Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>

I reckon that is right. EFC is keen to throw as much muck in the air as it can so that any negative findings against it will be discounted as unfair and biased by a segment of the public who know even less than these slack journos. Then EFC can play the victim for the next decade and use that to get 'special assistance' without a backlash from supporters of other clubs.

If I was running EFC I'd probably do the same (though I would have put my hands up about a year ago instead.)

... or that they're dealing with the same set of legal rules or evidentiary requirements ... and probably this is because much of the media is ignorant of the rules that apply in anti doping matters and they actually relay information told to them by people with vested interests which may not necessarily be correct.

Quite right WJ. Masters, along with Caro and Patrick Smith seem to be the only journos in Melbourne with any idea about this. The rest are an embarrassment.

As I said in an earlier post. Hird and ESSENDON are conducting an orchestrated PR campaign I'm Melbourne to get this thing thrown out. It is no different from his spurious court cases. It is all about he and his wife's sociopathic personalities in as much as he will never take responsibility and never admit he is wrong, even though the regime orchestrated and approved by him has put the long term health of 34 men at risk - men who should be at their peak physical fitness and the prime of their lives.

There is no clearer case of gross irresponsibility and negligence. I have the utmost confidence that this game playing by the Hirds will ultimately make no difference. The fact that he and Tania think it does just confirms their paranoid delusions. He should never be allowed near sporting clubs again - and he won't be.

Doesnt Roys wife work for asada?

I know she is a sports lawyer and ex ABC sports broadcaster, but haven't heard of her connection to ASADA, but she may well have connections which have added weight and credibility to what he writes. He seems to have serious inside knowledge as to what is going on (which very much coincides with what my contacts tell me), in stark contrast to most of the nonsense which has been written about this in the Melbourne press over the last week.

Just waiting for the inevitable

"Shock and disbelief as ASADA hands out heavy penalties to all concerned with the Essendon Supplements Scandal !!"

"Players reeling from 2 year bans. Stellar careers at end. "

"Hird handed lifetime ban will appeal to the Intergalactic Court of Justice as claims the penalty is just out of this world"

"Little declares : Just didnt see this coming as we're innocent !!"

Is the Masters article the first time we have seen "a source inside ASADA" make comment? They are either playing the Hird PR game now or someone is getting fired by McDevitt.

it was probably mcdevitt himself

its the sort of thing id leak if i was in charge

And what happens if it goes the other way? Do you have any headlines? ASADA listened but is was not HIRD. I have a feeling the evidence just isn't there and a lot of people will be in "disbelief" and crying foul.

If the players get off and I am not declaring they will. The Essendon Football Club is still going to be a loser from potential Work cover claims to Sponsorship battles.

Re-read my ealier post. Eminant lawyers with expertice and no personal interest say the case is srtong. The media say the case is hanging by a thread and we believe the media?????? Have a look at the comentary surrounding the first federal court case. ASADA were up the creek without a paddle if you listened to the media then whack the judge gives a comprehensive kick up the butt as a judge can do. The media are headline whores and should be treated in that context.

Redleg if charter and alvi are asked under oath if what they said to asada in their interviews is true and they answer it is, is this the equivalent of an affidavit?

Basically yes. One is written and one is oral.

I'm more concerned about the facts than the media but I will say Fairfax has jumped from hanging Hird to a case Hanging by a thread...

Reading between the lines and I am happy to admit that I am like the posters that watch a TAC cup player's highlights and then make a decision about where they should be drafted without understanding the full picture. ASADA look desperate to me. They were still offering lighter sentences to all involved for an early plea after having mud slung at them by Essendon and the Hird's in the Court. The players had already had over a year to come in with an early plea. How could an early guilty plea be kept on the table all things considered unless ASADA had nothing? Again without information it just seems odd to me.

Then we hear that after the Show Cause Notices have already been sent that ASADA don't have any sworn evidence from Charter or Alavi. It may not be necessary for ASADA's case and we wont know that until it all plays out but surely if ASADA thought it important enough to request subpoenas they should have done it before issuing the Show Cause notices.

I'm not trying to absolve Essendon the whole thing stinks.

is there then scope for them to be supeoned to appear at asada's supreme court hearing (which would possibly then mean there is no need to compel them to testify at the afl tribunal)? Edited by binman

Don't get too excited Bub. it is not in ASADA's place to hand out penalties. The AFL Tribunal decides guilt and then hands out the appropriate sanctions to those parties who are guilty of any offences.

ASADA/WADA can appeal to CAS but it can't penalise.

Did I hear someone say that Dank was going to give evidence for the defence in the case against the 34 players at the Tribunal?

I'd like to see that and I'd like to be on the team doing the cross examining.

Please ...

He won't show. He would be crazy if he did. Then again.....

All the info today I have heard today said it was a media beat up from a small comment he made to someone.

No substance to it seems to be the strong flavour today WJ

LOL Danky has done a runner

Over the past few days, ASADA has been trying to pin down Dank, the Victorian Supreme Court heard yesterday. It has contacted his lawyers, but discovered they no longer act for him. It has been to his “last known address’’ to no avail.

Counsel for ASADA Dan Star told Justice Clyde Croft that “extensive, serious and continuing effort’’ had been made to contact the “support person’’, as Dank is referred to in court documents, and formally notify him of its plan to apply for a court-issued subpoena to secure company documents from him.

    GOLDIE'S METTLE by Meggs

On a perfect night for football at the home of the Redlegs, Norwood Oval, it was the visiting underdogs Melbourne who led all night and hung on to prevail in a 2-point nail-biter. In the previous round St Kilda had made it a tough physical game to help restrict Adelaide from scoring and so Mick Stinear set a similar strategy for his team. To win it would require every player to do their bit on the field plus a little bit of luck.  Fifty game milestoner Sinead Goldrick epitomised

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play
