Hi all, this is my first post :) Just like to say that I'm happy we have Cross as he will be a good leader to the younger guys.

Welcome RF!

All the abuse at barrett has been removed...interestingly brad miller took that tweet down

We can always add more throughout the year if we get it right.

As I said, I don't think he has major qualifications, but considerable experience. Sure, he's done a lot of work, I didn't dispute that. But I was referring to the previous poster's suggestion that Cross would come to us so as to learn under Misson, and when he finishes his studies may soon have higher qualifications.

So does Stephen Danks - he is about to complete his PHd. Doesn't make him more effective.

I am a huge supporter of very high level education qualifications ( I could hardly be anything else), but the knowledge has to be applied with common sense. Danks is a great example of not doing that.

Cross on the other hand is someone who has a natural sense of what works and incredible discipline to be successful - a great role model for our young team. He also is smart enough to have worked out that theoretical knowledge adds considerably to your practical experience.

Dave Misson? - not sure what letters he has after his name, but he has rolled-gold successful experience, and in this game that is about as good as it gets.

So Damian...

Out: Sellar, Couch, Davey, Rodan, Sylvia, Davis, Gilles, Tynan, MacDonald.

In: Tyson, Michie, Hogan, Vince, Cross, Pick 9 (Freeman?)

Yep, scattergun. What a terrible offseason this has been so far.

Posted (edited)

I don't agree that its a scattergun approach at all, but performing genuinely better on the field is the best form of rebuttal

I would bet my left nut that if Cross didn't come to us DB aka [censored] of the Year would say "no one wants to go to the Dees, they are in disarray".

If I saw him on the road I wouldn't swerve to miss the little grub.

Barrett is making the same mistake so many modern journos make. As soon as he gets some TV exposure he begins to not only report and "journal", but offers his opinion as if people think it is worth something.

And even though Neeld's trade approach last year was a failure - it also was NOT scattergun. It was a specific plan to bring really good training examples in and among our very young list. The plan simply didn't work.

Scattergun implies no plan. Does Barrett seriously think that Roos and the footy dept. people are trading players in without clear objectives? We are yet to see if the plan works but it is clear what they went after, and they got exactly what they wanted.

How do you do that?

I know nothing about photoshop and the like - quite obviously - but that looks quite legit.

Prime did it looks really good

Considering the players who were available this off season, and by available I mean players that clubs would be open minded to trading if contracted, Melbourne could not have trades any better this trade period.

Damien Barrett is one slip up from being outed as the no idea, bottom feeder that he is. I just hope that's soon!

Welcome, Crossy! A great addition to the club one year deal with conditions is smart management.

The demons midfield is no walk-up start any more. Have to earn your place with the 'flying V' (Viv, Vince and Viney), Michie, Jones, Cross and friends.

What is Barrett thinking? Anyway, watch him gush about how he know how he knew how we were going to be great as we improve. Then it will be time to roll out a retweet. Twits on twitter, who'd a thunk?

Do I? (need to take the rose colored glasses off).

We will see who is right and I promise to remind you at season's end. Deal?

I agree that we could have a better year than them. But when we beat them, it will be because our forwards and defence will be much better than theirs. Our midfield will be way off theirs. Gawn to be better than Minson? Please.

If Gawn is better than Minson I will agree to buy you a carton of beer. (injuires aside)

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
