WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BERNIE VINCE

Not unreasonable.

The other thing for Adelaide to consider is they don't have any top draft picks and Vince is a free agent next year. A decent draft pick in hand is worth gold for them this year and is probably better than the compensation pick they'll get if he leaves next year.

If the development of Sloane, Dangerfield, Kerridge, Grigg and Crouch go as expected and a few others then Adelaide will probably be tossing up between Van Berlo (capt), Scott Thompson (signed a new deal) and Vince for game time. Might be best for them to trade him now.

Agree so surely we can play with the upper hand as they need draft picks big time and they have ample mids and perhaps we have a key forward they might be interested in to get a deal done?

I was either going to put Crouch or Sloane, but thought putting Crouch was a bit too cheeky.

Agree. Adelaide may be desperate to get some picks and therefore some of their older midfielders may be available for a trade but not Crouch, this guy is a superstar in the making I am sure they can see that. I have seen him play in what 2 or 3 games and been gob smacked.

why can't we snaffle one of these guys in an early pick? If you Manage to do that once or twice and add a bit of luck and suddenly you are in the premiership window. A la the Hawks in 2001 pick up Hodge and Mitchell then 2004 you go back and pick up Buddy, Roughy and Lewis. Then add on Cyril and Sewell and you have the recipe for a flag. Oh hold on we can then have a long debate about player development versus pure talent picked in the draft.

Bernie Vince is a proven midfield performer

Jarryd Lyons who is an inside mid might be part of the packadge

Not really sure what we would give up for that though

Knowing those south australians they would be licking their lips at the possibility of getting anyone called AISH

There is no way they would get pick 2 for those two. They would have to throw in a hell of a lot more to get that!

Compo pick and 3rd round pick for Lyons and Vince would be fantastic. Adds immediate depth to midfield stocks, and creates competition for space. Add in another ready made with our 2nd pick, Shield and Bugg for Pick 2, and cross as a DFA, and our mids are suddenly almost strong

There's no way Vince is worth more than our pick 20, his manager is kidding himself

http://www.perthnow.com.au/sport/afl/adelaide-midfielder-bernie-vince-faces-several-options-ahead-of-possible-trade/story-fnahsgl5-1226739226771

I'd walk away from it if the price gets any higher, not worth it for someone you can

nab next year for free

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet....just noticed that Vince has the same manager as Polec

Something's brewing

A bit like when Shaw's manager claimed Carlton were interested in him. Quickly denied by Carlton.

The article lays out the cases pretty clearly. Can't see him going anywhere else but us, if that's what he/we want.

Of course the manager will be well over estimating his value, that's how it works. Pick 20 for Vince is over the top IMO and I don't think we'll do it.

In terms of the player's salary that's true, but what business is it of the player manager's what happens in the trade? It's got nothing to do with him at all, that's a deal between the two clubs. At best, commenting on what pick his player is worth adds nothing at all, and at worst it could hinder the trade.

A bit strange indeed.

I acutally don't think pick 20 is overs for Vince, considering our circumstances and dire need of a midfielder.

We got Dawes for pick 20 and he only delivered us 11 games with only 5 or 6 being satisfactory. You'd like to think Vince could surpass that next year, assuming injury free.

A proven midfielder is more valuable than a second round draft pick IMO.

If the papers are true and we have offered him a 4 year deal he would be mad not to take it. AFL players make great money and to extend your life as an AFL footballer for 2 extra years would get him 700K-800K. If he stays in Adelaide gets 2 years then is forced out at 30 you will be lucky if someone else gives you a chance. If I was Vince and the 4 year deal was on the table I would jump on board.

We might get 2 good years and two end of contact years out of Vince.

Regardless of what Dawes have us this year he still has 6 years left in his prime.

Comparing outputs in the first years of contacts isn't a great comparison.

For a pick 20 we really need someone who could can play good footy for 5 or 6 years not 2 or 3.

Agree and it shouldn't simply be offloaded to Adelaide to assist them in their Polac aspirations. For them its out Vince in Polec and the good old demons will make it happen for us. ( How about we make a greater effort to get Polac for starters?)

We want Sloan and everyone on here tells me its out of the question, yet many also cant wait to get rid of a twenties pick to grab a C grader who may struggle to get a game at his own club. Adelaide must be quietly giggling their heads off.

We already have enough C graders thanks and I reckon we should ask Adelaide to do a little better or live on the outer for a while. If they can get what they want elsewhere fine, but I don't see why we should be the soft targets.

You can never have enough C graders, ask Mark Neeld.

I agree - especially when you could be passing on quality like Dumont, Jones & Dunstan

These guys will go alright in their first year, and potentially give you 10 years of service

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
