Quote by Lyon from today's Age:

"What we think we can provide Col with is an opportunity with a really strong senior core and leadership around him, some really strong standards to be met, a strong game plan where he won't be guessing what's expected of him, and an environment to allow him to be the very best can be.''I love hard workers who chase and pressure, but with [Hayden] Ballantyne and [Michael] Walters we get goalscoring power as well. So if we can train him up in that aspect, we're going to be a better team."

Read more: Fremantle coach Ross Lyon returns hungrier and 'keen for success'

Of course, the issue is whether Col is motivated enough to meet these requirements?

The inference being that Col could not have gotten those things at Melbourne under Roos?

The inference being that Col could not have gotten those things at Melbourne under Roos?

I would have thought the inference was that he was a weak lazy underperformer who needs others to provide the impetus to even provide a reasonable performance on the paddock.

The inference would in that instance be accurate

Are you telling me today's players are meant to work hard and chase and apply pressure? Ah! That's where we went wrong with Col, no one asked him to do that in the 10 years he was here. Stupid us.

I love Gary Ablett type midfielders, if we can train our midfielders to play like him, I think we'll be a better team.

Oh dear, Poor Colin has another interupted pre-season.

He'll be a gun one day, mark my words. If he could only get a full pre-season.........

Let it go simpleton !

Because people make emotional attachments to players they think the club should draft, even when they are not drafted.

No need to be such a condescending [censored] about it. You're worse than Ben Hur these days.

I'm 'emotionally attached' to the guy after seeing him in tears when he was told he was leaving us for a spot on the full list at Freo. I felt for the big guy and have wished him well since.

On SEN this arvo Col came up in discussions as he has not flown over for tonight's game having sustained a knock to the head last weekend.

The Perth correspondent was of the opinion that Col is a long way off the pace at the moment and nowhere near the best 22 and that he is a long way short of their expectation. Based on the statement quoted earlier my guess is that Freo and Lyon will take a long approach and make Col earn his spot and embrace the local culture. This may mean he is in the WAFL for a while and we may not see him till mid season. I also guess that it much harder being a little fish in a big pond than it is to be the big fish in a little pond. Not sure if this will end well for Colin as I really thought the change in environment would see him flourish but he appears to be struggling to lift.

Why don't you refrain from personal abuse - your comment tells me all I need to know about your intelligence.

You have posted that same post 35 times let it go he's gone, who posts the same thing over and over tells me all I need to know about your intelligence .

The truth is patronising?

We all do it. I did it with Wines when he was being touted as a pick, I can recall seeing Rockliff train with us and then - off to Brisbane.

And 'worse than BH' - come on, now - we would both be offended at that.

Not a good start for Sylvia in what looked likely to be a good move for him, couldn't get a kick against the Eagles, now concussed.

Behind the 8 ball before the season starts and reminiscent of many seasons with us.

No one is worse than Ben Hur. I think he finally realised this as he seems to have departed dl for good. Can't say I miss him.

Its as it should be.

In his own hands, just as it was with us.

Good luck to him but I'm happy to have Vince, Michie, Tyson on board as an alternative.

Hated seeing Riv , Maloney , Miller on the ground before Davey's farewell game. Heart and soul players who could play a role and had proven so time and time again. Col played with injury alot and battled hard . Id thank him for what he did. the kid did and can play, all of these guys had bad luck with coaching changes/inept coaching and instability at club land. They had some good times also. Go Dees.

I almost feel sorry for him. Col was a high pick in a very ordinary draft, and would have been in the high teens in quite a few other drafts. Yes, he had limitations and seemed to zone out if it wasn't his day, but at the same time the club failed him and all the rest of the players for years. I understand him wanting a fresh start, but at the same time moving to a club on the go, and with a well drilled team, 4000 kms from all that matters isn't going to end well if he doesn't get the breaks go his way.

I'm not sad he left. It was a good thing for us IMO. And I tend to think he was given a gentle nudge, but I get the feeling he has ridden off into obscurity among people that really don't care about him other than what he gives on the field, and I'm going to take a stab in the dark and say that it won't be much other than a cameo.

He's always welcome back in a red and blue tie in my eyes, even if I wished he'd given us more than a highlights reel.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
