at Saty I don't judge players attitude by the interpretation of comments made in quick conversations with him.
