My Heart Beats True - 2014 Membership Campaign Launched

What a terrible ad. No mentions of the 1950's at all. You can't run an MFC membership campaign focusing on the on field product. Loads of historical minutae, that's the way to go!

I'd say the so-called ad is still in pre-production phase and there will be more meat on the bones after the new year. Understandably, the club wanted to get as much mileage out of the Roos announcement, as soon as possible. More to come I reckon.

The entire family (three generations) paid up as of today.

It was always going to happen anyway but the email I received today prompted me to attention.

If we can show the numbers are coming back, who knows? The AFL might even give us one of those prime game time fixtures like a Friday night or anything but lunchtime on Mother's Day.

I have not seen any miracles in my lifetime to this point WJ.

Not expecting any in 2014

Pretty good of the club to put a freeze on increasing the membership prices this year as well as a thank you for the rubbish the members have had to put up with over the last 5-7 years. Good on them. Gonna ring up and find out if I'm still on the waiting list for a Legend's membership.

12000 + is probably all the nutters from Demonland and sundry "died in the wools".

I would think the majority of that figure are like me who's membership just rolls over at the end of each year.

IMO the acid test will be early in 2014

That is when the "not commited's" have to make a decision.

However as others have said a good move to start now with Roos being announced as the new coach

I recall that Collingwood chose to use 'Side by side' as a membership slogan because the phrase polled well with members*. I wonder whether we did any research when coming up with this slogan? I like it a lot.

(Of course, 'side by side' is what they are familiar with as that's how the courts place multiple defendants in the dock)

I just watched Peter Jackson's speech from the B & F. It was inspiring.

Anyone who has not seen it do it now.

I actually teared up a little with pride.

Welcome back Junior.

Signed and sealed.

I agree that, exciting as he is, the club needs to be wary in using a kid yet to play a single AFL game as a promotional tool.

Trengove also isn't going to inspire many to sign up, captain or not. Hurts to say, but his next season would want to be a hell of alot better than the last two, otherwise questions need to be asked about the value of keeping him. A "bona fide AFL midfield" as Roos calls it can't carry Trengove in his current state.

Agree on the Hogan thing, think Col Garland could have taken his spot easy enough. In saying that, so far Roosy and Hogan are the only two things different about next season to the mess that was served up this year. Makes sense and I won't mind as long as they don't have one of those ridiculous Burgatron emotive pieces before they roll him out.

It's good to see 12,178 members signed up already for 2014. That means we need fewer than 28,000 to reach our long sought after 40,000 target. And we have 9 months to do it in.

Most of the membership will be MCC members like me who have added MFC membership to their packages. However, it's still a very good start. I seem to recall that we have achieved 17-18,000 members by December in previous years, so hopefully we are seeing the Roos factor at work. Anyone got any past membership stats for this early please?

Now, if only the MFC could learn to punctuate in their home page membership update.

Much to the disappointment of my wife, I signed up my 2.5 yr old daughter straight after Roos was appointed.

I figure, if Roos can put his neck on the line then so can I....

Go Dees!!!

Sensible move to me.

There are evil people out there that may try to convert her to Collingwood.

As a good Dad you need to get in first and protect her future.

You should also get a few spare membership application for the MFC for when she gets older and starts to bring boys home.

My daughter and 2 sons have been members for about 4 years. It has been a real battle to keep the interest going. When the renewals came this week, my daughter smiled and said "can't wait to get my membership and see what Roos does". Even if the improvement is a long time coming, I will thanks Mr Roos for giving my kids hope.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
