The Trade/Draft Rumour Mill

some nice players should be squeezed out of Sydney now

Luke Parker anyone?

How about Mitch Morton, a retired Jude Bolton with no desire to coach, and a crippled Marty Mattner?

That, coupled with the departures of Mumford and White will ensure the Swans have plenty of cap space without squeezing required players.

Wow

That truly is impressive by the Swans if that happens......

Yeah, but it's a hell of a lot easier when you have close to an extra $ million in your salary cap.

GWS is going to be the AFL's biggest basket case, players don't wont to go there and players want to leave. The Gold Coast at least can sell G Ablett aand the lifestyle.

Remind me again of all of their gun players who are returning to Vic after having just finished their first contracts?

Rumours are one thing... riding on the back of others' rumours and claiming credit is another.

you got it in one, I can't believe others don't see through it. It's like reading the front page of the Beano!

Tell me who are their gun players, J cameron, is one and the others are potential that will be picked off as they develop

Was really hoping we would chase Dylan Shiel, but he,like most of his contemporaries has signed a new contract through the year. He'll, even Adams may stay now Buddy isn't going. I've been amazed at their ability to hang on to so many kids who are so obviously talented.

By not getting burdened with a massive contract for Buddy does them a favour IMO, they will have Patten, Boyd and Cameron being fed by fantastic mids (who wouldn't take Toby Green). They will have the ability to contract who they want, front loading many.

Everyone said clubs would raid GWS after two years. How's that been going?

So you think they will definitely take Boyd? If so our number 2 becomes gold to other clubs

What? Surely you mean that the other way around right?! If Boyd was guaranteed to be available at pick 2 THEN it would be gold.

Not sure. If Boyd off the table and clubs want to get the best pick we have it! Not all clubs are after a Tom Boyd

its likely GWS may take Fyfe for P1.

and I reckon then they'll start to trade for some other mature bodied players.

this could be the biggest trade period ever. hold on to your hat, we have competition for the mature players we want ourselves.

I wonder if there will be quite a few kids left over from the draft, with clubs taking many mature players. the preseason/rookie drafts may be interesting this year.

It certainly will be interesting - no doubt! Nearly as exciting as awaiting the news of our new coach last month - and nearly as drawn out!

If he goes to Sydney, GWS would surely take Boyd with #1.

This devalues our #2 doesn't it? Since the previous speculation was if they got Buddy, they may skip Boyd at #1?

Not sure I agree. If GWS take Boyd (which I think they will do), this means that our pick 2 becomes the most valuable tradable pick in the draft for all other clubs. That should be worth quite a lot in a draft which thins out quite quickly after pick 30 apparently.

Incidentally, there is speculation that GWS will pay serious attention to any trade for an experienced ruckman with 3-4 years left in him. Surely we could package something up involving Jamar to get one or two of their gun mids? Could be good value for us.

Don't know if Jamar has that much left in the tank, but we can only hope!

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
